1. Wow! I'd never heard of this model before. Looks like Modulus produced the necks on these? Very nice.
2. Nice to see bass guitar represented on kids TV and not simply referred to as a big guitar!
3. Status should be able to supply you with a matching D tuner. I'd recommend emailing Rob and Dawn at Status, they're very helpful
4. If it had one more string I'd be seriously troubled.
5. None taken I'm a shoot first, ask questions later sort of person when it comes to DIY... much to the detriment of said decal.
6. Yep, ebay. Bear in mind that waterslide decals are a bitch to apply correctly. I totally ruined mine, ended up taking it off and leaving the headstock bare.
7. That looks like a beautifully put together instrument. Very nice!
8. I'm quite heavy handed with my fingerstyle. I find too low an action to be unworkable with my technique, so I tend to have it set medium high. If you're not keen on raising your action then you may want to try plucking nearer the bridge as the string tension is higher there, resulting in less string oscillation and less chance of fret clatter. As others have mentioned, ensuring that your amp is loud enough will mean you dig in less to get the volume you want.
9. £350 for a Lakland Skyline? I don't know much about Laklands, but that sounds like a bloody bargain.
10. For stamina and consistency I'd recommend playing 16ths, and perhaps playing 4/8 notes per string at gradually increasing tempos. You can give your left hand a work out at the same time by playing something like: ------------------------------------------------------1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1-------------------------------------- ------------------------------------1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1------------------2-3-4-5-5-4-3-2-------------------- ------------------1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1-------------------------------------------------------2-3-4-5-5-4-3-2- 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Etc etc etc. I say practice groups of four as playing triplets tends to come naturally with 3 fingers, but playing groups of 4 evenly can be tricky, especially when you up the tempo. Work on making sure each note is even in volume and attack (for this reason, it's important to start slow and gradually build up the speed). I tend to use ring middle index then repeat it, so each time I have a different finger playing the first note in the bar. I've played like this for so long it feels natural now but it can take a bit of getting used to, especially when string skipping. Practice makes perfect!
11. That's a bargain. I used to own one of those heads and it sounded fantastic.
12.
How did you watch the video? This video is no longer available because the YouTube account associated with this video has been closed.
I searched youtube for Labi Siffre. The first post mentions it's a madness tune, so it had to be this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XftXrk32TUE
13. Very reminicent of the bass sound on Pet Sounds, so I'm inclined to agree. Lovely.
14.
Make it so...
It's been deleted?! We must find those responsible!
15.
Or a Status Energy?
I think the Energy basses were all headed. The 3000 had a similar looking knob arrangement though.
16. You learn something new every day
17. Well, that particular bass would sound like this, I think it would have been used on this record anyway. My favourite song off what is perhaps my favourite album.
18. Poor bass
19. Looks are really important. I know they shouldn't be, but I couldn't bring myself to gig with an ugly bass! The P is classic, as is the Stingray. I have a soft spot for the angular Status bodies and the NS Spector shape. Zon Sonus basses seem to have an NS influenced and very classy looking body shape too. The ACG Recurve shape is growing on me a lot too. It looks a bit like a modern take on a Wal.
20. Most days, not at all! Maybe 10/20 minutes if I'm in the mood. I tend to leave it alone until rehearsal.
21. The same reason people want to know if Jamerson used Miss Millies or KFC to grease his strings up before going on stage I guess.
22. Matt Sharp eh? Cool bass!
23. The woods on Alan's basses are just amazing.
24. I do wish they'd put some nicer looking headstocks on their basses, mind.
25. I had an ATK and it was a very nice bass. Not the best looker in the world, quite heavy, but excellent build quality, playability (if you can handle a chunky neck) and great tone. If it was a 5 string I'd probably still have it.
