Say what you like about Fenders but they have stood the test of time. Watch any edition of Jools Holland and in the majority of bands on with a bassist, that bassist is playing a Fender. Why? they are iconic, have a lengthy back story, and they are well, just cool I guess? As has already been said, a fair few of them have 'iffy build quality, but I've heard that the newer Rickenbackers have also had their fair share of criticism in this regard. As for me, I've owned a fair few Fenders, mostly P basses which suit my big paws better than a Jazz and I like their honesty. Just volume and tone for example. In my experience, in the ones I have owned, both newish and old P Basses have had their issues. By far the nicest P Bass I currently own isn't a Fender, but one made out of parts by Limelight. To me, everything works - the neck profile, clarity of tone, build quality, the way it plays and sounds. It really is very very good. I've just bought a G&L L2500 Tribute which I like very much by the way but my main squeeze is definately the Limelight!

Pick ups in my LL '63 P died unexpectedly a couple of weeks ago. Phoned Mark who sent me a new set straight away and paid for my guitar tech to swap them out. All done just in time for a gig last Sat. Still loving the Limelight, it's punchy as hell

I've just scored the fiver version, swamp ash body. Really liking it

I've had a lot of P basses including a 70's. My Limelight beats them all hands down (leaving the reliced looks apart) and was cheaper than most of the others. I know it's not a Fender but it's the most Fendery non-Fender I've owned. And if it had Gibson on the headstock....well that would be silly wouldn't it? By the way...I also REALLY rate my £200 Squier CVP!
I don't see how that can happen... was it a connection failure or what?
My guitar tech had them out after checking everything else, jack, pots, cap etc etc. Put a multimeter on them - no output at all. I ordered a Fender Blacktop P from Soundslive last year. When it came the bridge pup was dead! Must just be my luck!

The PUP's in my Limelight '63P died at a gig last wknd Phoned Mark and he was very good about it. He will send a new set of relice'd pup's and I'll return the buggered ones. He'll also refund the cost of my guitar tech to swap them out. Great customer service!

Played the last of a 4 gig run at the Porthcawl Hotel Sat night. Appreciative crowd and lots of positive comments and were back next year as house band

Thanks for the tips guys. I've got a fiver on the way so hopefully I'll take to it and problem solved. If not then.....the notes below bottom E I'll push up the octave. Cheers

So I bought a Behringer pitch shifter (not wanting to spend loads without having tried one out) so I can just use the one Bass instead of down tuning another for one song. In short, it's crap. I know, I know I didn't spend much so what can I expect! I've heard the Eventide works well, but at £400 it ain't cheap and is enough to buy a decent fiver (which is what I'm doing). Anyone got a view, do any of them actually work well? Cheers LC PS, Do any of the multi-effects do this - Boss GT10b for example?

My band is on the pub/club circuit and £200 is about the going rate as most places get that from the Brewery for ents. Anything more than that comes out of the pubs own coffers and we all know that the pub is a dying breed. Must admit that the thought of going out this time of year from a warm front room to some random boozer with just enough room for a duo let alone a 4 piece with a sizeable PA is not an appealing one....BUT...once the gear is humped and set up and IF the crowd are appreciative, get up and dance and give you positive comments afterwards, the £50 each we get doesn't seem at all bad seeing as we've all had a hoot. I figure I've put the time in practising, bought the gear, auditioned and got into a band and a gig is kinda the end result, the payoff (don't mean financially). What isn't so palatable is the gig feeding frenzy on Facebook. Some peeps appear to be prepared to sell their granny for a gig! Anyway, I'm happy enuff atm

We use an old PA consisting of JBL bass bins, mids and tops through a cheap Behringer mixer powered by 2 x Yamaha amps. There is also 4 foldback monitors, one for each of us and although it all sounds great, humping it is a mother! We really must get some lighter gear!

Most important thing is what your student wants to get out of the tuition. If they want to learn to play covers for fun or in a band situation, probably best not to start with harmonics. I know as this happened to me Knowing theory and being able to impart it in a fun and understandable way is a neat trick, but very rewarding when your student starts to 'get It'. I have found that for a complete novice (no musical background) TAB is useful to start with to actually play some music so they can feel they have made some progress early on. You can fill in the theory as you go.

Talk to Mark at Limelight and spec it yourself. REALLY happy with mine and better than the '79 I had or the 2009 US or the MIM Blacktop or the.......you get the idea

Need a new tuner... recommendations?

TC Polytune, considered to be one of the best. £75 quid ish -
I concur with all of the above. Mark is a nice bloke and will execute your instructions well. I was going to go light relic but then thought why not go the whole hog and I love the really worn look.

I use the Stageclix pack - no compander. High end at £400 but fantastic bit of kit!
