Likewise fretboard splits or delaminating skunk stripes, unless the bass is dirt-cheap & you're up for a bit of DIY bodging/experimenting. A bit of fretwear's not a huge problem but badly-worn frets will mean expensive work, nuts are pretty easy/inexpensive to replace. Like Neepheid says, usually everything else is easy-to-fix/replace wood & wire. Jon.
Always remembering if its a really beat up 50's Fender and the seller only wants £50.....WALK AWAY......and as you do so PLEASE call ME
 3.
A well known luthier from the Brighton region recommended Aliphatic Resin woodworking glue when we were discussing glueing guitars together back in the mid 90's. Don't know if this is still a good idea though. Perhaps others may know.
Thats what Titebond is as is Javis.....both will work well if clamped down properly

Did he ever re-appear or did he return to his toadstool at the bottom of the garden? Jez
I heard he quit playing bass and took up drumming.....last seen in Kentish Town eyeing up a TIMpani

 11.
Late to the party but all MIK, as BigAlonBass' link should prove. Always liked the Vester Argus - a BCer was selling one a few months ago, wish I'd gone for it now... Jon.
Cheers Jon Its just over the years I have seen a few links to MIDCO including this bit from WIKI. Rather than manufacture the instruments themselves, Vester used imported instruments, which were made by Saehan Guitar Technology, a subdivision of Zaozhuang Saehan Music Co., Ltd in South Korea (now known as Sunghan Music). The guitars were imported into the United States by Midco Music (now Musicorp), at the time chaired by L.Dean Samuel. Design specifications were dictated by Samuel Music in Illinois and revolved around variations on Saehan's preexisting top-of-the-line models. Eventually, Vester guitars managed to find a good home in the marketplace and covered a broad range of Japanese and Korean made middle-to upper-range acoustic and electric guitars, along with basic solid state amplifier models. Through contacts in the music industry Vester was able to secure endorsements from several popular musicians of the period, including the Country and Western band Alabama. I had a fella contact me offering 3X what its currently at on the bay..............Its most likely a wind up???
 12.
OK, I won't bore you with my medical history, suffice to say I have some pre-existing neck & shoulder issues that are presenting a problem when playing. As a result I've already had to suspend playing a couple of times and park my Stingray in the stand or pack it away in its case. Being conscious of my posture when playing certainly helps but if a lighter bass means I can play for longer without discomfort then I need to consider it. So, what are my options folks? I realise this isn't exactly a unique scenario so thought you might have some experiences to share. The only bass I can remember playing that was noticeably lightweight was an Ibanez SR (can't remember which model). But I've seen one recently up for sale on here because it wasn't lightweight enough to solve a back problem - so maybe they're not consistently lightweight (?). For reference, my Stingray isn't exactly a boat anchor at 9lb! I've never considered it previously, but I suppose I shouldn't rule out short-scale as an option. Although, other than potentially being lighter, I don't know the pros and cons of short-scale. Anyone care to enlighten me?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=180635881354 Twas carved from the wings of a fairy.................and its an option being both fluffy light and a shortscale, also could do with another bidder

Vesters.importer was a US company I know the Vestax guitars are MIJ nowadays, lovely guitars but difficult to get hold of in the UK,and their decks are overrated and mixers toooooooooooo expensive
 14.
That'll be an RS924 Roadster. And a complete wreck, by the looks. J.
Oh Fountain of Knowledge HELP...... VESTER..............Were all made in Korea???? I thought early ones had a MIJ link somewhere
 15.
You've sold many guitars then? Ive opted for 2012 a number she fails to comprehend or recognise, wont someone please tell her this is an actual recognised number and not me being greedy Shes even started on my amps to and half of them live in a lock up.................WILL IT EVER END

 17.
Fair point but most basses are 34" - 30-inchers are uncommon (ooer missus etc) and it's sometimes not immediately obvious from pics. With a bass like yours it's a specific uncommon feature & worth a mention. J.
Cos I spend most of the time conversing with ones good self,I naturally assume everyone else knows everything also ITS ADDED AND IN LARGE PRINT
 18.
Thanks for the information. Still after some hands on experience if anyone has some. Thanks again.
I had one in 1982/3 it was as Jon says a decent(ish)copy much the same as a Shaftesbury, however I prefered the Ibanez even over my Rikki...............never had a Jolana though anyone got one..CHEAP
 19.
I should probably stay out of this, but Tomb has posted elsewhere in the last few days that he's 14 years old. A lot of the responses he's getting here are treating him (understandably) as an adult. There's a bit of a mis-match. Tomb, my own son is 15. I recently bought him a 1970's Maya Precision bass and he's delighted with it. It cost about the same as your RickenFaker. It's not a "real" Precision because it's not a Fender ... doesn't matter, it's a great bass. If I could have bought him a 1973 Fender Precision for £200 then believe me, I would have. If I could have had it delivered by Angelina Jolie in a bikini then I would probably have arranged that too. Enjoy what you have.
I think I should step in at this point... Son youve been mugged off... However I am possibly your FairyGodfather So I will give you 250 of those euro things plus postage JUST TO STOP THE WHINING
 20.
i paid £500 n traveled 300 miles for a 30 year + rickyfaker i love my rickyfaker,i gig it more than my usa fenders i got £250 for your bass if you want I say keep ,play it,love it just think you could of spent loads more on a real ricky,n it may be a right pig.
Can I have it back???
 21.
Tino, do you not feel that your eBay listing should mention that this is a shortscale bass?
It will in a minute..... However I think it likely that the winner will be the lad thats been looked and has placed his bids...he knows what it is... A Few minutes Passed and it was done... Tell me how many guitars do you see where the scale length is in the text.FEW.......I guess I just take it that a buyer either knows or does their homework... T
 22.
Good job you didn't mate - you can't shift the bridge without affecting the intonation & the pitch above the 12th fret! You'd need a longer neck if you wanted to reposition the bridge! J.
Not really a concern when you play as bad a I do......whats this 12th fret i hear so much about Youd hate my 65 Silvertone, with offset pickups strung with 2B'sGDEE Played with a budweiser bottle and or bow....Seasick aint as sick as this one
 23.
So my Rickenbacker arrived and i started playing with it right away to get a feel from its neck and all that. feels great, its heavy but lighter than i was expecting. as expected there are 2 pieces missing but that are nothing more than cosmetic i believe, then i started noticing stuff on it... ok its in mint condition but i never saw (not that ive seen many) a bridge like that on the Rickenbacker and then i started looking for its serial number and i cant find it anywhere... is my Rick a fake?
I think you already know the answer to your own question
 24.
Hi Tino, don't suppose you managed to confirm if the bass is 32" or not? Cheers
Tiz Not Tis a 30" but theres loads of arse left on it to drop a BA in further down if thats the length you need ..lol I was once considering puting a second pickup in that would have required the bridge moving down,I even bought a rikiripoff bridge to do it.....just others took priority and I fely this one should remain as is due to the good original condition, see I do have a heart
 25.
Hi Tino, don't suppose you managed to confirm if the bass is 32" or not? Cheers
Nick I have a memory like a seive...will get back to you in a few mo's
