1. We need updates with pics You could always add an extra inch to the neck if you want a realy tight B A
 2.
Aha! It lives!!!!!!!!!!!! I wrongly wired the - wires of the coils at the - terminal of the preamp, when they should be grounded directly and instead take a wire from the parallel/series switch to the - of the preamp (which I had grounded by mistake). It now works... and it's mighty The only question left is... what to fill the hole left by the preamp off/on/boost switch with. I'll probably just put a dummy switch there.
An LED A
 3. At 7:15 it went all static and "Sorry an error occured please try again later" came up. Now if that aint a conspiracy I dont know what is!! A
 4. Ill have a word with Mrs APA to see if shes working. Might treat you all to a few of my girls so lightly pencil me in. Im in Glasto and could take a couple of others as long as its just basses. Ive got a corsa A
 5. Hmmmm is it just me or are his descriptions becoming a bit 'intentional'? He seems to be doing it deliberatly these days. The senserity has gone. The nieve artistry isnt there any more. Its all a bit forced. A bit like that tricky second album. I prefer his earlier works. I know all great artists never stay still but is he going down the right track? Perhaps he needs to take a break. Go to Tibet or a small cottage in North Wales to get his vibe back. It would be a shame if he burnt out so early. But then again alot of the 'Greats' seem to do that. Once they are discovered the flame burns too bright and they vanish into the anals of history. Come on MDP get back to your roots man. Rediscover why your doing all this great work. Dont play to the gallery play from your heart. A
 6. Love a bit of Spalted Beech and Yandels is a few hours off your life too One thing though. Isnt it going to be a bit on the heavy side being Beech?? A
 7. It actualy looks pretty good with the original black scratch plate on to! A
 8. Thank you muchly y'all Ill bare Overwater in mind for the future thanks. It sort of reminds me of an early 70's posh bathroom A
 9. Cool Someone likes it cheers A
 10. Ok this is my "Because I can" bass. Im a bit hesitant at putting this one up as Im sure most will think 'eww snot burst' etc but Im begining to love this one as a mother loves a son Ive put a few pics of the build to. She started out as a Squier VM 5 string which had been mucked about with. To be fare the sound was good but with a nasty respray on the neck and a Fender decal I didnt feel too bad about changing what is a perfectly good base bass. So heres what I did.......... 1. Cut the end off the heel and stuck an extra 1" to make it a 35" scale. Thanks to ou7shined for that extra inch 2. Machined off the maple fretted fingerboard and replaced with a rosewood fretless machined from a blank. 3. Filled in the 4+1 holes on the head and redrilled for a 5 in line and used mini Wilkinsons. 4. Veneered the head and heel to hide all the holes etc. 5. Filled in the control cavity and machined out a rear cavity. 6. Made an Oak burst scratch plate with Sycamore control plate. 7. Pickups changed for custom wound Wizard 74's. 8. Bridge changed for High Mass with Piezo. 9. 18v U-Retro preamp with Piezo pre with 4 stacked knobs: Master Vol/(Piezo-JJ Blend) Treble/Bass Mid/Mid Sweep Piezo Treble roll off/Jazz Blend 10. Resprayed body/head Antigia (well sort of) 11. 6 screw neck fixing. 12. Through body stringing at rear of bridge. I think thats about it! Had a hell of a job finding strings. With the extra inch and the strings going through body at the rear of the bridge I needed 38 1/2" of speaking length but didnt want rounds on it. Thanks to a great guy on TB I founf the Roto flats extra long plus the extra long B fit just perfect . Sound wise its very versatile. I should bl@@dy well hope so with 3 pickups!! Not alot of 'mwah' at the moment, Im still getting the action right, but its got quit a bit of growl and the B is pretty good even if i say so myself. One very nice mix is the J bridge with a bit of mid and treble plus a bit of piezo with its treble rolled off. Im realy not sure about the colour but its growing on me! I wanted it a bit darker and less green to be honest but it all depends on what light you look at it in. Sometimes its very very green, then its more grey. Very odd!! Those Roto flats are lovely. I was going off Rotos in general but these are exellent. Nice high tension with the 35" (Actually 35 1/4") and a uniform tone over all 5 strings. I had had it set up strung through the bridge with both Chromes and Status half wounds and I was worrying about the tone but once I did it through body with these Rotos she came to life. Highly recomended So here she is. My 'Because I can' Bass Lucie. Love her or hate her shes my baby What she started out as..... Some build pics including proof that the blocks are inlays, how I did the burst and a close escape with the truss rod!! The end result.............................. Go on admit it.... you hate it A
 11. With that wax oil / hammerite refin that thing will last for ever. Well the paint will, not sure about anything else! I think someone has thier eye on the preamp and pickup more than anything else. The sellers ok in my book. Hes telling it like it is and if someone wants to buy it then fare enough. A
 12. Heres as close as you're going to get Gareth.......... I needed 38 1/2" so looking at the pick below of the B which isnt stretched to tune you should be alright if your after 38 3/4" . The pack you need is the Rotosound Monel Flats extra long (RS77EL) A
 13. Huzzar success (Sort of) OK so thier flats but at least they fit............... Rotosound 77 Monel Flats Extra long 4 string set (RS77EL) + .130 Extra Long single B (JEL130) And heres the proof............. A
 14.
I don't know too much about him, but Nick Beggs is going to be working with Rick Wakeman on some upcoming live dates in South America. I've never seen Nick do anything but Kajagoogoo stuff. so may trawl Youtube later to see his other stuff. According to the article on Ricks website, Lee P is off on tour with Captain Barlow.
Ive always admired Nick. Alot better than some people give credit for. 'Ellis beggs and howard' has some good moments. A
Nice collection!
All thats missing is a 5 string OLP right? A
 16.
That is very tasty!
Cheers mate Is it how you imagined it? The outer colour is a bit stronger in the flesh but not much. A

 18.
G' morning guys, I came across this address last night - http://www.rotosound...tring_guide.php It explains for me the meaning of "speaking length" and scale length. There seems to be an all round limited range of very long strings, but presumably Rotosound do something in "extra long scale". D'addario do half-rounds in "Super long scale" which also seem to fit the bill. GHS do Precision Flats suitable for a 36" scale length but don't confirm that this would translate into a speaking length of 38.5", as per the Rotosound example. Balcro.
They dont fit I bought some and they are about 1/2" to 1" too short for my 38 1/2" needs. A
 19.
The gear4music rack looks the same as the Chord, I did a review on the 5 http://basschat.co.u...tar-stand-rack/ still in use & still as good as new, just a bit dusty TBH
The one from gear4music is a Chord. It says so on the side of it, on the intructions and on the bag so it must be true Its a good stand. Solid and practical. I like it A
 20.
Y'know, I'd never noticed the overhang on the bottom of the neck till you mentioned it! It's only about 2mm and doesn't affect playing in any way. But - having never had my hands on a 5 string jazz pickup - are the lugs further apart top-to-bottom than on a four? I'd assumed they'd be in the same place and to just extend the top and bottom where the poles are. (this is all to do with why my one has a gaping hole in waiting for a neck pickup)
Comparing the 4 and 5 string Squier VM's the lugs are stretched out in proportion. You would have to fill and re route. A
 21.
I'd ask Overwater first...or maybe Picato? Otherwise I'd guess D'Addario chromes come in an extra long, but that may not be long enough for your bass.
The half wound d'addario extra long dont fit mine which needs 38 1/2" A
 22. I feel your pain http://basschat.co.uk/topic/187375-extra-extra-long-halfpressureground-wound-5-string-set/page__fromsearch__1 Your only hope is the TI Super longs Jazz at 40" and at over £70 a go. If you can hold on for a few months Newtone may be starting to do bespoke lengths in flats. You can ask Status etc but they will have a min order of 10 packs at about £35 each Good luck and if you do get hold of something let me know A

 24.
Why not just rout out the neck pocket and pickup holes? - instant 5 string.
Ishould imagine you would have to offset the neck and pickups since you could only route one way in the neck or it would overhang on one side. then you would have to fill in the bridge pickup route and recut it to allow for the change in positions of the screw lugs. Sort of doable but allot of faff and not the perfect answer. Nice idea though A
