3.
Hi BC-ers I have a daughter living and working out in the USA and am wondering If she was to purchase me a Bass for a Christmas present would she have to declare it for import duty when bringing it home back to blighty? Basically what I’m asking is has anyone purchased a bass whilst out in the USA and brought it home and if so what’s the deal, has to be legal etc, any advice would be welcome. All the best Chris
I only ever bring in used items so its always Duty & VAT.....However if it is genuinely a gift there will still be charges but it will be lower than buying as a stock item...have a look on the HMRC web site...its the only way to get the answer.... She could always buy it and sell it to you for $100 the duty then is insignificant
 4. Rare ol bird here....Serial No 1003 makes her 1933 or possibly early 34,Shes in super condition for 75+ years Comes with the original I beleive hardcase and given the age it again is in very good solid condition, obviously there fraying on the black covering material but all the latches are solid the lock works(no Key) and the leather handle remains solid Looking for around £2K possible exchanges considered

 7.
The Hipshot doesn't go as low according to people I know who've tried it. FWIW the pickup cover should make no difference at all to the string height. It's the surround on some of the older 4001 models (some are without the "cutaway" section) that you have to worry about. In fact my old Ric 4000 could probably achieve the lowest action of any of the 30-odd basses (many high end) that I've had.
You should be able to go way low....I have put a hipshot on a rickenfaker and its low with spot on intonation...I could acheive low on my 4003 Ricky but intonation was always an issue....Had I tried the hipshot back then no doubt I would still have the rikki...Que Serra Serra
 8.
Hi, I'm selling my Fender Bassman amp head. It works fine and has a new set of Groove Tubes in both the preamp and drive amp. It's powerful enough for pub and medium size venues despite it being rated at 50w. The build quality is excellent - back in the days when solid meant solid! It comes with it's original Fender cover, spare fuses and has a switchable voltage selector.
And the price please....seeing as Im currently in the market for just such an amp....feel free to PM me tino
 9.
Just Iplayered it. Not good, tbh. KOL - forgettable, formulaic trite guff, Clapton - first song awful, second song was OK, but only the usual excuse for Jools to get to rinky-dink along with another "legend" before they croak. Vaccines - insipid & timid-sounding, and they looked embarrassed, as well they might. Bellowhead - plenty of spirit & good playing but way too much of everything all at once, and MIA - what the hell was that? She might be able to rap but she certainly cannot sing - I can't see this helping her career too much. Thankfully. Have I missed anything? Wouldn't be surprised if I did because I think I might have blacked out there for a moment or two. Jon.
You didn't like it then????
 10.
I expect this is covered elsewhere but I can't seem to find it.... I am experiencing a pain in my left hand between the last 2 knuckles when I have been practising recently. Is this the ligaments? Should I push on through it so me hand will get stronger or do I need to rest it? Thanks for any advice!
GO SEE YOUR GP ....NOW!!! Dont keep on playing, you may just make it worse....
 11.
Hi, I'm need a practice amp for the house which could also be used for jams. I'm thinking 12-15in speaker with 80-100 watt output. I've got about £350 to spend but that is my maximum and anything under that would be good considering Christmas is on the horizon. Any recommendations or advise would be greatly appreciated. I am considering currently:- Ampeg BA115 SWR LA15 Eden EN12 EBS 60 Thanks in anticipation, Connor.
Hows about...........................Roland DB 700 .....with headphone socket....
Very interested to see the vine 335 - the vine/carved LPs & SGs are Kasugas, near-identical to their own versions so obviously I'm wondering if the semi will be too. J.
Jon This link is the same model as mine, with the exception it does not have the fujigen vines and mine is somewhat better condition prectically mint with original case and paperwork,I am currently sorting an issue these models had with the pickups but its no big deal, just needed potting. 14.
Tino - I have to say you're dementedly but oddly endearingly optimistic with your prices! That aside - bloody hell man the Electra's stunning - I don't know how you can part with that, & while I doubt you'll get the BIN, you might get a bid or two... There really aren't many of these in the UK - I don't know if they were ever officially imported here, being a US domestic brand. Electras were actually made by a number of different factories so you might not strictly be accurate saying it's a Matsumoku - although having said that, I dunno who did make this one! Oli - that £75 EB-0 is an Avon - if you do decide to go for it, I have one of the metal pin-badges if you're interested. J.
Im often most optimistic having veiwed my intention though a mistyoptic I have interest on the Ibby from Germany. The Electra is a beauty (one of 2 I have owned a while)the modules are commanding good money on there own stateside.. but wait to you see the Electra 335 I have with vine inlays to neck....Be on the Bay this time next week, exceptionally rare in the UK and more so in its amazing condition.
 15.
Setting aside that there were two importers using the Electra brand for the US domestic market, this Electra would have been manufactured for St Louis Music. SLM ordered stock from every major Japanese, and some Korean, factories. Very little of Electra branded product was manufactured by Matsumoku, until the Electra line was subsumed into the Westone brand. Unless this Electra has a Matsumoku serial number, on the reverse of the headstock, it's not a Matsumoku made instrument. If it does have a serial then you can easily identify its year of manufacture. The only exception would be the Custom/Limited Edition made Matsumoku product, which would have a custom code stamped in the pickup cavity.
It has serial number impressed just like a gibbo, also in the effects cavity there are more numbers....never took the pups out so no idea whats to be found there and it was supplied bySLM,by other paperwork that came with it I beleive it to be before 84,but I will have a nose in it later... I also have the tree of life 335 as used by Bishop coming on the bay next week just waiting on the potting to be done to sort out slight microphonic issues it has..Stunning 335 type guitar and I beleive fairly rare over here.
 16. Also, I am one of 2 people in Idaho that thoroughly enjoy Cricket and taking the rise I suspect...........TWO thats one more than in the UK Welcome to the madness

 18. well like many others I have had more than enough of Ebay..... More than enough of foreign bidders that win your items then do not pay ,bid on items that clearly state UK auction only and collection only. Ebay could not give a stuff they have your money no matter what...Ive 5 or so items running once finished that really is my lot,its just not worth the time or investment.. Unfortunately for you lot there will be more adds from me.....anyone need a lightly used teabag cheap & free delivery

 20.
We thought about it but dunno if the NI market would big enough for a boat load of rick copies Plus mentioning importing to the Agencies helping has the sucking of teeth and head shaking reactions. As for the RIC copyright does it matter anywhere outside the US. I have heard differing opinions regarding that and that's how the Canadian Dillion manages to offer up there Rockinbetter being in Canada yer man can't do nowt but send letters. That bit seems to made more complicated because there is an American Dillion too no relation too the Canadian one. Although just nosing the Rockinbetter that is supposedly from the same factory as tokai and the probass one claims to be Chinese with Korean hardware Dillion Canada Claims to be made in Korea. Two totally different factories making them and put sticking the same name on them ???
http://cgi.ebay.com/EL-MAYA-ELECTRIC-BASS-...=item3f04478b01 over the pond but these aint half bad
 21.
You actually do have to pay duties on any new parts involved (I suppose some scammer must've used this as a method of bringing in components and avoiding duty on them in the past) but I don't know if the cost of labour is taxable. Have a nosey, but yes you probably would be liable for some duty, whether you end up paying it or not is another matter.
If the dealer is declaring a warranted repair then there will be no duties payable.
 22.
I've got an option to get some work done on something in the USA which, for lots of obscure reasons, actually works out cheaper than getting it done over here. However I'm nervous that I might get hit for customs and import duties when it comes back into the country? The US supplier said it would be clearly marked as "return from warranty repair" and thought that this would mean it wouldn't get taxed. Anyone been through this before?
As long as you have documented proof there will be no duties, however HMC may well hold its return to you until satisfied
