1. Not my cup of tea visually, but Warmoth make some top notch bits so I'm sure it sounds/plays great.
2. Down I Go - prog hardcore. Amazing, amazing, amazing, amazing album.
3. I use an old Mac G4 I bought used for £80 (it came loaded with Traction, which is a fairly decent DAW), a Tapco Link firewire interface which cost around £150, and a Rhode M3 condensor mic which cost around £90. Everything worked a treat straight away, no latency issues or anything like that, although it does struggle to run plugins like Amplitube unless I render the tracks first so its not computing everything in real time. I find recording with a computer far, far easier than using an all in one unit, being able to edit waveforms on screen with a mouse is fantastic. So, you dont need to spend a fortune. I recorded this the other day with my setup, just to give you an idea of the sound quality: http://wilmiles.bandcamp.com/track/unfinished-track
4. James Cleaver Quintet. For fans of melodic hardcore, I suppose.
5. Only just noticed these. Seems like a great price point. I could be very interested if they do a 5 string Artist model with the MM/J config...
6. I move my whole forearm and try and keep my wrist relaxed. I use the pad of my finger too. Although, I tend to enjoy fretless the most by keeping vibrato to a minimum and letting the fingerboard rattle (or that horrible word, mwah) do the talking.
7. Amazing looking bass.

Ibanez ATK310

Mine was a fairly weighty lump for sure. The tone wasn't bad, but it did have an almost synthetic quality and a somewhat harsh high end. I've heard worse, but I've heard better too...
9. The only bass I had that suffered serious dive was an old BC Rich Mockingbird. Fairly light body and silly strap button placement due to the design - moving the strap button to the neck heel improved things considerabley.

Ibanez ATK310

I had an ATK 300. Build quality was superb for the money. Very chunky neck, a bit like a cross between a P and some of the chunkier Warwick necks, which may not suit everyone. Soundwise it was punchy, and the pickup switching made it suprisingly versatile for a one pickup bass. In the end though I sold it because I was never 100% happy with the tone, I think the preamp could use upgrading.
11. Or, alternatively, if you fancied a complete setup swap I'd be willing to do a straight trade for my current rig, which consists of the aforementioned Crown, a Sansamp RBI and a 4U Citron ABS case. It sounds fantastic and it's got a lot of grunt, but I'm too lazy to keep lugging it upstairs for practice every week - it's overkill for me. Up to you, I realise you probably wanted a straight sale so no worries if none of that lot floats your boat.
12.
watcha thinking?
Well, I bought it for £250 off Shockwave last year, I'd be happy to value it at £230 though accounting for use. It's in good working order, I've been using one channel at 700watts to run my Schroeder and it's goes very loud and clean. £200 your way plus whatever the rack ears cost? If you fancy it, of course, up to you
13. Hmmm, I dont suppose you'd be interested in a Crown XS700 power amp as part of a trade? I'm considering moving back to Markbass for the weight saving.
14. I think when you listen to a band mix you have to take your "bass player" hat off and listen to the mix in the context of your target audience. The important thing is that the mix sounds good, and sometimes that can mean the bass sits lower than you yourself would put it. Providing the song as a whole sounds good and the bass isn't totally inaudible, I'm generally happy.
15. I've been perving over Tobias basses lately. Has anyone compared a Gibson era Tobias Growler with an MTD Kingston Artist/Heir? I'm guessing the MTD Kingston basses will have better QC?
16.
brian eno's 'prophesy theme' from 'dune'
I had no idea Eno contributed to the soundtrack. Love that film!
17. I play rock/punk. On my Sansamp, a slight bass and mid boost, and a slight treble cut. I don't touch the preamp on my bass.
18. If the neck is anything like the wood necked Status S1 I owned, it'll be a flat radius, quite thin, fast and comfy for a 5 string. Tonally I've heard the Shark basses are somewhat P like but I've not tried one myself. Normally they go for around the £250 mark I think. I've always liked the look of natural finish Shark basses with tort guards, despite it being a colour combo I'd normally dislike. I think it stems from me lusting over old Trace Elliott/Status catalogues when I was a young lad.
19. I don't dislike his sound, as sonically on record, particularly when he's playing slower passages it's a very rich and sonorous tone. I don't think it's a tone that's dated particularly well however, so in the context of most contemporary music I can understand people not being particularly enamoured with it.
20. Can't wait to see how this looks. Far prefer the 4 + 1 headstock on a Jazz V too, looks far better than Fender's 5 in a row layout.
21.
Absolutely. Spent 30 years doing it, I'm not about to stop now. On a serious note, for me it's not really about playing bass. It could be playing anything or even singing. The main thing to me is playing music, preferably original music, even more preferably music I've written.
+1 Me too. I'd be happy playing any instrument as part of a group, it's all about the magic of making music with other people for me. Ideally with someone watching and enjoying it, but you can't win 'em all
22. I could count the number of times we've been payed more than petrol money on one hand. A lot of the time we dont even get petrol money. I play in a band because I love live music. I work my day job so I can afford to live and do the things I enjoy (such as playing in a band!).
23. Doesn't Guy Pratt post on Basschat?
24. Why not get the bridge and headless nut anodised black?
