1. Really liking that boxwood neck Only thing though - As nice as it looks, is it a good idea to have a knot in there? It will be a very hard spot? A
2.
I am slightly in love with Mel (Kristen Schaal). So cute. Murry, Brett and Jermaine's mastery of deadpan is absolutely wonderous also.
With you on that about Mel cooky is cute although Im more of a Dobey from peepshow guy these days. Loved the sketch 'I think you should appolagies for what you did to me in my dream' A
3. Absolutely beautifull! Love it to death - right up my street A
4. I thought my ears where a bit warm It would be cool to have a mini bash on Saturday sometime Uncle if you can make it Jose thats a rather nice Daisy Duke bass you have there Im not a fan of the 50's style P's. Rather odd scratchplate and the headstock is too thin but now the plate is off it does look alot better. The star works though - do they come with that? Ill reserve further judgement until the wekend A
5. I would imagine you would have to put them in a hermetically sealed bag like D'addario's. Its quit a wet place is your freezer even if its all frozen. I see the logic but strings are not perishable to that extent. But try it and find out. It wont hurt if they are sealed. Unless of course you want to take it down to about 2deg above absolute zero to straighten those atoms out. They will sound amazing especially if you sell them for about £5k a string A
6. I recognise that handwriting............... Yandels by any chance? A
7. 1 or 5 shirley! Thats alot of overspray lol. I used a few old sheets and an old guitar stand in my sprays. It looks quit nice with that SUBesk rough finish effect. Slightly off the subject but whats going on in the control cavity? There seems to be a strip of darker wood. Ply insert? A
8.
Well, I applied the last coat of Capri orange. Not last as in "definitely it does not need any more", but last as in it started spluttering, so I stopped before I spoiled what was looking pretty uniform spraying. Definitely, one can is enough if you are a bit careful. Next time I will do it better. It looks great. Matte, but I´d be happy using it as it is already. I guess I will fine sand it in a few hours, 1200 grit only, making sure I don´t over do it this time! and then... I should really buff it to get it glossy, but it looks nice already! Hmm. Apa, you will definitely see the body, but I´m not sure I will have it reassembled by Thursday. You can help me choose pickguards I have the original white one. A black one, as I intended originally. A dark blue pearloid thing, just because. And... a metallic pickguard (great for shielding! ) in some kind of greenish blue, or blueish green. Not a pretty colour, but mixed with the bright orange I think it can look very funky... or say "look, I´m colour blind!" I took some pictures with my mobile... althought I forgot to take pictures before I started painting it! I probably have some still from the original ad ´haimesy´put here in BC. I´ll upload them when I am at home, later today. I have some cleaning to do here first. My "Dexter" contraption worked quite well... but the spray produces some very very very fine dust and I have noticed it has settled on some uncovered wooden chairs a meter or two away from the spraying area. So I will have to dust the place and make sure there is no white-orange dust anywhere. Next one... that 5 string Stingray clone. Question is: translucent red, or fiesta red????
You know what Im going to say dont you.................. WOOD. Nice bit of Burr veneer would set that orange off nicely. Oh and I wouldnt work too hard on the cleaning up - she'll know and find it anyway. Fine wine, Belgian chocolates and a big bunch of flowers is the price you pay Im afraid. Oh and a few years of reminders when she needs to A
9.
I like how he said 'I can play bass but I'm not a bass player'.
Yes I noticed that lol! Not 100% sure how to take that A
10. Ahh I love the optimisum of your use of your GF place This all sounds really cool. Hope I get to see the results in the flesh! (Weather permitting) Im not one for bright coloured basses but that Capri orange does have a certain charm - like it A
11.
Sounding real good there mate, your lady there has a sweet voice! My mum was a big Glen Campbell fan so I would have first heard this when I was about 8, those haunting lyrics have stuck with me all my life, and the song still has the power to make me go all melancholy Brilliant!
Thats me to. We had a cassette of his greatest hits and I played it over and over. Always makes me think of Sunday mornings as mum makes Sunday dinner. I was amazed at his guitar skills to. Wow very interesting stuff. A
12.
I am looking for a drummer that wants to donate me an old snare stand
Im sure someone used a modded one of those on here a while a go. Seem to remember it fell over. Just sayin...... A

14. Did you plump for the stand as well? Its pretty damn good. Very well built and stable and adjustable. Cant fault it. I got mine for about £35 last year. Dont fancy that tree trunk falling over . Also get down to Claires accessories and pick out a nice plain black girls hair clip thingy, take out the spring and glue some of that foam into it. Makes a very neat string mute A
15. Thank goodness for that!! Sorting out a Stagg is a hobby in itself A
16. A cup of tea for starters I think if you plan on sticking with these strings then its worth the shot and maybe stopping at 20mm and trimming a bit of silk back. I actually tried trimming the silks on mine before realising They still wouldnt fit and went for the countersinking so mine, I assume, arent worth much but then Im not planning on changing them at all. They last for a long time. Just detuned my E completely and the stretch is 18mm. They have been on for over a year so you could probably add a couple of mm to that. A
17.
So that is from the side nearest the bridge to the back of a spiro ball? I have just measured a ball at about 10mm so you think you have about 13mm of wood left? Does your have the yellow foam pads in too or have you discarded them? Thanks.
Yep. Ok so the 10 - 15mm was a bit optomistic! It was a while ago when I did mine. Probably 13- 15mm of wood left. I did put those little discs on yes. No idea what they are for! On the silk colour thing - Mine are red both ends and I got the 3885,0 Medium Spiro Core set. A
18. Just measured mine by sticking a pencil from the back. The back end of the ball is 23mm from the front of the block. If you take away the diameter of the ball from 23mm you will have the amount of wood left. There is no sign of damage or stress on mine. All is solid. A
19. Hmmm. I managed to do it with about that amount of countersinking. Interestingly my strings are bright red silks not your purple. Or is it the camera? All depends if you intend swapping and changing them. Its not cheap as you know. A
20. Just hold on a minute there. There is a solution................. Take a look at the fixing at the tail end of the Stagg. Unscrew those big 4 screws and take the block off. Now get an (I think 10mm) drill bit and slowly drill those holes deeper by about 10 - 15mm. Take your time and use either a hand drill or your fingers. The wood is very soft. The strings do stretch. That should give you enough length to get the silk over the nut. A EDIT: for more precise intructions
21.
I have actually held, if not played said Bass!
You have indeed Sir And just to answer the original OP. Squiers are indeed very good instruments however it does depend on the range you try. The VM series are on a par if not better than Fenders. The Affinity range are the bargain basment but it is reflected in the cost so not a comparison. The caviat that 'it was probably a bad one' When excusing Fenders says it all in terms of overall quality. That statement shouldnt really enter the equation when spending that much money on a famous brand. With regard to the costs. Yes the actual assembly of the instrument is a big factor. You should also remember the running overheads of it all as well. Every aspect from the electricity, property, admin, transport, raw materials costs etc etc all add up. I dont thing there is much difference in the profit margine between the two. A
22.
That's pretty much what I get, I have a completely vivid impression of the subject, like a film but with smell too. On your last point, it was Jimmy Webb who wrote it, under similar circumstances. There is a wonderful BBC R4 documentary from last year about this song with an interview with Jimmy Webb. I wonder if it's findable in the internetz. EDIT: Here! http://www.bbc.co.uk...rammes/b013f96w
Ha! I knew that. Got a bit carried away in the romance of the moment A
23.
It's an amazing line (ignore pun), but my favourite is 'I know I need a small vacation, but it don't look like rain'. It's just overloaded (ignore pun) with pathos and resigned acceptance, that line speaks (ignore pun) so deeply to me for some reason.
Yep Every word and line has so much weight. Makes you think so much of the man in question. Being able to write a song on that subject about such an ordinary thing is both inspired and brave. Its about everyone yet only him. Your mind is taken there. Guy up a pole, on his own, in the middle of nowere yet hes with so many people living thier lives past him. I have an image of Glen resting his head on the tour bus window and watching the telegraph lines and poles waving and flicking past. Then the idea coming to him. Genious. A
