1. We use an old PA consisting of JBL bass bins, mids and tops through a cheap Behringer mixer powered by 2 x Yamaha amps. There is also 4 foldback monitors, one for each of us and although it all sounds great, humping it is a mother! We really must get some lighter gear!
2. Never seen a cleaner one. GLWTS Chris, it's lovely and a bargain!
3. Most important thing is what your student wants to get out of the tuition. If they want to learn to play covers for fun or in a band situation, probably best not to start with harmonics. I know as this happened to me Knowing theory and being able to impart it in a fun and understandable way is a neat trick, but very rewarding when your student starts to 'get It'. I have found that for a complete novice (no musical background) TAB is useful to start with to actually play some music so they can feel they have made some progress early on. You can fill in the theory as you go.
4. Love mine, skinny frets and shallow neck make it super easy to play!
5. If this one is anything like my one, the new owner will be chuffed to buggery. Mine is the best playing/feeling/looking non-fender fender I've owned (if you follow)
6. Talk to Mark at Limelight and spec it yourself. REALLY happy with mine and better than the '79 I had or the 2009 US or the MIM Blacktop or the.......you get the idea
7. My Axe of choice. Simple, iconic, honest, reliable.
8. TC Polytune, considered to be one of the best. £75 quid ish
9. I concur with all of the above. Mark is a nice bloke and will execute your instructions well. I was going to go light relic but then thought why not go the whole hog and I love the really worn look.
10. I use the Stageclix pack - no compander. High end at £400 but fantastic bit of kit!
11. I asked him to put some on for me. Added a modest amount to the overall price and nicely reliced too
12. Had a Vintage Modified Jazz - Nice. Had a Vintage Modified P - Not nice. Have a CV Precision - V nice!
13. And another one to add to the fold. My '63P in Burgundy Mist heavy relic Met Mark in the services in Tiverton to pick up. Great bloke, very friendly and most importantly makes great Basses! As others have mentioned, this one feels instantly familiar. Very comfortable neck, low action and the main draw...very very resonant! Fantastic bell like E string. Can't wait to gig it. Cheers Mark. http://s1168.photobucket.com/user/LemonCello/library/Limelight%2063P?sort=3&page=1
14. Got a tab for Reelin in the years from Songsterr...nothing like the original so paid $1.29 for the original Becker/Fagan part. Also looking at Steve Harley - Make me Smile and Allman Bros - Good Clean Fun. Love the Becker bass lines and enjoying playing Peg, Josie and Deacon Blues for fun
15. Played Fagin's Ale & Chop House in Taff's Well Cardiff last night. Been going to this real ale boozer that also does a mean steak for many years on and off but first gig last night there. Old fashioned low beamed ceiling and flag stone floor and quite cosy (small!). Clientele generally 'older' so our set went down a treat, lots of dancing and foot tapping and attentive listening! Although it was like a sauna in there it was such a pleasure to play to that type of crowd. And as we were packing away, a load of party food turned up - bonus! We will definately be back!
16. "Music is the food of love....and scales are the food of music" - Paul Tortellier, french Cellist. Knowledge of scales is useful if playing from Chord charts.
17. Hey Paul, I might part trade with your G&L and a bit of cadbury's smash my way. I don't get on with Maple Boards so the Cabronita would be a no I'm afraid. What d'you reckon?
