I am now convinced that this poor man is mentally ill. If there are any doctors on here can someone please assist him in finding the help he needs.
Ive resisted the temptation to comment on the various threads dedicated to this legend but Im actually inclined to agree with you. There is definatley something up with him! Hes definatley a fantasist who is in his own little delusioned world. He is at once entertainment, a disgrace and pathetic. A
Interesting, the Status B seems good on mine-infact they sound good and consistent across the set. Maybe there is a slight difference in guitars as the Carvin is an XB 35.5 scale, which is partly why I was struggling to find strings in the first place. Unfortunately I haven't got the Dadario's to try. I'm happy with the status anyway as I like the sound. You just can't generalise with Bass guitars can you. Thanks for the complement
Im in just the same boat with the strings. Mine is a home made 35 1/4" through body. The only 5 strings that will fit this baby that are not round wounds are TI flats at over £70 a pop I may have not strung the Status B correctly (Not enough brake) so that may have been it. BTW Newtone may be in the market to make custom length Flats in the new year so theres hope for us silly long scale guys yet A

Ive just tried just these two sets of strings on my 35" fretless jazz V also with a piezo and Im undecided at the mo. The status were a nicer string but the B was awefull. The dadario's have a higher tension which I prefer and a decent B. The roughness soon wears off so its not realy an issue I dont think. I may swap back to the status to compare again. Nice mole track btw A
27 years ago. They blew everyone else off. Ermmm, were the best band on the day, I mean. Extra Extra long Half/Pressure/Ground wound 5 string set
apa replied to apa's topic in General Discussion
I think Ive found the only set that I can use!!! TI E-Jazz Flats (JF365) with a working length of 40" but a bit pricey at £35+ for a set. Roll on New year so I can get some made by Newtone. A -
Extra Extra long Half/Pressure/Ground wound 5 string set
Hello apa, Just had a look on the ghsstrings web-site. They do a five string version of the Pressurewound strings - ref: M7200-5, and a a 5 string set of "Precision Flats" - ref: M3050-5. They claim that these are "long scale plus" and will fit up to a 36" scale bass. That looks to be the answer, Unfortunately not available in Brite Flat. Oddly, no five string sets for the Brite Flats. My set is coded ML3075 and is for a 4-string and is described as standard long scale for 34" basses. Balcro.
Yep thats the set I use but Mine are the M3075 set. The 'ML' is for 'Medium Lite' gauge. All of these GHS strings are going to be a bit close to the bone I think I cant for the life of me find any stock 5 strings or 4 strings for that matter of any manufacturer with a usable length of greater than 38" Grrrrrrr A -
Its not all about being flash Terry Chambers - Tight as a gnats chuff but knows what to put in what and when - brilliant........................ Extra Extra long Half/Pressure/Ground wound 5 string set
apa replied to apa's topic in General Discussion
Right.............. Just put an old GHS Brite Flat E Long Scale (M3075) on it, tuned it up to stretch it and the silk is over (On the fboard side) the nut by approx 10mm and the taper 'shoulder' is just resting on the nut so if I cut the silks back it may just work. Theres one subtle flaw in all this................ I dont think GHS make 5 string Brite Flats KiOgon My P strung with Brite flats looks just like yours so your probably right A -
How do you lock this thread and throw away the key because Ive got a bad feeling about this............................ Anyone else smell GAS?? A

Extra Extra long Half/Pressure/Ground wound 5 string set
apa replied to apa's topic in General Discussion
Now thats an option thanks kiOgon (Fellow GHS Fanboy ). I was hoping to avoid flats as such. Question is - WTF is a 'winding length'!! I wish they would standardise the terms. Ill see how far out my other GHS 34" scale strings are and extrapolate from there. A -
Hows that for a niche market!! Im desperate to find a set of Half or Ground or Pressure (What ever you want to call them) wound 5 string set but in extra long scale. When I say extra long I mean a voice length of 38 1/2" or 980mm (Ball to Silk) I did buy a set of Status half wounds but they are too short by about 30mm. These are for a fretless. Or if anyone knows who can make a set. Status will but theres a minimum order of 10 packs!! Newton only do round wounds (Although they are planning on custom flats in the new year ) There is the option of extra long Chromes but they are about £50. I do know that GHS (My prefered brand) do the ML720-5 Pressure wound but not sure they will fit. I have seen thier ML3075 Brite Flats mentioned as extra long sets and in 5 string packs but cant find them anywere for sale. Help please!!! A

Cant make out the headstock name! Probably really cheap Chinese nonsence to start with. Still a bargain though when 'missing a string' is classed as a default Looking at some of them they are missing a trick, some people pay alot of money for scratches and chips. I think the technical term is 'Reliced' I actually like the green burst and grey/black Jazzes. A
Not really, The J type is a lot closer to the neck than it would be in a Jazz or usual MM/J types. I've always found them a bit difficult to balance as the MM tends to overpower the J, but it's a good sound. A bit like the MM with a bit of midscoop and the extra overtones from the neck pickup at that position. The Cort GB74 is more of a Jazz+MM, although in that case the MM is a lot closer to the bridge than on a Stingray, making it essentially a "fat Jazz". But if you're making your own bass, you can make it anything you like! ;-)
But they are in effect a single coil at the neck and a humbucker at the bridge? A
-
visa vie the pickups: Is it in effect a Jazz + MM set up? Im interested on the mix of those if it is A
Have a listen to Lou Howard from Red Guitars (and The Planet Wilson) I love her playing. "Good Technology" is all root notes, but songs like Astronomy, Steeltown and Cloak & Dagger show what she can do.
Wow theres a blast from the past!!! Shes playing a fretless on the 'good technology' vid. She is/was a realy good player A
Have a look at this one it's £20 cheaper than the Warwick ones http://www.gear4musi...-Rack-Stand/J55
That looks pretty cool Cheers chrismuzz! Nice and cheap to. Anyone got one of these babies? A

Having .....erm............... 12 of the little buggers all sitting on individual stands in the spare room may look very bautique but they take up alot of room so Ive been pondering a couple of Multi racks. They consist of 10 electric and 2 acoustic Basses so Im thinking 2 x 7 slot racks. The acoustics taking up 2 spaces. Now these racks wont be going anywere. Purely for domestic storage. I dont fancy the case style. Id rather have the frame type. Ive found the Chord and Warick Rockstand racks so the question is which one would you recommend that can take acoustic and electric basses thats not too expencive but will last and protect my babies in a small footprint? Also theres the DIY option? A few lengths of piping, some pipe insulation and some screws should do the job? Im guessing its probably not cost effective? cheers in advance A
Got Chromes on 50% of my instruments (Encore P & Yamaha RBX fretless). I love them - but wouldn't have them if I only had one bass. Since they last so long (as long as you dont keep swapping them around to other instruments and breaking the wind like I did once !) then I think they're worth the money.
A
