1. I think his ban was years ago now.
2. Normally with the centre of the bass around belt buckle height. Best compromise for me between a relaxed right arm and fretboard access. Plus, I'd hate to look like the visual accompaniment to the Seinfeld theme that I imagine plays in non bassists heads whenever they see a bassist.
3. I had my first string breakage in years the other week, the low E of a set of Hi Beams. They were a few months old and had endured a boiling, but it's a rare thing to break a bass string... it unravelled at the bridge end, very odd. I havent found any strings I like better yet though, so I guess I'll stick with them.
4. I have one on my Spector. It looks nice, but I doubt I could tell the difference between it and a normal nut in a blind test.
5. It's a shame the prices on these are so inflated. I wish EBMM made a 5 string version of the 4 string ray in their Sterling line. It seems like a no brainer to me.
6. I can vouch for this being a great little amp, I've used it myself. Buy with confidence!
7.
If all goes to plan, there'll be a BFM cab at RS to have a go with soon.
Interesting! It'll have to be seriously good to compete with my 410L mind, this thing is the absolute balls.
8. I had a 1212L once which was around 25kg, and yeah, it was fairly easy to shift with head and bass at the same time, even up stairs. For me, that is, not everyone can carry the same amount comfortably of course. Would I have liked it to be half the weight again? Er, yes! Who wants to carry weight if you don't have to?
9. Owned - 2002 Rockbass Corvette - ok player, very light and comfy. Weak pups though. late 70s Avon Grabber copy - pretty awful in every way. Cost me £20 at a car boot. Sold it for £20 a decade later. 2005 MIM Fender Precision - ok workhorse, nothing special tonally or fit and finish wise. 2005 Warwick Streamer Jazzman Fretless - lovely player, full sound, some build quality issues (tuners not correct fitted, screws kept popping out) Joined Bassworld around 2006 2007 Status S2 Classic 5 string bolt on - sublime instrument, maybe not quite the perfect tone for me though and too much £££ to keep tied up in a bass. late 80s/early 90s Status Series 1 NT 5 string - very nice player. A bit artificial sounding, but wish I'd kept it, it had character. 1986 NJ BC Rich Mockingbird - good rock tone, too many switches for me though. 1999 US Fender Jazz standard - excellent player, very resonant, lovely bass all round. Another one I wish I'd kept. 1989 NJ BC Rich Mockingbird - not really sure why I bought this, the neck was like a banana. It was used once live then sold. Hohner B2A - nice cheap little stick bass, not for me though. Dated looks made it a no go for live use which sealed its fate. Ibanez ATK reissue - excellent build quality, nice chunky neck with excellent playability, but not 100% sold on the tone. Own - 1995 heavily modded Encore P bass copy - my first bass, it's been like trigger's broom. It's good for recording vintage tones, terrible live. SSD Spector NS2000/5 - nice solid workhorse. Plays well. Very good chunky rock tone. Not 100% sure this is a keeper, but too skint to do anything about it.
10. My playing is getting more and more simple every year I swear. Half the time I'm singing backing vocals so have to keep it that way, or I'm just content to underpin the band. It's great! I leave the widdling for when I'm at home with my guitar, piano or more recently violin. That's not to say I wont bust out a solo if the guitarist breaks a string, but when we're playing together there's no need.
11. Why they couldnt just make the Ray 5 sound like a Ray 4 is beyond me...
12. Looks like a fantastic evolution of the P bass. If I were a four string player and if the looks were a bit less "Billy" I'd have serious GAS for one.
13. If it's the RBI with mid control, I'd say boosting your bass and mids, rolling back the treble a touch, and maybe setting the presence around 2/3 o'clock would be a good start settings wise.
14. Nigel will love that.
15. Good review from Ed Friedland. You can read it online in flipbook format on their website.
16. Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Barafundle Forgot how much I loved Gorky's, bought this album the other day and it's wonderfully strange. As far as I can make out it's mildly psychedelic medieval maudlin pop folk.
17. I always regret having to sell it! I doubt I'll ever own a bass built to those standards again (not since I got rid of my credit card!). Buy this one instead!
18. Beautiful. Same colour as the S2 I used to have. Good luck with the sale!
19. Hard times for everyone financially at the end of the day. That Spector was easily worth double what it went for!
20. Cheers for taking a listen! I do always wonder about the vocal. I think you may well be right about the levels, I may have been erring on the side of caution with the volume. Thanks for the feedback, very much appreciated
21. It's definately one of those marmite finishes
22. Whoever came up with the Antigua finish needs to be found and made accountable for their heinous crime.
23. Anyone wanna listen? Anyone?! Seriously though I'd be really grateful for any feedback, especially on the mix, I tend to mixdown on headphones so I'm never sure how the sound will reproduce on other people's listening devices I do have a bit of a habit of running the bass too high in the mix (don't all bassists?), which I think I've pulled back a bit on this one...
24.
i never wear jeans, as it happens
Doesn't it get a bit drafty?
