1. Well, although the OP has stated his point about as reasonably as Jeremy Clarkson putting a point across to Al Gore, I'm inclined to agree, you can't beat the sound of a valve amp at full tilt. I use a Sansamp/power amp because I want that tone at a fraction of the cost and weight (and it does a fantastic job at that) but I have to admit, if I had a roadie (and the cash), I'd probably still pick the real thing. I do love my current set up though, so I'd be in no rush to do it! I'd probably pick a Mesa 400+, Trace V8 or a Matamp myself though.
2. Too late! I'm spoken for
3. I played one of these recently. I was very impressed! Played like a dream and had a nice woody tone.
4. I use a 1900 watt power amp with a Sansamp. Works a treat! I am intending to switch it down from the bridged output to a mere 700 watts however... just for peace of mind
5.
Just grab some 0000 grade wire wool and run that up and down the neck. That'll take the heavy, stickiness off of the neck and still leave lots of lacquer there. Takes about 30 seconds and makes a world of difference. I nicknamed this a 'satinised' neck and it's an option on every setup I do. Don't use sandpaper or anything other than 0000 grade wire wool as you might do some damage.
My spector has a painted neck, and it does get a bit sticky - would that trick work there too?
6. Maybe the answer is removing the laquer and replacing it with a satin wax finish? Something to seal the wood but that isn't sticky?

My two P's

Nice! Not helping my ever persistant P GAS though.
8. I bought a speakon cable - good comms, and fast delivery. Many thanks Max!
9.
Just for me and Guzzi. Wearing Copeland's outsize shades due to hairspray in the minces accident in the dressing room.
Whenever I see this video I come to the conclusion that The Police were pretty much the coolest band ever.
10. Hello! My band, Dirty Break, are playing at the Tunnels (near Bristol Temple Meads station) tonight with a few other bands in aid of Dog's Friends, a local charity who rehome unwanted dogs. We play pop punk/rock, and we're on about 21:20ish. It's our first gig, too!
11. I played this briefly round Rob's, and it's a beaut. Really nice comfy neck, lovely fretwork, nice and light, and sounded great.
12. I love The Police. I'd probably say my favourite lines are Message in a Bottle (particularly the reggae, staccato line in the chorus), and Dont Stand so Close to Me. Simple playing that fits the songs.
13. I've used multiple sets of Elixers for years on a few different basses, a US standard Jazz, a Status S1, Status S2, BC Rich Mockingbird(s), Ibanez ATK and my current Spector, and have never had any grounding issues/buzz. As mentioned above, if the bass is earthed correctly, it shouldn't be an issue.
14. I dont know if that's the best band name ever or the worst band name ever
15. Probably a Streamer stage 2, they're made of alfezia or something like that. They do sound fantastic
16. When I owned a 1212L, I found it sounded best when pushed, so it does sound to me like maybe you need something a bit less full on. Maybe a single Aguilar GS112 with the option of adding another if you need more volume at any point? Bear in mind the 1212L has quite a mid range "hump" though (apparently) which explains why it sits so well in a loud band mix, but if things are quieter the low mids can dominate a bit. Have you tried using the VPF filter on the markbass?
17. The Purple Chick remix of The Beach Boys - SMiLE. It's a compilation of original beach boys recordings spliced together in the running order of the 2004 Brian Wilson release, with any missing bits filled in from that version. It's very, very good!
18. The Warwick 211 pro is an appalling sounding cab that farts out at the hint of being pushed, IME. I used to use one with a Trace 7215 SMX combo and it sounded terrible.
19. Bought a blanking plate off Gunsfreddy2003 - good communication and very fast delivery - would deal with again
20. I think my 1900 watt power amp might be a touch excessive, but it does mean I can evicerate a donkey at 300 paces using just one cab.
21. Try an over the counter, mild steroid creme like eumovate if it's angry looking. A little goes a long way.
22. In that case, I cant imagine it would be the strings. You'll probably need to check that the wiring in the bass is all connected ok and that there is a solid ground wire connecting your bridge to earth.
23. Well, I'm allergic to nickel strings and use Elixers, but I still have to make sure my hands are moisturised and they still occasionally flare up - I think this may be down to the fact that 99% of basses have nickel silver frets and chrome hardware contains nickel too. Hot practice room = sweat, and that makes for flare ups if you make contact with any of that stuff. Even when I cut all nickel content out of my strings, hardware and everything else I occasionally get flakey/raw hands though - the best advice really is to treat it with moisturiser before it gets to the point where your skin cracks, as infection makes things 100 times worse. When my hands get really bad, I use fucibet steroid creme and that normally sorts them out in a few days.
