When this happens...and Bernie Goodfellow is a life saver

The yobs of the '50s are all quite wrinkly now, I suspect. -
[quote name='gjones' timestamp='1500847037' post='3340634']... My opinion is, that if you have an amateur attitude to whether or not you get paid for your music, you'll also have an amateur attitude to the music. [/quote] ... and my opinion is that there is no correlation; one's attitude to music has nothing to do with being paid, for very many folks, including very many fine musicians. I'd cite, as only one of many examples, the excellent amateur orchestras that thrive all around the planet, including the UK. There are others (folk bands, Morris men, ethnic groups everywhere; even many rock groups...)...

[quote name='scalpy' timestamp='1500817341' post='3340332'] [media]http://youtu.be/Wpp7oxrBUq0[/media] Bonkers, but a fantastic watch. [/quote] As brilliantly illustrated in the video above ^^, a great deal of the expressivity comes from the interplay between the instruments and the song, the story, the lyrics. Even in classical 'orchestral' music, there is an underlying story, with its ultimate expression in the form of opera. The music, in the majority of modern music, is a support for the text, with much meaning stripped away without that all-important part of the ensemble. Try thinking the words, and their meaning and feel, while playing, not just the notes of your instrument. Sing along, if you can; that, in itself, is good practice. Just my tuppence-worth.

Good afternoon, Marc, and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Nice bass; good call. Lessons, even a couple, from a genuine bass teacher, are worth every penny. None near you ..? Maybe have a look in the BC [url="http://basschat.co.uk/forum/26-tutors-available/"]Tutors Available ...[/url] section..?

Not much scope for 'showrooming' in my corner of the planet, and I can do a set-up as well as most shops, at least. No problem with buying unseen on t'web, either new or s/h; I trust my own judgement and accept the consequences. I've yet to be disappointed. I did, once (no, come to think of it; twice..!) buy from a shop; both were 'impulse' buys, in that the guitars in question were screaming at me 'Buy me..! Buy me..!' and I didn't want to leave 'em like that. My drums, too, came from a shop, but I didn't get to try 'em until I got home, so... To each his/her own, of course.

I'll 'Report' this, and see what explanation comes up. A bit of patience, please..? [Terminator] 'I'll be back...' [/Terminator]

[quote name='chris_b' timestamp='1500715019' post='3339724']... I'd say that fun, enjoyment and satisfaction are very different things and probably shouldn't be mixed up when you're playing in a band. [/quote] ... and I would respectfully say 'Tosh..!' to this rather Puritanical attitude. To me, 'fun, enjoyment and satisfaction ' are the very staff of life itself, to be sought for in every minute of one's existence (provided it's not at other's expense...). S'a funny ol' world. -

True, my ears are 'shot' (a technical term...), but I can't hear any pitch correction in that clip. True, there's a 'framptonesque' voice box, but that's not the same as vocoding, I'd say, and is certainly not 'cheating'. All in all, the sessions I've listened to seem to be exemplary for the clarity of the take, especially as a 'live', all together one-shot, and special mention must go to the drummers, each able to put to rest the myth that drums have to be [i]loud[/i]. Not many of the artists are wearing ear protection, it seems; the one or two I've seen are rather using iem's. Good Stuff all round, and a Good Find; thanks for posting 'em.

It'll work just about as fine as normal FOH, where the cabs are facing the audience, and the monitoring directed back to the musicians. There are no more (nor less...) counter-indications than if you were playing 'amp-less' through DI, straight into a traditional PA. Ideally, one should adjust the front-facing ('FOH'...) cab to a level which may be different from the 'monitor' cab facing you, but that's all I can think of, and would not be catastrophic if you're sensible, I'd say. Sounds good to me as a workable method.

[quote name='stingrayPete1977' timestamp='1500651770' post='3339417'] The odd weekend maybe but five our six nights a week for less than minimum wage as a full time job? [quote name='doonaboon' timestamp='1500644298' post='3339344'] never a truer word said! there's a clue in the name 'theory' I think ;-) [/quote] Indeed... [quote]Theory... Earlier in this sense was theorical (n.), late 15c. Sense of "principles or methods of a science or art" (rather than its practice) is first recorded 1610's (as in music theory, which is the science of musical composition, apart from practice or performance). Sense of "an intelligible explanation based on observation and reasoning" is from 1630's.[/quote]

[quote name='stingrayPete1977' timestamp='1500632401' post='3339215']...they must be daft! [/quote] ...or enthusiastic..? [quote name='PaulWarning' timestamp='1500623804' post='3339115']...almost like well it doesn't follow the rules so we'll make up a new one up [/quote] But that's exactly what happened (and continues to happen...). It doesn't obey the original [i]classical [/i]rules, but once dominant scales and Major/Minor chords started to be 'allowed' (ie: used..!), the rules were updated to reflect this... [quote]...[color=#242729]Early on in common practice music the V7 chord construction was frequently encountered (note: the dominant seventh of the current key is meant...); over time, the name "dominant seventh" came to be applied to [/color][i]any[/i][color=#242729] major triad with a flattened seventh degree, even when one is not dealing with the dominant of the current tonality.[/color] C7 is, in the most literal sense, the dominant triad, with an added seventh, in the key of F major. One of the most common uses of the dominant, fifth (V), chord is in a perfect cadence, V->I. Although this is done with just triads, including the seventh of the dominant chord reinforces the finality of the cadence. Over time, the designation of these "dominant seventh" chords expanded to any (major) chord involving the flattened seventh degree...[/quote] The 7th chord with all diatonic notes (ie: a 'B' in the key of C...) would be a Maj7. There are other 7th chords, too.

[quote name='Cameronj279' timestamp='1500485075' post='3338201']... Any ideas how to post pics? [/quote] Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Flickr, Imgur, imgBB or ImageShack is a good idea; the photos are better presented and it uses no BC server space. I use Imgur (it's free...); here's what it looks like (the correct link for Basschat is in green...) ... Others are similar (assuming use of a PC; I know nothing of other devices...). Hope this helps... -
