Are any bass stands safe for use with nitro finished basses?
tino replied to Clarky's topic in Accessories and Misc
Further to my post yesterday about the resilience of nitro finishes, are any bass stands safe for use with a nitro finish or is the foam on all of them liable to stain? PS, I know I could put some old T-shirt material over my Warwick Rockstand (which is next to my bed ) but Mrs Clarky, being house-proud, might object to that
I have had the problem I know you will be refering to...I solved it with further instruments by use of chamois leather .I cut it into strips the width of the foam rolled it round and superglued in place putting the join at the bottom so its nowhere near the instrument....works fine as far as I can see.......wheres the CS gone????? -
Permission to speak freely. Tino - with all due respect, the reason you haven't sold it yet is because it's been too expensive. The way things are at the moment (recession etc) the best you can expect to get for it is £400 - £450 - even pre-recession, Ibby 2388B/DXes like yours were getting £450 - £500, and not really any more than that. DON'T REFINISH IT!!! You have to understand these are now collectable vintage instruments and anything you do to it to change it or modify it will devalue it. Refinish it, de-fret it (for pity's sake - NO!!!!!) or do anything irreversible to it, and you'd be lucky to get more than £250 for it. If you want to sell it, leave it stock, be patient and don't be greedy. You'll find a buyer eventually. Jon.
Jon I understand fully...I actually like the bass as a bass I CANNOT stand the finish....every time I look at it I wanna kick it.....it just looks sad I think the things gonna stay with me for if I wanted rid of it that much I would have let it go for the 450s I was offered several times....and now the hipshots on the intonation and string height (lack of)are greatly improved anyway heres a pic or 2 for MrFoxen of the original bridge....sorry no mute but I will throw in a duster
I have always liked the sunburst ('fireglo') finish best on Ricks - that maple is a bit bland looking, agreed. But a re- fin will be pretty pricey compared to the value of the bass - Sims would charge about £400. Why not flog it for what you can get ( or trade) and get a bass you want? Probably end up costing you less in the long run
I am OK with the bass itself ....just looks so drab....the refin I would do myself other than the defret....just wondering how far I could go obtaining used parts from here & there.....so really looking for ideas

Ive been trying to pass this bugger off for a long long long long time, its a great bass BUT....its boring looking as hell... Reason YEP just 1.I hate the lack of colour it just looks so bleedin drab Im thinking a 3Cburst might look pretty cool with matching headstock, with a tortoise shell guard, maybe a defrett tooo maybe even change out the pups, the neck pups pretty cool but t'other is just so so....any ideas...?????
Can I put a 20 fret neck on a bass body that originally had 21 frets? Will there be any intonation issues?
Of course you can,but will it sit correctly in the pocket is it thicker or thinnen than the original & will your existing bridge allow for correct intonation to be acheived..???.thats another matter and you may have to move the bridge a little or buy a bridge such as a hipshot/copy that has a lot of travel.... Almost all issues can be resolved and there are many tekky types on here that will help you to do it
Congratulations! I'm sure she'll really enjoy it. So much more interesting to buy a classic instrument than to buy yet another Squier.
Terrible, very badly made with massive design flaws, avoid at all costs. I had one briefly, seems strangely ironic having praised Hofner so highly only to slate them but the cheaper models are pretty terrible and are definitely worth avoiding. Just IMO.
I would agree....get a Gretsch........................................It just so happens I know of a fella selling a rather nice Gretsch
Hey guys, we've been looking for a new bass player for a while now and have had adverts up all over the net on pretty much every music forum and band forming website I can think of as well as in local music shops and the like. I've put an example of what we've been posting below... is it too long, too much waffle, are we asking for too much, are we just no good? We've had the odd response and even auditioned a few people but nothing's really worked... Any help would be seriously appreciated as we're desperate to resolve this situation and keep pushing on with our careers. Any places you could suggest for us to advertise as well would be greatly appreciated Thanks very much Hell To Pay Alright Guys, Basically we're a Manchester based Hard Rock band looking for a bassist in their early to mid 20's. We've been together over a year and a half now and have firmly established ourselves across the North recently culminating in us winning Manchester's 106.1 Rock Radios Battle Of The Bands competition, play to a sell out 1,500 strong crowd at the Ritz as well as being invited to open up the SOS Festival on July the 9th (featuring Blaze Bayley!), support legendary Ac/Dc founder Dave Evans as he stops by in Manchester and not only have we been asked to come and play alongside Rise To Remain & Holy Grail on their Quest For Download tour by Live Nation but we've just shot our first Video as well! We're currently piecing together our debut album and would like to get a full line asap. We're looking for a solid player who can be creative and imaginative with their bass lines. Backing vocals are a major plus point but not a necessity. If you want to check out our stuff you can find it online at http://www.myspace.com/helltopayband there's a couple of tracks up their from out debut EP and a couple of demos as well. and if you wanna check out our video it's up on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkxckqCzRtc You can contact us at Cheers Hell To Pay
I would have applied but I look sh*te in Black However if you have room for a 50something in frayed Levis & sandals feel free to call me
Really? I'd say the opposite is true, compared to (for example) guitarists. We embrace our active circuits, fretlessness and lightweight amp gear. Anybody here play with a guitarist with an onboard preamp? Fretless guitar? Neo speakers? Chances are they're toting a Strat/Tele/Les Paul/SG, into a heavy 2x12 combo. Sweeping generalisations there, obviously, but there's an element of truth IMO.
I play an 80's Electra X-940 Les Paul with interchangable on board effects....but Im a saddo And of late Ive been pumping it through a Walkabout Scout cos Im to lazy to get the Fender Twin out of the loft
Is it the short-scale-ness that is the deciding factor?
Yes....my grandaughter has decided that she would like to learn bass shes currently in an all girl tribute band ( Green Day & all birds )shes Lead Singer and they do not have a regular bass player, she is very slight build and I gave her a precision to practice with but its just TOOOOOOOOO BIG... I had an ElMaya that was very light years ago and Im guessing this may well be similar???? T -

PS: Thanks for the correction Noel. When I first saw the listing, my first thought was that it didn't look like a Matsumoku made bass. But the year of manufacture checked out, so I posted without mentioning any quibbles. Which factory would it have been made in?
I must have the Maya......well not me but a certain young lady that has just discovered she wants to be a bass player & lead vocals -
As the title describes, either I'm completely stupid and crap at searching or it's really hard to find a genuine FENDER '62 reissue tort scratchplate for P bass. I want it to replace the "photo of a sicked up doner" Squier CV Pino plate. I have a strong belief that the '62 RI 13 hole Fender plate will fit based on other's experiences, but please holler if you know otherwise. Can anyone please recommend an online store in the UK or elsewhere? Thank you!!
applestone music or Thomann or the other 20 I found with a single google
