Welcome fella, nice to have you here! There should be a bit of a South Wales bass playing get together in the not too distant in Cardiff. Bring your gear, have a noodle and generally bore each other with aimless bass banter! Cheers, LC

Just had a look at your sked Bob - looks like it's Llandudno then! I noticed you have a night in the De Montford Hall, I did the Elgar Cello Concerto there about 15 years ago when I was in Orchestra mode, lovely venue and a fantastic acoustic!

Wasn't Andy slung out the band for a short while? I'm sure I read that somewhere. And Jonny Marr got fed up with the Mozza wanting to do Cilla Black numbers? That right? Anyway, I've become a fan of Andy Rouke having been blown away by the Rockpalast gig. It's great when you get a nugget of brilliance every now and then! Good luck with the KB tour Bob, I haven't seen your Sked yet but count me in if you get to Cardiff. Cheers, LC
I hate that Trout thing. It irritates me.
Great to play on the 'Cello, but I prefer the Quintet with two 'Cellos, possibly the greatest piece of chamber music of all time! Certainly Schubert at his finest!
Andy is very under rated, to say the least and brilliantly inventive. The bassline to Heaven knows I'm miserable now is a wonderful example of his musicality; it's probably my fave bassline of his. The gig on Sky Arts was probably the one from Rockpalast, Hamburg in 1984; it's been shown a few times. Did you notice he played in F# Lemoncello (each string up a whole step) - I've never really got to the bottom of why he did that..... John Porter, formerly bassist with Roxy Music produced a lot of the early Smiths stuff. Might explain the prominent bass in the mix; he apparently always insisted Andy put new strings on before each recording, for maximum punch and brightness. It shows in the recordings.
.......I've just noticed your 'footer' Bob - not just my ears that are defective!! And checked out your website - Fantastic. When are you in Cardiff again?
I'm a massive Smiths (and Rourke) fan. One of my favourite players. Someone on here is in a really good Smiths tribute band - I noticed a link in their sig, and checked them out. I think they were called The Smiths Indeed - very authentic.
Thanks, I'll check it out!

I did dabble with effects a little while ago and have gone back to my preferred clean sound now. A bass should sound like one I think. 'Miserable' was fab, inventive and musical with the Bass playing an equal part. I've got a few Smiths albums including Morrisey's newish one Years of Refusal, which I really rate - very rocky, but still unmistakably 'him'.
I always thought Andy Rourke was an excellent bass player - inventive with a great sound and a great feel . Very important to the sound of that band , too ; the bass was always way up in the mix on those Smiths records .
You've hit the nail on the head there. Very forward in the mix and weaving in and out of the lead line, very very musical I thought. No leaping about stage histrionics either, mind you the Mozza did enough of that for everyone! I'm gonna look out for other stuff of his.

Cheers, the name does ring a bell. Very/moderately well known?

Caught an old recording of The Smiths on Sky Arts 1 the other night. Morrissey's voice gets on my tits after a while but I was quite mesmerised by the Bass player (whoever it was). I'm gonna get caned for that coz it's probably someone well known isn't it? My point is that he was playing a Precision through an old Trace rig no effects of any sort and it sounded superb. His playing was also very 'melodic' fitting with Jonny Mar's twangy Rickenbacker lead line perfectly - loved it. So who was the Bass player? The gig I saw must have been late 80's judging by the hair do's but I might be wrong! LC

Hi Sarah, yeah she does play with the WNO. I did the Trout Quintet with her a few years back up in Harlech and I think she's strictly classical!
Ahem Lemoncello my dear friend.... I'm not a bloke..... But I had great fun playing what was your fretless tonight I've made a few trouble free purchases! I also had issues with one guy. And I'm ashamed to say I did agree to buy something and had to back out, but I did back out quickly (due to being given some free gear from a friend instead) I would say, as a rule, this is a great place to "do business" but there are always exceptions.
Erm....crawls away with tail firmly between legs Profuse apologies Debs, I forgot about the Fretless -

I made the mistake of holding my Markbass rig for a newbie for over a month, you live and learn! As above tho, each 'actual' transaction I've made on here has been very straightforward and I've really enjoyed meeting the buyer/seller (usually in the good old motorway services!). They have all been top blokes! -

Erm.......no!

Hiya FNG and welcome! I was lucky enough to get to New Orleans for Mardi Gras a few years ago. Did one too many hurricanes in Pat O'Briens bar but did meet a rather foxy chick from Biloxi. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I had the cash!

Thanks for the Pm's guys - still available. Just to be clear, it is probably unrealistic to send the entire rig by post/courier as I do not have boxes and I'd worry about it getting to it's destination in one piece! As I've already indicated, I'm willing to drive it a couple a hundred miles max which would relate to a fair reach down to the other side of London or up to Nottingham/Peterborough, down to Exeter. If you were prepared to drive a bit then that would cover most of the country I reckon. Straight cash sale or trade/part trade for a Bass, something .'fendery and precisony' or what have you? Cheers, LC -
What do you ask when advertising for a vocalist?

We've just struck lucky in finding a fantastic 20 year old who A. Can really sing B. Likes our set and has learned it real quick and C. FITS IN, which is the most important thing. We had to wait a while and see a few to find the right one but Katie has come up trumps. We did audition a guy who had done the Europe thing and up and down this country who had a 10K PA WTF. He also sang really well but was a bit full of himself and we all thought that he'd try and take over. The most difficult band position to fill imo but good luck!
