Elixers do go a bit furry, especially if you use a pick, but it doesnt seem to affect the tone. They do last ages and sound good. I tend to find after 6 months or so they lose a bit of definition (I'm sure that despite the coating keeping the dirt out they'll still eventually suffer from metal fatigue) but not enough to warrent changing them (not at £35 a set + £5 for a B string, anyway!)

Is it me or does that Jazz sound a bit... muddy? The Bee Gees quip made me laugh out loud, mind.

I dont care what I'm referred to as, but I do see myself as a musician, in that I can pick up almost any instrument and make music on it. Woodwind excepted.

I had a Schroeder 1212L and it was a great cab, and it was stonkingly loud [u]for it's size[/u]. Like Bill says, if you want loud and low, you need a bigger box. I switched to a 410L as although the 1212L was more than loud enough for my old ska band, in my current rock/punk band I wanted to fill the room a bit more. The 410L is perfect for that, and although the box is undersized for a 4x10 it's bloody loud. It probably lacks some low end extension as a result when pushed but nothing I'll miss in a rock band - it sounds beautiful in the mix and it's got loads of thump/punch. One to consider, anyway!

A late 70's Avon Grabber copy, with sliding pickup. Bought in a car boot sale for £20. I still feel robbed.

Before I was enlightened about the differences between instrument and speaker cables, I used a pair of very cheap patch leads to run my old Little Mark 2 to my cabs for about 2 years! Never had a problem. They did get a bit warm, mind.

Mr Cetera, Mr Cetera! As a man who owns a lot of Spectors, how do you rate the EMG-HZ pickup/SD preamp combo from the lower end Spectors compared to the "proper" EMGs + tonepump combo on the higher end models? Is there much in it?
