1. I bought a P pickup from Neil - excellent comms, item well packed and fast delivery. Many thanks!
2. Bought a set of strings from David - very good comms and the strings were dispatched quickly (and well packed). Many thanks!
3. I surf all the time at work, but technically I'm not meant to. Good thing my boss works a few hundred miles away, really!
4. Just be thankful mine is no longer the peado bear, I say.
5. Sansamp RBI and a Crown XS700. When I bought it the Crown was set up with a bridging cable to run at 1900 watts. I found this didnt give any more real volume than when it's running 700 watts per side and the heat caused it to cut out a lot when pushed so I put it back in stereo mode with a regular cable. So far it's been a good bit of kit, I wouldnt mind something a touch lighter though. Saying that, I once paired the Sansamp with Mr Foxen's old Matamp Quasar 1000 watt power amp to do some troubleshooting and that sounded incredible - so much clean headroom. If I ever see one of those for sale I'll be sorely tempted.
6. Reminds me of a trifle.

SOLD

That's an amazing price for the Spector!
8. I might be, let me know innit.
9. What a bargain!
10. It can indeed, but you've got to make the best of what's available. I'm certainly not quite flush enough to go for Optimas all the time
11. I just thought I'd post as I know there are a few other bassists besides myself who suffer from an allergy to nickel, and as such have switched to Elixer strings - I've been using Elixers for a long time and although they are great strings, my hands have been flaring a bit which confused me as I was under the impression that Elixers were stainless steel with a coating. I emailed Elixer however and they stated:
Hi Wil, Thanks for your interest in Elixir® Strings. The wrap wire used on our bass strings contains nickel plated steel. Thanks and Regards Elixir® Strings W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.
So, as the coating was wearing off I was gradually being exposed to the nickel in the windings. I don't know if this is a new development as I used Elixers in the past without any real problems, but to try and make my hands behave I've now switched to DR Highbeams, which should be nothing but stainless steel. I do like them a lot, so I'll see how things go. Not looking forward to the increased cost of running non coated strings, though
12.
sorry to hi jack the thread but it is relevent, if using 2 x 4 ohm cabs gives you a 2 ohm load, what would 1 x 4 ohm cab and 1 x 8 ohm cab give you?
The formula is (impedance of cab 1 X impedance of cab 2) / (impedance of cab 1 + impedance of cab 2). So, 2.667 ohms (roughly). With cabs that are the same impedance, you'd use the following: impedance of single cab / number of cabs = total impedance So, for instance if you had 3 x 16 ohm cabs (why on earth you would is another matter) you'd get 5.3 ohms (roughly).
13. I have a Warmoth guitar I put together and it's great. Really, really high quality parts. Not cheap, mind.
14. Surf Wax America - Weezer Wouldn't it be Nice - Beach Boys Olympia WA - NOFX (Rancid cover)
15. RADICUS - melodic hardcore/skate punk. Very good! http://www.myspace.com/radicus
16. I've actually raised my action a fair bit recently. I dig in a lot, so with a low action I get a lot of fret clatter. I can still get growl, but my tone is now more "thud". I like it.
17. I use a scourer pad. One of the green ones, maybe with a bit of water on it. Does the trick!
18. I tend to agree with thisnameistaken here - as much as I love a good bass line, I prefer it to be part of a worthwhile bit of music, and I dont think Jamiroquai have really produced anything really exciting since Travelling Without Moving. Coincidentally, Zender's last effort!
19. Would you split? I might be interested in the P pup.
20. I'd probably be interested in the P pickup if you decide to split.
21.
So why don't all bands use stuff they can get in the back of a car and save on transport and road crew costs?
I think you'll find 99% of gigging bands do just that! I'd love two 4x12s, but they're not going to fit in our Peugeot Expert with a drumkit and guitar cabs, so I use a single Schroeder 4x10. It sounds fantastic though so... why go bigger?
22.
OK. I have the USA SVT 2 pro, an Ampeg classic 8x10 cab, Musicman Stingray and USA Fender Precision. A load of sh*t to be sneered at obviously!
Yeah, but my dad is bigger than your dad.
23. Obvious troll is obvious.
24. Horses for ducks? Will you accept a swan?
