1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkF7Mq1ZUR0 But what will happen if anyone operates a pedal with them on? It might rip a hole in the fabric of time!
2. I've put a hi-mass on a shorty and it was a vast improvement, mostly because the BBoT-type saddles wandered around a bit under the low tension strings. No change on a 34" sound-wise, but found a big difference for edge-of-hand comfort while pick playing.
3. The last time we played a venue with one of those or singist tripped it with the mic off. Current lead twiddler is an opera singer, so he'd probably set it off by humming!
4. They'll look exactly the same, just with a few 'bedroom dings' and a thick covering of dust from being in their owner's Uncle's loft.
5. Not foreign or ex-pat (but used to be having lived in That England) we know maybe 10 Welsh language numbers but have never performed them all, we tend to start feeling the 'you're pushing it, now' vibe after 4 or 5, even when playing to predominantly 1st language crowds.
6.
It's actually a B2V which has been converted to active. The strap button move is a good idea, keep meaning to move mine in the same way.
The one I owned had this, I tried it both ways and it made no difference to how it behaved.
7. He's literally re-invented the instrument, and the amount of threads on here about weight you'd think folk would be grateful. It's also a valuable memory aid for those tricky unfamiliar numbers. No vision, some people!
8. This started because I have a bolt-on Epi T-Bird here, and didn't like the sound of it at all. Not one bit. Just the most 'bleurgh' sounding thing. (apologies for being so technical) so I did the thing with the 2 j-pickups, a roll of insulating tape and a push-pull volly pot just to see what would happen. Mercifully explosion-free, the experiment was a resounding adequate. I really liked the sound of this in single-coil, proper old-school, fat and aggressive, just like me. In humbucker it sounded pretty much like any other 'bucker out there. This was in the neck position. I thought if I liked it enough, I'll look for ways of acquiring more pickups for the bridge, and of doing it without tape! In the meantime I decided to put the bass back together while I wait for that to happen, but in doing so I seem to have repaired whatever the hell was wrong with it in the first place, sounds good now, so the plot with the pickups goes in the 'hare-brained schemes pending' file. Never did get round to trying them the opposite way round after all, that being the whole point, like!
9.
You could look at the bridge pickup from an early American Deluxe P-Bass, they are a sort of back to back Jazz pickup. Not the current model, that's a normal Jazz pup
Like the Blacktop ones is what I'm thinking, if that's the same thing.
10. I rather like the way they do the pickups in the Modern Player basses, and I've been having thoughts of doing the same sort of thing by basically grinding the lugs off 2 Js and nailing them together. It's this sort of hare-brained scheme that keeps me off the streets where, if I haven't taken all my pills, I might shout at traffic or mistake aircraft for dragons. I digress. The thing is, does it make a difference to the sound, (good/bad/any whatsoever) which way the magnets are pointed? i.e. if they're pulling the pickups together or pushing them away? Pulling together would be much easier to work with, obviously. Would this effect things if they had serial/parallel options as well? (magic magnet waves all flying about in a backways directionly fashion?) Or am I just over analysing, 'cos it's only a bloody bass? Yay, pudding!!!!!
11. Withdrawing as I've just knocked it over and bust a machine head. T*t!
12. Did I mention that at all? I forget things, y'see.
13. Here for your delectation we have a Vintage V4 P-bass what is black. I like the feel and the sound out of this bass, it's just a shame it's not getting used much as I seem to be Mr. 5 string, lately. Bad points amount to a bit of 'nibbling' right on the rear top edge of the headstock where it looks to have been leant up against a rough wall at some time in its life, and that's pretty much it. I have to admit that I'm quite fond of this one, and won't be diluting any brews with tears if it doesn't go anywhere.* £100 delivered. *Which means No, I do NOT want to swap it for any out-of-date games consoles or smart phones, twisted-necked stupid pointy guitars or "sum peddles an fings", a set of wheels for a quad ("whot oly thre neids tiyers" - I sh*t ye not!) a remote control car or an air rifle that you've obviously stolen. All the above has happened in the past month. Ya gotta love FarceBook!! ...and...breathe.....
14. I've the urge for [s]e[/s][s]xperimenting[/s] / [s]generally buggering things up[/s] / a little project, so last bump before the frets get pulled.
15. Bloody marvellous. I bet libraries make for a fantastic 'dead space', too. Noted for utterly unusable future reference!
16. Besides, everyone knows that P-basses really are the most versatile. When sitting down, simply flip them over for a handy writing or impromptu work surface. The offset bouts of a J can be unstable, and the centre section of a Thunderbird and the curve of a hollow-body rule this out altogether. Leo really thought about these things, y'know.
17. Don't forget to take into account the universal constant - 'During any given performance the number of people who give a monkeys what the bass sounds like is 1.' I think it may have been Einstein who said that, but I might also be very wrong,
18. That's what people say when I start playing. Audere. I'm already wearing a coat.
19. Genre specific, certainly, as I'm not too sure I want to hear Max Cavalera head up a gospel choir or Smokey Robinson bring out an Oi! album, but if I have to pick one singer it would be Aretha all the way.
20. Threaded saddles upgrade bump! (they were there all along, I just forgot to mention them)
