Seems to be pretty much 50/50 - I'm suprised, but somewhat relieved that it's not just me who doesnt see the point for live use.

Streetlight can't really be called ska these days though - they tend to throw in calypso, funk, all sorts. Jamaican ska and modern 3rd/4th wave ska really are different genres tied togther by skanking guitar, so I can relate to liking one and not the other.

Always guitar. I dont write songs often, but when I do it just sort of happens. Bass always goes on last, as without a chord progression layed down I dont have anything to weave it around.

I've had a few people message me with offers but it's still for sale. I'm going to amend my price to £350 + postage, firm (I paid £400 + postage for this cab myself less than a year ago, so although I appriciate they've been going on here for peanuts recently, I'd rather keep it than sell it for less than that). I don't really want to sell it, because it's awesome, but I have a one in, one out rule so it's got to go.

I dont have one unfortunately, but have you considered using an electric and a small combo? IME it should sit just as nicely in the mix as an electro acoustic (I think to really get a proper acoustic bass sound, you need a double bass!) with the right EQ

A few years ago it seemed every man and his dog had a compressor in their chain - even people who dont tend to use effects boards (like myself). Now whenever I see a live band or take a peek into a practice room I rarely see them in use - has the official bass player's effect of choice fallen out of favour? Personally, I never get on with them live - I like dynamics! I do use them when recording vocals and guitars though.

Hi, I'm not sure of the age to be honest, I've owned it since late last year and the previous owner had it for around 2 years though. I'm based in Bradley Stoke, not too far from you really - welcome to come and try it if you like (I doubt the neighbours would be happy if we cranked it though ). Another option (if you did want to take it) is that I'm working in Cardiff on Tuesday next week if you're able to get into the city centre.

I'll have a new cab incoming soon so although it pains me I'll need to shift this. One in, one out... It's a 4ohm 1212L. Fantastic little cab, which I'd say is the nicest sounding cab I've ever owned thus far. It's not cosmetically perfect, there are some chips in the rhino finish and it's missing the knob for the tweeter attenuator (but you can still adjust the tweeter by turning the shaft). I don't currently have any pics so I hope Finbar doesn't mind me linking to his original for sale thread which does have some pictures of the cosmetic imperfections: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=68228&hl=1212l Soundwise this is a very versatile beast - it has tons of punch and cuts through a mix beautifully. It's a very loud box for the size and it's very sensitive - I've been running it with just 300 watts and it's louder than a Marshall 4x12 I compared it to at our practice rooms. It's probably not the cab for you if you want a dubby, loose vintage tone as it's very focused and tight sounding. Did I mention it's punchy? It comes with a nice padded cover too. Oh yeah, and it's light. 42lbs/19kg - an easy one hand carry. £350 + postage, firm.

If anyone would like to interview Cass Lewis, I think I'd marry them. Very good interview!
I always use 3 fingers on my right hand so the downbeat is on a different finger each time... as long as its consistant though I don't really think about it and yes.. Steve Harris only uses 2 fingers apparently.. peace C
Same as me. It tends to vary a lot though if I'm raking or string skipping, I just sort of "feel it" out though. If I think about it too much I end up tying myself in a knot! RMIR MIRM IRMI is my usual pattern for 8th notes. I use MIRMI MIRMI when we break out the NOFX drumbeat though and that works a treat too!

Coolio. I do really like the form factor of these cabs, so providing they can provide adaquate volume and midrange from a 300 watt head to keep up with a really loud band I might well be interested... I always turn tweeters off so I'm not after tsssssssssssssst, but I do like a fair bit of grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. The thing about the 1212L is its so sensitive I can get really loud with 300 watts, the only thing I'm worried about with this is I've heard the compact for instance needs a lot of juice to hit the same sort of SPL levels. Of course, the main question I have is - is it still for sale?

It's a lovely bass, I don't blame you!

They were really overengineered apparently. This thread on Finnbass about Oxblood's Magnum project is quite an interesting read, as it goes into a fair bit of detail about what made the Magnum stand out from the crowd: http://www.finnbass.com/showthread.php?t=5435
