Too much gear, too few gigs! Excellent Condition, both with Roqsolid covers. Want to sell as a pair for £800. Not really practical to post, so collection from Swindon although might consider meeting halfway/delivery option for petrol depending on distance No trades I'm afraid (see above!) You all know what these look like, but will take photos if anyone wants. Get in quick before my sanity returns!

With much regret I must sell this excellent specimen of a 2002 MiM Fender 5 string Jazz bass. Dont let anyone tell you that mex Fenders are inferior, 'cos if you get a good one, they're right up there with the US and CiJ models, and this is a really good 'un! Best B string I've heard on a Fender by miles! The only modifications I have made is to upgrade to Fender N3 noiseless pickups, which iare a great improvement on the stock items. I have used this bass on many gigs, but the overall condition is very good, with just a couple of minor scratches. One thing to point out is that it has had a repair to the headstock, where a slight crack was present, but I took it to Simon Law, (he of Guitar magazine tech column and tech to Matt Schofield and Robben Ford), who injected some "luthier glue type stuff" in there and clamped it up for a couple of days, and its now probably stronger than new! I've tried to photo this, but there is absolutely no problem with it at all. [s]£350[/s] £300 plus postage, collect from Swindon or possible meet halfway/deliver for petrol money depending on distance. Pics! I originally bought this with a view to using with a power amp for my gigging set up but subsequently the band folded so I have been using it as a headphone amp, which it does brilliantly! Its a very "musical" piece of kit that has obviously been well thought out. It has many useful functions, here's the official blurb "The Phil Jones Bass Buddy multi-function headphone amp. The Bass Buddy is made with a heavy plated chrome steel case with 1/4" CNC machined aluminum front panel. Its features include an EQ dedicated for Bass instruments, a stereo input and volume control for drum machine/MP3/walkman, and is battery powered or with a AC adaptor. It could also be used as an active DI box, or a pre-amp with enough power to drive any headphones, power amp or even a speaker. Weighs only 2 lbs. and measures 5.35 inches W x 1.75 inches H x 7.3 inches D. The Bass Buddy™ is the most compact practice amp in the market loaded with multiple features. A heavy duty, protective padded shoulder bag is also included." One tiny barely visible scratch on the top £160 posted to you sir if you're in the UK mainland! Just pulled the trigger on a used U-Retro, its gotta be an improvement over the stock preamp, I dont want to get into changing the pickups though, as I think it might be a bit of a problem finding a MM type pickup compatible with the wider spacing, and anyway, the retro has nearly doubled the value of the bass!
Recently aquired a fretless fiver, its a very well put together bass, not too heavy and balances well. The low B isn't great but I have a new set of strings in the post and if they improve matters, I might consider an electrical upgrade, as I agree with the previous posts regarding pickups and circuit. Here's a pic (courtesy of mykesbass - hope you dont mind )
Thinking about one of these for my daughter to use as a practice tool. Not too worried about the quality of the effects, but the rhythm patterns and metronome sound useful, as does the aux in. The previous models had a reputation for eating batteries, anyone here had any experience of these for bass? Cheers Andy
Nice looking bass! I didn't know there were fretless versions.
The previous owner, Mykesbass had the board replaced by john shuker, as I recall. Made a cracking job of it too! I got some SIT silencer halfwounds through the letterbox today so I'll fit them when time allows and see if there is an improvement in the B string. Might be a U-Retro incoming if it turns out alright

Just bought a bass from Mike, clearly been well looked after, (the bass that is ), sold for a fair price with a nice cuppa and a good ole chat about bass stuff thrown in for good measure! Be happy to trade with him again in the future

Can you recommend a drum machine to practise with?
andyonbass replied to stefBclef's topic in Theory and Technique
The Korg Pandora has a load of drum patterns, as well as many other useful features for a practice anywhere solution. I had the older PX3B but I'm sure the current models have the same if not more features. -

Funny things you've heard at a gig/soundcheck?

I depped for a band where the singer said she couldn't do a certain song because she hadn't learned the ad-libs yet -
Heh, was hoping someone would mention him (Colin Hodgkinson), I couldn't think of his name. Virtuoso indeed! Would love to see him play.
Sorry to hijack, but how do you fretless guys monitor your playing in a live situation? Often as not I struggle to hear myself playing fretted bass in the band where intonation isn't an issue (as long as you hit the correct fret )
It's not a planet waves cable by anychance is it? Some of these can have a little "spring" type area on the jack which I suspect is meant to make it grip better. Doesn't always work in reality though
If the previous owner used Planet Waves cables it may have opened out the contacts a touch, making non PW cables a sloppy fit. Wouldn't be the first time I've heard that. -
Go and see a few bands around your local pub circuit, and if you hear what sounds good to you, go and pick the brains of the bass player and check out his gear. It took me a long time to learn that what you hear on stage can be totally different to what the punters hear out front.
