1. Probably a case of the head not being powerful enough to give any real volume increase when its output was split between the two cabs.
2. I no longer own this. It was a bit too "look at me". Now owned by Mr Foxen, unless he's flogged it.
3. Sounds like a bag of spanners in a washing machine to me. Larry is bearable though, he's got the funk.
4.
How far back can you/we/everyone go? I'd transfer/convert some old cassettes for a laugh....I've got some hideous stuff...
Please post it
5. Loving this thread! Your '82 band rocks, Bilbo Today is another day, so here are another two (my last, as I dont think I have any more recordings of note). I've managed to find what I think is my earliest ever recording - aged around 13 or 14 I think. Recorded on a good ol' Tascam 4 track, I remember having a lot of fun flipping the tape for backwards vocals with delays and tinkering with pitchshifted guitars on my first (and cherished) multi effects pedal. Terrible singing and quite pretentious, but I still like it because when I hear it I can picture my messy teenage bedroom with wires draped everywhere for when I bounced down to my hi fi And here's a piece of dubstep I recorded last week on my iPhone, in a lovely little app called Music Studio. I had intended to write a longer piece for strings but when I tried out the synth patches they immediately brought back joyfull memories of Amiga game music...
6.
Here's something I found that's quite funny, twenty odd years ago with lashings of distorted bass, when I wanted to be in Talas. At 3.40 there is a ridiculous clone moment. The whole track sounds a bit like it's under water since I converted it to an mp3. Long before pc's and all this stuff you kids have at your fingertips, hahaha! Recorded live IIRC Used my Billy converted Pbass also had the BC1 screaming away! ....and new stuff: Soundcloud
The first track on your Soundcloud page... can I be the first to say "alright Yoko?" Fat Head Man Guy Thing and the tracks following it on the other hand, wouldnt sound out of place on a Zappa album, to me at least.
7. Tango Suite reminds me of Sinister Minister in places
8.
Ooh, nice one Nige! This first track is Marigold and was recorded by my "I want to be famous" band some time around 92/94. It features our very own Mr. Fudge on guitar... Marigold And this one I recorded today just for a bit of fun! This one features, well, me!... Is This Funk?
Serious chops on the funk track. You must have a thumb like a side of beef, sir!
Bugger. I stupidly had it saved as a massive WAV and didn't upload. Just converted it. It's in this post and the one above. God, the main vocal sounds so sh*t, the main verse vocal which I double tracked disappeared and I don't know what happened to it, so you have a splendidly weak backing vocal track in the verses although it gets a little better as the song progresses. Also the the vocal appears to be panned fairly hard left and right. I must have been stoned off my face when I mixed it Never mind, I don't like my singing voice much anyway Thanks for the lovely comments on the other one!
I love this - the bassline is fantastic, dubby goodness, the song itself is really interesting both melodically and rhythmically and I don't think your vocals are bad at all.
My current band, earlier this year: http://www.myspace.com/copaseticska/music/...stless-69378405
This ska track is great - love the bassplaying, really makes you want to skank in the uptempo bits!
May have put this up elsewhere, but anyway Early - around late 70's we reckon I'm Always With You - a rather busy Shergold Marathon Fretless
Really like the police-yness of this. I love the texture of the instruments, drums and vocals recorded on 70s equipment, it just invokes a different mood when you listen to it. Great stuff.
Here we go. I don't have any of the really old stuff (computers ) but here is something from 4 years ago (which for me is pretty old!) and something from this year: oh yeah...
Control sounds really cool, the opening part with the ascending and decending synth is very Skunk Anansie (which I like!).
9. Here's me aged 17 or so (so, 2002ish). Recorded round a mates house on his 8 track (he played drums for me), with vocal mics. Bit of an early songwriting attempt, it's ok, but lacks any real attitude. The bass is a Rockbass Corvette, and the guitar is a lovely Fender Jaguar I owned for a bit, before becoming frustrated with it's many, many design flaws! And this is my band this year. Recorded last month in fact. The bass is my Spector into the desk with a Sansamp RBI.
10. I'm pretty sure I have some music I wrote and recorded aged 14 at home. It would have been done on a tascam cassette four track, I seem to remember lots of bouncing down and tape flipping for reverse vocals and the like. I'll try and post it later.
11. I'm loosening my trousers in anticipation of pics! Love Zons.
12. My band have been recording an EP at a local studio, and the first few tracks are now up on our myspace here: www.myspace.com/dirtybreak We play pop punk/rock I suppose. All bass was recorded with my Spector NS2000/5 straight into the desk via my Sansamp RBI. I do backing vox too (i'm panned right ). Any feedback welcome!
13. I spend a fair bit of time singing while playing, almost every song we do in fact. You quickly get used to moving around the neck with minimal visual cues, although I still find a quick glance at the neck helpful for big shifts. I used to play cello and found the volute (I think thats the term) on the back of the neck invaluable for feeling where my hand was meant to be while sight reading. No such helpful indicators on most electric basses though, besides the nut and the neck body join. That's a lot of space in which to get lost!
14. Not too concerned about floor coupling - I've got 700 watts to play with, and even outside on beer crates I've always had more than enough low end with this cab. Lots of things to consider here. I thought it would just be a case of bunging some screws in, but if bolts are the preferred fixing method then perhaps a board would be easier than dismantling the cab.
15. Ah, really? I've no idea if I can even get into my cab
16. Considered that but trying to keep the weight down as I'd have to lift the cab up stairs fairly often after wheeling it.
17. I've recently bought a set of four heavy duty casters to affix to my Schroeder 410L. They didnt however come with any fittings. Now, where woodwork is concerned, I havent got a clue. So, a few idiotic questions: What do I need, in terms of fixings? Self tapping screws? Do I need to drill pilot holes first? What size screws will I need typically to take the load and where can I buy them?
18. Random note generator? Surely that's going to put most Jazz musicians out of business?
19. Glad it's not just me that thought that! Could use a higher action I think. Or an *ahem* slightly more refined touch
20. I think I just came. It's a shame I can't remember any of the notes on the neck besides the names of the strings, really. Shame there isnt a decent app that makes you click on the right string/fret when you see the note on the stave.
21. The Thumb-ness of the SRT basses is what caught my eye. The only youtube clip I can find of one however sounds, well, not quite in the same league as a Warwick IMO: Compare that to a Corvette tested by the same shop: Apples and oranges I know, and a pretty poor player in the first clip, but the Ibanez sounds quite wooly in comparison. Man, I'd love that corvette based on sound alone, if only the top horn didnt look like a penis.
22. It's the snap to grid that I hate I think (I find it hard to compose with such rigidity when the music in my head is always rubato laden), so I'll take a look at cubase, sounds like it might do the trick. Cheers fella!
23. Bass clef apprentice. Suprised I got them all right, but very slow and my brain hurts now.
24. I was wondering, does anyone know of any compositional tools that allow you to click and enter notes, and drag to elongate the note duration without sticking to rigid formula (most I've used require you to set a time sig, then force you to use rigid beats per bar). I want some thing where I can click to add notes poliphonically but gives me total control over note duration just by clicking and dragging. Any ideas?
25. Can of worms I guess, they all seem to have that SR sound though, even my mates old passive GSR. The only thing that seems to be consistant(ish) across the range is the body shape and the neck.
