Piezo Bridge String volume imbalance.
andyonbass replied to andyonbass's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks for you replies, guys good advice as always!
Then gently lift the saddle out of the slot.
I tried to do this when I changed the strings, but there was some resistance so not wanting to force anything, I decided against it. If you look at the photo, there is an allen screw either side of the saddle, (height adjustment?) I wonder whether they are whats holding the saddle in place? Essexbasscat, I will visit the Fishman site, thanks for the heads up. I replaced the strings with the same guage that I removed, which I assume were factory spec,as the bass had recently been repaired at Status Graphite.( for a different issue) I am surprised this wasn't picked uo in the process -
I have just aquired a Status Electro, after a long time searching for one and the wait has been worthwile apart from one annoying factor. There is an annoying imbalance between the volumes on the strings The B is pretty quiet, the E and A seem ok the D is way loud and the G seems ok. I have changed the strings, but this hasn't improved it at all really. Searching on the net reveals this is not uncommon with piezo equipped instruments and possibly the under saddle piezo has moved slightly. I'm reluctant to have it apart myself, having no experience of this type of bridge and I dont want to make it worse. What I'd like to know is whether it is a job that can be trusted to my local guitar shop or if a specialist would be required, and if so,has anybody any reccomendations? I could take it to Rob at Status Graphite but it is a fair old trek for me so anything closer would be a bonus! Thanks in anticipation Andy Its this one here

1994 Warwick Fortress one 5 string NOW SOLD!!!
andyonbass replied to andyonbass's topic in Basses For Sale
To be fair the fortress 5 is the only warwick that I've really wanted, I think because the body shape is so similar to a Marleaux (my favourite basses) and they do balance incredibly well! Still, gotta wait for mine to sell as I just don't have the cash, unless your interested in a nonn-metal looking ESP LTD five string with those real nice EMG's?
Thanks for the trade offer, but I need to recoup some cash from a recent gas attack!! -
Check out the notice boards in Kempsters or Holmes, there used to be a couple of notices advertising tuition. Couldn't comment on the quality, though

andyonbass replied to andyonbass's topic in Basses For Sale
If my bass sells I'm gonna grab this if it isn't too late, I love these basses! So comfy to play!
There has never been a better time to buy a used Warwick, prices are rock bottom for some reason, the quality and performance you get for your money cannot be equalled! -
Just a quick question could you tell me the string spacing andy cheers.
According to my unscientific ruler measurement, I'd say about 17mm at the bridge. [Edit} Just checked the Warwick web site and it says 16.5mm
Where abouts are you based?
I am in Swindon, Wilts
I've got a 4-string 93 Fortress which is a keeper. Such a great neck on these...bump

Had one once, a great design with that woody honk. These have got to start attracting more attention as time passes, for the Wenge neck alone. good luck
Thanks, guys, you're right about the woody honk ............ and the neck!! -
I assume this is the active one. I am looking for a corvette without any luck and could be tempted. Could you run me through the controls skez
Yes it is active, although it has a pull option on the Volume control for passive mode. The controls are Volume as above, Bass (cut/boost I presume) Treble (ditto) and pickup blend. PM'd! -

With great reluctance I am offering this brilliant workhorse of a bass for sale, - I just cant get to grips with the string spacing Its a proper german one, usual Warwick refinements, ie , Just-a-nut adjustable nut, 2 piece bridge, recessed straploks, MEC pickups and circuit which combined with the maple body and wenge neck, allow the typical Warwick growl to cut through the mix with great clarity and articulation, (it also does Dub and everything in between) Judging by the wear at the popping finger position, it probably also does slap pretty well too! Talking of wear, this is nearly eighteen years old and has seen some service and bears a few marks, the aforementioned wear from popping (see photo), some minor belt rash, one small ding on the back of neck on the treble side, (which isn't noticable in play), and the general cosmetic marks you would expect from an instrument of this age. . This feels a very solid instrument, average weight, the action can get very low if thats your preference, balances perfectly and is ready to earn its keep! I got this fairly recently, in a trade deal as I have always liked the sound of Warwicks and admired the German quality and this has exceeded my expectations in that respect, its just the string spacing!! I'm asking £450 for it, I would prefer collection as I dont have a case for it and I'm sure any potential buyer would like to try it out first

Unwanted distorted sound from my Trace Elliot AH60012 - Sorted!
andyonbass replied to MarkG3's topic in Repairs and Technical
If its an active bass, have you tried changing the battery? Mine gets horribly distorted when the battery dies -
Mmm.... Food for thought. Any thoughts on the fender Mexican jazz 5 strings, are they better made than the squires?
I have a mim jazz fiver that is brilliant, with a really well defined B, but I may have got lucky here, 'cos others I have played have been a let down. I think the quality control is a bit variable and its best to try before you buy
-
Glad it arrived ok, Pete, Thanks for the feedback
-
I think you're right about the sound quality, but after (too) many years of an 8x10 wrecking my back, my car, (I even knocked my front door frame out of the wall once!) and struggling up stairs and then back down again it finally dawned on me that 95% of the punters don't even notice or care. I have now made the trade off to lightweight gear and you know what? Its not so bad sound wise and my backache has gone!

Ste has just bought a Markbass head off of me, he paid instantly and responded to messages in double quick time! In all, a very easy and pleasant transaction and I'd have no hesitation in dealing with him again. Top bloke!!

Markbass LM2 Combo head + Markbass bag Now Sold
andyonbass replied to andyonbass's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
This was my previously amp and I took it out of the MB 1x15 cab and it was very well cared for, it's a great amp... and also andyonbass is a trusted guy to buy off.. That's a very good price!! If I wasn't trying to buy another bass, I'd have it back
Thanks Adrian, the current condition is evidence that its previous owner took great care with it! Hope you are doing well and keeping the gigs rolling in! This is now sold, by the way! -
The combo head is the removable head from the CMD combo range, it is essentially a LittleMark 2 with a bit more yellow on the front. Same chassis and internals. This one has been kept in the included genuine Markbass bag so is in very tidy condition, with just a few marks where it must've rubbed when being removed from the combo. Its in perfect working order. The bag has one sticky zip, but is also in very good condition £300

The amplug is a good device, but dont bother with their speaker cabinet accessory, it farts out at anything louder than a whisper. I know 'cos I sent one back for exchange thinking it was faulty, and the replacement was even worse
