1. Just different factors of an instruments flexibility. Sometimes you'll want an active sound and sometimes you'll want a passive sound. One's neither better or worse than the other, just different.
2. Hello all, I'm in the Peak District for weekend and I was wondering if anyone knew of anything interesting going on in its towns or surrounding cities. I'll be based in Matlock then Bakewell. Happy to drive out of the actual PD. Sport, music, art - whatever. Just need something to make the evenings interesting! Cheers all
3. Get thee to BassDirect in Leamington Spa too. Well worth the drive up the M40.
4. Yep, downsized to one bass and one combo. I have a couple more in bits in the loft but I don't count those. Funnily enough, this happened roughly at about the same time I developed a rather serious case of PA gas
5. Hit the phone. Identify local pubs that put on music and get calling. Keep calling until you've got dates in the diary. But it's hard. My last band I was on the phone every evening for 2 weeks getting in touch with maybe 5 LLs a night and getting nowhere. We also spammed all the pubs with an email that had links to our FB. We got our gigs through these emails mainly. I think most bands just get lucky. Like a mate will be putting on a beer festival and then the pub will have you back and then once you've got gigs in the diary then it's easier to find work. Best of luck.
6. Yeah I've had mine for 5 years now and still in great nick. However, they're terrible to wear on your back. The straps are thin and weedy and they're not designed very well all for the purposes of wearing on your back. For something that you'll wear a lot you need to spend more money. Padded straps, back support etc all cost money.
7. When I was younger and used to play in metal bands, our drummer used to do blast beats with rim shots. Utterly deafening but sounded sick as chips. Back then we were just obsessed with making as much racket as possible!
8. Would it not be possible to remove the binding and reapply it afterwards? It'd be a nightmare to refinish around the binding too, wouldn't it?
9. Sold my PA rig to Chris and the whole thing couldn't have been smoother. Money was quickly paid and a date for delivery was agreed nice and fast. Lovely guy, and I look forward to meeting again sometime! Cheers Alex
10.
Blow him out.... It's outrageous that he expects you to lift a finger. You pay for him for his services, his PA and his expertise. Unless his contract states you will be roadies for him, sit back and let him get on with it. He will let you do it all day long and think you are the best thing since sliced bread, untill you drop something, or cause an injury to yourself or someone around you....then your on your own... I think this bloke is another one thinks that he is doing the band a favour, and you can't do without him..
+1 And there's hundreds of decent sound guys out there, don't worry about pissing him off.
11. I found it harder to control my plucking hand than get pitch right. Subtle differences in playing are magnified with fretless and I sounded horrible for a long time because I just couldn't get a consistent sound over all the strings. Wonderfully expressive. It's like a lot of things though; easy to pick up, hard to master!
12. How good is the PA? If the PA's not of great quality then it's unlikely you'll get the tone that's in your head even if you do buy loads of expensive tone shaping pedals. Most PA tops aren't really designed for full range instruments, such as bass. It's likely that if you've got a moulded plastic PA top that's off the floor and has no reinforcement from nearby walls/corners then your tone will really suffer. Even more so if you're not running a sub to amplify those lovely low frequencies that the tops simply won't be able to reproduce.
13. Is the underside suede-y or polished? I love leather straps but hate the way that suede drags my t-shirt around! Edit: never mind, just read the ad properly!
14. Oh dear, must be a mistake because he says in the description he bought it for £280!
15. Personally I wouldn't worry at all about compensating for lost lows. I'd cut everything under 80hz so that the punters have a chance of hearing the bass drum. The magic of bass is in the low mids. As long as they project well enough then there's no problem. Dont forget, you only need to be as loud as the drum kit, which is going to be unamplified on this occasion. To answer the OP, your rig will be fine.
16. This combo is of outstanding quality, with plenty of tone shaping and power to boot. I used mine for well over 100 pub gigs and it never missed a beat and I was never left wanting more power. DI sounds great too. If I wasn't so satisfied with my Rumble100, I'd buy this. Whoever buys this in for a real treat as they deliver on so many levels. GLWTS
17. Definitely can't risk being uncool.
18. I actually prefer slap with the P pup solo'd. The J blended in sounds too aggressive for me. I just practised and practised until the volume of all my techniques are more or less the same volume. Luckily for me, I have a robust finger style which means that I can use quite a hard attack for pick playing and slap and maintain a uniform volume for all.
19. There's two I wished I hadn't sold, but I know that if I still had them I wouldn't be playing them very much. Firstly, my '84 Ibanez Blazer. Bought it off FlatEric for a pittance. Refinished it, played it to death and loved every minute of it. I genuinely still don't know why I sold it. I think maybe I needed cash at the time. Secondly, my Yamaha RBXJM1. A really special instrument but I didn't know it at the time and traded it poorly.
20. They certainly do! Will make sure your bass drum is heard and felt miles away.

All knobs and switches present, is in outstanding condition. The SRM450's are in terrific condition having been bagged from new. These go super loud and are very articulate in their reproduction of higher frequencies. They have a high-pass button at 80hz and a mid contour switch which is perfect for when you're playing recorded music at volume. These are the V2 models. The SWA1501 is a classic sub capable of pushing massive lows a very long way indeed. Is tatty on all edges and corners but structurally sound and in full working condition. Have used this with the SRM450's for a few discos and the sound quality is awesome. Serious room shaking power on tap with this sub. No trades. I'm based in St. Albans and would prefer collection. However, I am happy to deliver within about 100 miles for a sensible contribution towards petrol. Delivery further afield is possible, but would need to negotiate renumeration for time as well as petrol. Please get in touch with any questions you may have! Alex
22. I had a 6-string version of this for many years and used it mercilessly. Highly recommended! GLWTS
