1.
That needs elaborated on !!!
From what I can recall, from what I read ages ago in an old thread on another forum, the previous owner's drains backed up and flooded the ground floor of their dwelling, leading to the guitar getting coated in a layer of effluence. I think the previous owner then proceeded to beat the guitar up with a baseball bat but I may be imagining that. Oli will correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure.
2. I've got a DBX 266 XL rack mount comp. I used it for the first time last night, and I could tell it had a lot of potential, but I'm new to using a full featured compressor so might need a little guidance. I've read the excellent compression FAQ so have an idea what each control does, however I'm still a little unsure about where I should be setting the threshold control. I play at a moderate pace with a fairly soft pick most of the time, Greenday-esq rock/punk I guess - for a punchy tone, should I set the threshold so that all the notes I play show, say, a 6db gain reduction, and then adjust the output gain accordingly, or should I be setting it so that only the very loudest peaks trigger the gain reduction meter? Just wondering what tree I should be barking up before I start playing with the attack and release settings.
3.
I have an old NJ Warlock, it was once a very nice bass but suffered the worse attempt at a refin ever (random direction sanding followed by painting with PVA glue). It is currently stripped and waiting for Waynepunkdude to swing by and grab it for a respray. I have an 86 NJ Mockingbird too, it is a lovely bass, but the pickups were microphonic. I've had hands on a really cheap mockingbird guitar too, i was rubbish, but is now awesome.
If that's the guitar I think it is, I'm not sure I'd want to have had hands on it without rubber gloves...
4. Not sure - I think 18 inches but I'll need to measure and confirm.
5. I actually think the 80s Status S2s are really cool, in that retro futuristic 80's way... but then I think of Mark King playing one and it all goes downhill.
6. A bit late, but as I'm catching up on feedback.... a month or two ago Keeno79 bought my Spector NS2000/5. I don't think he posts often (or at all) so for the benefit of any future business, the sale went without a hitch, excellent comms, prompt payment, and I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again

obbm's feedback

I bought Dave's F1. Very pleasant to deal with, and very prompt dispatch! Many thanks
8. I bought Chris' DBX compressor. Very pleasant chap to deal with, buy with confidence!
9. Herbie Hancock - Headhunters. Is this considered jazz? I'd be suprised if it is because I quite like most of it
10. Used to use flats on a P in a rock band, got a great JPJ tone but struggled to cut through so went back to rounds. Wouldn't mind a set again on my P for finger funk purposes and for that lush, palm muted with a pick tic tac sound.
11. I'm afraid not, although I would trade them for a newer, less smelly pair of green vans
12. If it sounds good, it is good. A band mix tends to require that each instrument occupies it's own space in the frequency spectrum, so if your guitarists are occupying the low mids territory then it may be best to cut back those frequencies and fill things out with low end instead. If you are going to cut your mids a touch of treble can be a good thing in terms of hearing yourself though.
13. +1 for D'Addarios. Elixers are fairly high tension too as far as I recall.
14. Replied. Still for sale, not looking to split at the moment.

SOLD

Great cabs! RE the post earlier about comparison with a 6x10, I've a/b'd mine with an Ampeg 8x10 before in a rehearsal room, and IMO the schroeder walked all over it in terms of bottom end and matched it with volume. I couldn't believe it!
16. Can't say I'd have heard of any of them if it werent for bass forums. I've always thought of VW, MM etc as "music by bass players, for bass players". Who else would listen to it?
17. Bump, now definitely up for sale as a complete rig, see the first post for details.
18. I don't really think anyone ever sets out to cause offence to each other in off topic, but most of the posters have strong opinions one way or another and some of them are diametrically opposed so you'll always get the odd tiff. It always sorts itself out. Long live off topic!
19. Perhaps Golchen should be the judge of whether it was offensive or not to him?
20. I went in off topic once. The doctors say my arms may never grow back.
21. Staggering chops, enjoyed the more melodic aspects of that clip. I prefer his fingerstyle playing to the slappy tappy stuff.
22.
PJ did Let England Shake and The Words That Maketh Murder. Pretty compelling, IMNSHO. Love the new album… bit of a fan ever since her first EP… used to see gigs in Bristol... her pink Gretsch Broadkaster used to be mine. Looooong story.
Just checked it out on youtube, good performances of both I thought. Shame she didn't play This Glorious Land too...
23. I missed it, what did PJ Harvey play? Love her latest record.
24. All the things you mention though are rather subjective. I'd rather an S2 sound warm than crisp, for instance. I do prefer the looks of the early ones, but it's all a matter of taste really.
