1. The other day I had an opportunity to rig up my full PA in an empty building and listen to a few albums really f***in loud. There's something therapeutic about listening to music at high volumes, especially if you know that there's no-one else there and you're not bothering anyone. You can really get lost in the music and you can understand how music works at those sorts of levels. You can't really get that kind of connection through headphones. I had the subs going and I could feel the bassdrum pounding in my chest and the bass was shaking the room! Felt amazing and I'm really glad that I had the chance to have a listen to some great music. Highlight was listening to the amazing new album from Waking Aida.
2. Paul responded to a wanted ad of mine and then a couple of days later I received a lovely EHX Bass Muff Pi in the post! Well packaged and very happy with his comms and friendliness throughout. A recommended trader! Alex
3. BB1025 is a completely different instrument, it being passive and with PJ pups. The Sire is active and has Jazz pups. Personally I'd prefer the BB as I know how good the B string is and because I prefer passive basses anyway.
4. Have just re-read and yes, you already know! Apologies for the condescendingness!
5.
Purely speculative at this point, but if I wanted to add a second 4 ohm Barefaced retro 2x10, what amps are out there that could handle it? I know I could run the cabs in series for 8 ohms and ANY amp could handle it, but i need real welly here! Talking 500 watts and above. My fav amp of all time is the pre-EVO Ashdown ABM so top of my list of possibilities is the ABM900. Second favorite amp is the Orange Terror Bass, which I've owned twice, and it could handle the cabs in series for 500 watts at 8 ohms (there's also the rarer 1000 watt version that would do 900 watts at 8ohms). Can anyone suggest anything else? Budget would be under £400, new or used - I know Thomann still have some Orange TB500s in stock.
Just to clarify, you'll need an amp that goes down to 2ohm if you want to use two 4ohm cabs. The vast majority of amps out there will only go to 4ohm through 1x4ohm cab or 2x8ohm cabs. You run the risk of damaging your amp if you hook up two 4ohm cabs when the amp can only handle 4ohms.
6. GT-10's are really really rare. Just give it time.
7. Depends on how you interpret the songs I suppose. You can play Crossroads ultra-soft or you could play CC Rider dark and swampy. A band I dep for play Robert Cray's 'Your Good Thing Is About To End' quite aggressively and it rocks! They rein in the swinging-ness, play it a little straighter and it really goes.
8. Ooh, Fodera P bass! I'd rather be gifted something of outstanding quality on a special occasion. I understand the desire for vintage and/or rare, it's just not for me. if I asked my other half to buy me something that was clapped out and 50/60 years old and had half of its parts replaced she'd think I was an idiot.
9. Yes, Ampeg PF350 will be fine used in this way.
10. I think anything without valves would work wouldn't it? I know I've used my Gallien-Krueger RB400 and Ampeg PF500 in this way.
11. Wow, really smart! I always thought Mocha was a solid colour? Looks great!

14. I always thought that, in pub world, uplighting is a much more effective way of lighting the band rather than attempting to downlight where there's low ceilings. Often it's much more cost effective too; a couple of well placed par cans either side of the drum kit and behind the backline looks great and doesn't get in anyone's eyes.
15. Spend money on lessons, not gear.
16. I wonder if you were famous enough if Warwick or Musicman would do a Rickenfaker?
17. Send a private message to Basschat Member 'Bilbo'. I believe he's in the area and is a top player!
18. Yep, likewise! I always have the gain on half and use the volume to suit the room. Didn't really like the tone with the gain fully off; I've gotten used to a touch of grit I think.
19. Oh dearrr! Always hold on and wait for BC to come up with the goods! I know of people that have waited for years til the right thing turns up here.
20. Funnily enough i was thinking of yours earlier Such a lovely instrument
21.
You'd call this hip-hop? Or even rap? I'd call it neither. It's made for radio, urban sh*te with hip-hop leanings perhaps. This is a million miles away from hip-hop, such as A Tribe Called Quest or Jurassic 5.
Yes I would. There's room for all of those acts under the Hip Hop umbrella. And I didn't say it was rap. And to be honest I find your assertion that "made for radio" music is "sh*te" quite rude actually. Who put you in charge of telling people what music's crap or not?
22.
Kanye West is a talentless piece of s**t. The end.
No, I think he's just lost his way a bit. Dropout's an incredible album. It's essential listening for anyone that likes hip-hop. I suspect he'll take a break and then come back in a few years with a groundbreaking album.
23. My technique is a combination of muting with my fretting hand and palm muting. Say for example I'm picking the A string, I'll mute the E with my palm/wrist and I'll mite the D and G with the fingers of my fretting hand. I've also just noticed that when I play with a pick, i mute all of the strings at the bridge with my wrist and non-pick holding fingers. I rarely hit the string with the intention of having it ring out, I just use varying degrees of pressure of muting on the other strings. I used to play with my picking hand strumming all over the place, but now my wrist is almost always firmly planted at the bridge.
