5. Nigel: "These go to eleven" Marty: "Why don't they just make the amps one louder and call that ten?" Nigel: after a pause "but these go to eleven" And another classic... Vim Fuego, Bad News: I could play "Stairway to Heaven" when I was twelve. Jimmy Page didn't actually write it until he was twenty-two. I think that says quite a lot.
6. Can I just say Bollards? Seriously though..... bollards, bollards, bollards !!!!! Well done 2wheeler! [Edited by moderators !]
7. This one... Owned by my brother who is 'Malcolm' in DC79 a Bon Scott era AC/DC tribute. You've got a thump the bloody thing to get any noise but going through an overdriven Marshall 100 superbass and 4x12 with celestion greenbacks, it is Mr Young Sr himself!!
8. You could always DI (with a box) before the effects and then mike the cab or use the di from the head
9. Throw a post over to Talkbass or even the EBMM forum. You'll get loads of replies. HTH
10. Steve Harris And Michael Anthony.... because he's always drunk!!!
11.
take legal advice NOW...
+1 on that.... IP addresses left all over the place which shouldn't be too difficult to trace!
12. Everyone who asked for a pm should have got one. Everything still very much available. Listening to offers but NOT for the 30th.... that price is set in stone!
13. Saw them last year with JSS in London. Great night. Classic songs superbly played!!
14.
If I remember right it takes 10x the watts to get a doubling of actual volume (someone correct me if I'm wrong!) What more watts really give you is extra headroom so you're less likely to overload the amp if you have to push it harder.
IIRC it's not about the watts.... more about spl's. An crease of 3db is effectively double the volume and would require roughly double the wattage of your amp to achieve this if cranked. I'll try to put this another way... If your 300 watt amp is cranked and measuring 130db at 1 metre, to double the volume you would need a six hundred watt amp (and the speakers to match) to achieve 133db at 1 metre. I think thats correct.... correct ME if I'm wrong!! As for amp choice... good advice about going for the most expensive you can afford to your ears. My choice would be Markbass, obviously.
15. Obviously, no-one wants my SR30th!! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11692&hl=
16. You may need a little gentle 'modding' around the pick up but should be a (tight) fit.
17. Bump time! A few new pics of the 30th... Everything is still for sale except the Tokai which was bought a few weeks ago.
18. Cracking bass at a brilliant price!! If I wasn't selling I'd be all over this.
19. Now I'm REALLY confused!
20.
My opinion (for what it's worth) is that it's a free market, and that goes for opinions (some of which are learned, others less so) and to prices. It comes back I think to a basic divide; on one side the members who like a very moderated environment, like to be told what to post and where... And others who value a more free environment. Discounting the obviously abusive posts I can't see the problem with discussing a bass and it's value. Most of the discussion in this thread has been about Rickys, rather than the posted asking price of this example. Interesting points have come up... To me this is a discussion forum, not a free ads site. If someone has an opinion, why on earth not hear it. Who benefits from deleting opinion?
Totally agree on the whole David... the point I was trying to make is about manners. If you personally think a seller has overpriced would you post it on the forum or PM the seller, allowing him the chance to listen to your concerns and possibly amend the price. Most posters on here who are experienced in the second hand/vintage market would recognise a rip-off sale straight away and the Mods have stated that they will take the necessary actions against such sales. This sale appears to be moderately (in everyone's opinion) overpriced and not an attempt to scam anyone. He's now invited offers, so those genuinely interested have a chance to get a great bass at the price they feel warrants their interest.
21. Back in the days of bassworld I was selling a MIM Jazz, newish with case, strap, straplocks, new strings, extra strings etc and posted was I believed was a fair and honest price. Before I knew it, forumites were flashing up posts knocking the price all over the place. It got a bit heated as I requested such comments to be PM'ed and we could discuss their concerns. Instead they chose to publically berate my selling methods. The bass sold a few days later for the asking price and the buyer was very happy with his package. Those knocking the price were not even in the market for a MIM Jazz so it was pretty much a waste of effort on their part. Makes me wonder who many of the price knockers on here are actually in the market for a 4001? I can only presume 'none' as they would have PM'ed the seller to negotiate a deal. Personally, Ricks are not my bag although I can appreciate their beauty and unique tonal qualities. Is this one overpriced? Possible, maybe not. What I won't do, however, is trample all over this thread spouting my 'valued' opinion. Good luck with the sale Andy, and welcome to Basschat.

23. Sterling Ball mentioned something about the licence not being renewed on the Ernie Ball forum a while back. For what reason I don't know.
