Always fancied a L/H neck on a R/H bass - I could defret it for my "interesting" Jazz project! Jon.
Jon Sorry mate This bundle is going so as to buy a slighter better LH jazzer for my neighbours grandaughter...Its our sort of whip round without physically parting with cash

 4.
Hi, I've been playing guitar for 5 years and I'm fairly adept at it, I want to try another instrument now and ive decided on bass. I'm starting a band with friends and I want a fat rich sound not too trebly that will punch through and really fill out space. If a bassist taking up guitar asked me a similiar question I'd put them onto a Les Paul so what's the bass world got to offer to that will do that? I'm thinking of pairing my new bass with an orange tiny terror 1000watt head if that makes a difference and my budget will be about £800 for the bass
Unless you are spotty and need to stand at the back....stick with the guitar....bass players always get the ugly birds
 5.
IMO I disagree. My main jazz bass has no price. It's sentimental value and the emotional attachment I have to it (and the link to the person who bought it for me) really does not have a price. It will be with me forever. 6.
BC is full of posts stating this bass, that bass blah blah is a keeper. More often than not the very same bass is for sale months or even weeks later. Unless something has a particular emotional attachment or resonance (year of birth, present from wifey at key date etc) surely the concept of a keeper is plain rubbish. After all it's bits of wood and wire and there are a lot of pretty bits of wood and wire out there. I am as guilty as any, having stated first that my 71 Precision would never be sold, then my Fender Pino ( now back in Legion's hands as I wanted his Tony Franklin fretless just that little bit more than the Pino, even though it was the nicest Precision I had ever played). Agree, disagree?
Totally Agree......................................even got a fiver for me muvva...bless her. Every thing has its price.. YEP EVERYTHING For sale genuine 1965 USA Fender Jaguar with upgraded pups & 51 Esquire with Callaham modifications or 71 USA Telecaster..................IF the price is right

 11.
Hi, i want to keep this simple and as clear as possible. Guy buys bass from me off of E(vil)Bay. I post it insured. He receives and signs for it. He sends me email saying that the bass is fine but the case is in very bad condition. I reply saying that the bass is the item that he has bid on - the case which i except is not in great condition is only a means of transporting the bass but perfectly adequate to protect an instrument during transportation. He raises a dispute. For me it seems like he is scamming me so i have to buy a new case (thats what he asked for in the dispute) for him. What do you think?
Why dont you just pop 2 in the back of his napper....whining git

 14.
As far as the Rockinbetters are concerned in real terms it wouldn't make any difference because there's no Tokai 4001/4003 copy (and there never has been) for Rockinbetters to compete with. J.
However if you promise not to push this point......I will get a shed load run off from Mr Shanghai.....80/20 is that fair?????
 15.
Apart from the Matsumokus, the Kasugas, the Shaftesburys (dunno who made them!) the Kawai/Fernandes... Tino, the mid-70s Ibbys are gorgeous, but they were single most inaccurate MIJ Faker ever! Gibson-type Mudbuckers? Greenman555 - what bad stuff have you heard about the Retrovibes? I'm seriously considering a red one, & all the guys on here that have had 'em are full of praise. J.
I feel they were trying to evade copyright and as such these should possibly not be Fakers but a very good bass in their own right,I liked the MB it was a lot more transparent than the similar looking Gibson product....I am actually regretting selling mine in favour of keeping my Maya Telecaster bass......so much so that Im on the hunt for another Ibby, but good unabused examples are thin on the ground of late.... 16.
I'm on that one! Hands off - lol! No, seriously alls fair in love & evilBay.. I like the humour of the ad. & the bass looks very cool. & sounds good too, according to the Vender.. I've been looking at those ProBass Retrovibes - there's one on the Bay ATM - but read a few disturbing things. What I want is that Ric look & as close to Ric tone as I can get on a budget, having had to part with my 2 Rics this year - a 75 4001 & an 03 c64. The price of another broken relationship, & frankly a price I just had to pay! Any advice? (on Ric-a-likes, not my relationship issues!)
Keep your eye out for a mid 70's Ibanez copy....none better
 17.
My dad's expressed an interest in starting to play bass, and I'm really looking forward to trying to help him learn, but for some reason I can't think of any songs that are easy enough for a complete beginner? Bearing in mind he has to cope with fingerstyle playing, fretting, reading tab etc. He likes Deep Purple, Hendrix, Led Zep, Rod Stewart, Motown, that sort of thing. Does anyone have any experience helping family members learn bass? I expect some frustration from both sides along the way!
Kings of Leon.....Use Somebody.....loads of how to on utube ...like the meerkat says.....simples

 19.
Hi Guys, I'll cut a long story short here - in December last year I sold what I believed to be a genuine Gibson Les Paul. The buyer has now come back to me and is claiming the serial is a fake. Before I refund his money and take back possession of the guitar I'd like to check as best I can that he is at least, in turn, being honest with me. The serial number in question is as follow: 80645481 Is there anyway to learn conclusively if this is indeed the genuine article or a fake as he claims? In the email I received, he goes on to list a number issues with the guitar suggesting that the serial number is far being the only thing fake about it. Any information about the number and other things to watch for would be very helpful indeed. Not least because I sent the guitar to the guy in London and he has now returned to Argentina - I'm assuming he would like me to refund his money to a bank in Argentina and then he will ship the guitar to me. Should I use an escrow service? Jings - my head is done in! Many thanks - Andy.
Gibson are notorious for Seial number issues and the guitar dater project is inconclusive,it does not get all serial numbers or formats correct. Dont worry If you cannot prove conclusively that it is a genuine Gibson it is really down to him to prove it is not, however if you want to be a fair fella. I would tell the chap to return it and once received you will refund his payment less shipping. If its any use I have a 100% genuine 1979 LP custom the serial number as with many Gibsons is not recognised on The GDP but confirmation of it authenticty was made available by Gibson by email along with an explanation of why odd serial numbers appeared so regularly at certain points in time. DONT PAY UNTIL YOU RECEIVE YOUR GOODS BACK IN THE SAME CONDITION I know a lad that sold a 1975 Fender tele on ebay, the buyer opened a case stating it was not in fact a 75 but a later guitar.the guitar was returned BUT it was NOT the guitar that was in the auction, remarkably similar in looks but NOT the item sold, fortunately the pics held on his PC showed that the serial number plate was entirely different to the one sold(this picture was not in the auction pics put up)But the best evidence was found on Gumtree where the buyer had the original tele up for sale along with a phone number that was also registered to the buyers Ebay account and Paypal details. Dont be hasty and Dont give YOUR money away T
 20.
If i was going to venture so far, id ask them to put some innane name on the headstock (Tokai seems to be a favourite) and get them to send the Rickenbacker plates via another post. Im sure that must be what happens anyway Tino Anyway never mind all that. Can i ask what that great looking 51 Esquire Modified model to Esquiresque is? It looks fantastic
The Esquiresque was built for me by local Bass Player & Luthier Martin Clark, for over 30 years I had been looking for a 51 and although in the 70s they were there to be bought I always found another use for the money. For some 10 or more years I had a 52 neck that had been slaughtered a pair of 52/53 pickups from a caster??? and volume & tone pots from 54 and I ebayed ( sold out of auction)these....the funds realised paid for this to be built, the purchase of a 1943 Gretsch Hawaiin slide guitar from the states and theres a few bob left. So if your in the market for a handbuilt bass ,,,,,built by a great fella and damned good bass player give Martin a call....tell him I said hello I will hopefully be commissioning a telecaster bass to match the Esquiresque fairly soon ,if only the Gibsons would start selling
 21.
I just went over to the TradeTang website mentioned in that thread, and looked up bass guitars. Number one at the top of the list is a Ric copy with Rikenbacker made in usa on the headstock. Shameless lol!! TraadeTang chinese guitar making - copying place
Dont even bother with them UK border control possibly confiscate somewhere in the region of 95% of all their shipments to individuals, HOW DO I KNOW THIS We are contracted for the final destruction and incineration of these and other seized goods,UGGS, REEBOK,TOYS,PERFUME,DVDs etc etc every week container loads And Cannabis by the van load.........And its all watched over by uniformed gaurds so DONT ASK!!!
 22.
I've been in the same room as a well-known British luthier while he worked on making a very convincing fake late-50s Strat that a music shop owner that he was in cahoots with was intending to sell as genuine. And no, I'm not naming names. Just saying, you don't just get counterfeiters in China.
I have most of my 50's & 60's Fenders copied faithfully by a very experienced luthier,I do not do it to deceive ..I do it because I cannot justify the ludicrous cost of the original vintage item in a fine condition. I also have additional marks added, parts altered or the model name altered to show they are copies so I personally will never try to sell them on as original.....that and that they are far to perfect... I have originals but they are in the main refinished or in extremely poor condition. Most Luthiers when pressed for a quid will undertake copies and lets face it the parts to make almost every conceivable cash cow are readily available from the states 65 Jag original but refinished 51 Esquire Modified model to Esquiresque, maker added to rear of headstock and, altered bridge to a Callaham the rest is 100% spot on My 2 favourite guitars ...but I cannot justify ,let alone find a real 51 Esquire...so the copy suits my needs....You all know they are copies or refins Just like I do. Copies are fine so long as we accept them for what they are and dont try to deceive others for gain
 23.
Obviously, quite easily... with a pick Unfortunately this is a foreign item to me, and while i have tried my hand at it a few times recently - playing with a pick that is - i just cannot get that irrate bee noise just after solo. Using all four fingers has proven far too sloppy, slow and is exhausting after a while. Tried a very limited no. of pics, the heavy ones just make me feel like im trying to cut through my strings, while the .50 ive tried does the job, i still cannot get close enough. Ideally, id like to swap back to fingerstyle after these parts, as far more confident + less likely to make a fool of myself! Any advice Re pick gauge, technique ect will be more than welcome! Thanks, TTP
Dunlop Puple or is it Mauve 1.5....You can do it....you just dont wanna admit it
 24.
Just thought I'd share it with BC - I bought myself an Ashdown Hyperdrive about two years ago, which almost instantly developed a faulty footswitch. After a bit of waiting about, I got a replacement from the shop, but then in the meantime I somehow ended up in a country band, so the Hyperdrive stayed in the box. Fast forward to now, I'm getting a new noisy-arse rock band together, and get my Hyperdrive out, only to find the exact same fault as my first one!! After a couple of very helpful emails back and forth, I tell Ashdown's service department that it's probably not worth the cost of shipping it back and forth, and ask them to confirm the type of switch I need to buy to do a DIY repair. Two days later, and there's one dropping through my door, free of charge! Nice to see they'll go out of their way for a customer who's warranty expired 18 months ago! Top blokes, full marks!
+1 I have always found them extremely helpful...the tech guys are superb no problem seems to big and all info and advice has been freely given
 25.
Hi All At last i have managed to sort the images out and host them through photobucket. First one and the second... You may notice that one string is missing due to slight mis-hap a week ago whilst playing. Price wise, just to confirm i am looking for 10,000 GBP I have also updated my profile, sorry still getting used to the whole FORUM thing
Had the bedding matched the decor I may well have considered an offer....the pictures suggest I will not be undertaking such a compliment...
