1. This is only my theory but............... I should imagine the cost of manufacture of flats is higher as well as the raw materials. Why? Round wire is a more standard commodity to manufacture. String manufactureres buy in thier wires not make them themselves. The supplier will be geared up and therefore cheaper to supply round wire. It will be easier to produce than flat which would probably need a secondary process to come within spec of the rectangular profile. Then in the string manufacturers the tolorance for flats would be higher than rounds. The slightest discrepency in thickness of flats would be noticable compared to rounds where any slight discrepency would be lost since your fingers are going from peak to peak. Think the difference between paving slabs (Flats) and cobbles (rounds) path. The flats need to be polished again. What you must realise is any, and I mean ANY, extra manufacturing process can be extremely expensive. You need production space and access, operator(s) and machinery and time. All of these cost money to instigate, maintain and run. This goes for both supplier and manufacturer. To sum it up. Theres a wire manufaturer somewere with a 'Flat wire machine sitting in the corner making 1000m a day. The big man in the office keeps sucking on his cigar and thinking "I could have a round wire machine sitting ther making 10,000m a day so Ill have to charge 10x as much for the flat wire to justify it" A NOTE: Figures stated are made up and used for effect only
 2.
hi this is my bitsa
Yep that is realy nice. White control plate to. 5. Did someone mention pick guards!!! It is quit a bit of work to cover the front but not too difficult. Cut a ledge around the cavity you want to fill and plug with 4mm ply. Either fill with grain filler and respray or veneer the whole front for a guaranteed no gap finish. One advantage you have is that black binding. Mask up to that and paint the front a different colour. That Ray PG looks way better than the other options. OR You could do a 'Burns' style and have two or three seperate PG sections to cover all the bits!!! You also have the added bonus of incorperating another marque into the mix Rayburnfenderbacker A
 6.
Love the polystyrene formwork idea, dont fancy being the poor chap picking it all back out though! Tremendous gear list that, much droolage!
Burn it out. Oh its inside........ maybe not. To the OP: Whats that bloke doing in your fishtank anyway!! A
 7. Ive tried GHS and Roto. The Roto's felt and sounded 'plasticy' and unnatural. The GHS's felt much better. They have a slightly roughened surface (Think paper as apposed to plastic) and were softer in sound. A
 8.
That old boy can still play a bass! Interesting series of vids, seems there maybe/was a CD out?
What a beautiful folk tune! Almost prog and worthy of Jethro Tull. That would make a realy good cover for someone of that ilk. Love it. Never realised that Trevor Horn was such a good bass player! A
 9.
I love it! It's playful and it looks ace, there's a sense of humour in there. I'd be seen with it
Exactly Its a fun design exercise done with skill. The definitive Bitsa in all senses of the word A
 10. That was realy realy good Worth keeping an eye on you I think. Very well written. Catchy stuff. Just dont go too heavy though. I can hear it coming out but it will be better if you hold that back. Gives it more tension. cool A
 11. My first (Proper) gig was supported by non other than Ellis Beggs and Howard. I dont remember a chapman stick anywere though I wouldnt have recognised one back then if he had poked me in the eye with it!! A
 12.
I wouldn't go there. It was not my intention to go there. Although I do believe it [1]. Oh yes. Canned worms anybody? [1] ask the "wood matters" fanatics this question: when you want to change the sound of your bass, do you first... a.) replace the pickups? b.) replace preamp? c.) replace neck? d.) replace body? e.) replace passive electronics? f.) replace pickguard for a wooden one? Then sit down and smile as they try to maneouvre their way into a coherent argument whilst avoiding Abe. Ok, so I bit
'f' of course A

 15. You need a fish tank in there somewhere. Makes for a chilled environment A
 16. Cant you swap the cream covers over for black ones? The J retro may be a bit of a 'waste' in such a thing! Although the black cover does go well with the scratch plate. But then you would have to swap the bridge and machine heads for black to just to complete the look Oh and one thing Ive noticed............ Its got a rosewood finger board!!!! Im suprised you let it through the door A
 17.
bash my b*lls with an iron bar.....OK 1st clue....'erm lets make it not too easy, Times Crossword stylie.....a big selling LP....1st word 'a safe way to cross the road'!
Is it Gary Newman? A

 20.
#ARTISTS_BULLSHIT_ALERT Artist's Statement "My last twenty five years have been spent as a fine art painter, drawer, and sculptor. What I have learned from 20th Century master artists, Giacometti, Cezanne, Matisse, Johns, and others, is an economy of technique, doing what is necessary to get the job done, nothing more, nothing less. The work of these great artists is about expression above all, and all gratuitous craft is rigorously paired away. Most fine guitar making is obsessive about craft perfection. Mine is not. I strive to build instruments that sound exceptional, play beautifully, and are extremely interesting to look at. The instruments aren't gratuitously tidy or perfectionistic or consistent. I tear them apart and rebuild them until I find them exciting. Perfect guitars are great, but there are plenty of those. I'm searching for something more raw, more direct." - Phil [s]Sylvester[/s] Silvers
Fixed it for you. Its the sort of tosh he would have said in Bilko!
 21. 2x45mins = QUADROPHENIA A
 22. There are lots of different types of quick release clip type things, just google it. However Im thinking press studs . They will look quit cool instead of screw heads. Low profile for slipping the plate under the strings. You can screw the male bit onto the body etc etc. You can get them in various sizes and strengths. If you want the low strength clips then go for the habidashery type ones but if you want the full strength, break out in a sweat with your foot for leaverage, type then go to a Chandlers for the type they use on boat covers. They come in pretty colours to A
 23. Hey Hey That Ryder looks pretty good . Love the fact its a real cheapy on a pukka vid Looks pretty fun to make to. Must have been great wandering around looking miserable all that time hee hee A
 24. I realy like this one mate. Those cut outs and the chamfers with the matt black realy works Nice job. Self contained scratch plates with diff pickups is a nice touch. Nothing to plug in as such, just fix in place and off you go. Maybe 3 twist clips to hold it in place and for quick swap? A
