4.
Ok I am currently in the mood for a combo, however im sick and tired of folk posting amps for sale and using the max wattage that they can manage, even though to get this max wattage, an ext cab is req!!!!!!!!!!!!! As we know combos either manage their full outputs on their own or some need an ext cab to drop its impedance for its maximum output. Now technically its not false advertising as combos that do require an ext cab to maximise its output do actually go to whatever watts, however, would it be possible to actually give the combos output as it is?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or if thats not possible, to at least give us the heads up that an ext cab is required for this!!!!!!!!!! I feel that folk use this grey area of information to try show that their amp is more powerful than it actually is and some people could be very easily misled into thinking they are getting more bang for their buck than they actually are!!! Is it just me????
If in the mood my son is off to the States and is selling a mint walkabout scout with extension cab a Fender USA P Bass minter and other odds and sods
 5.
OMG how long before this one is up for a swap? Jez
Theyve cut Tomorrows odds to 8/15
 6.
Original sale thread with pics. I was the rapid on the trigger finger one who scored this. I picked it up from the cafe where the courier dropped it off without telling me today. In addition to failing to deliver it, they also managed to crush the scratchplate into the cavity, so another original part bit the dust. First impressions: Lots of work needed, bridge is the ultimate example of tail lift: A couple of missing screws are in a large part responsible for this, the actual bridge saddles are missing, so a whole new one is the plan, torn between the original styled Allparts one, or the more substantial Hipshot one. A nice feature is that it retains it's CMI TRC: It appears to have been stripped, undercoated, painted and clearcoated, but without rubbing down between coats, it was done hung vertical as the drips are all along the bottom edge. So its going to be a full strip and refinish. Usually I finish stuff with danish oil, but I think Ricks are supposed to be shiny, anyone know a home applicable gloss coating? I have time, but not much by way of other resources (there'll be a sale thread to fund the parts). Binding in the pics is actually tape, but there appears to be binding under the finish, and along the neck there is original binding, and tape neck to it as only half the depth of the board was bound. Right now, I've most of the hardware off the body and am contemplating the best way to remove the finish, without trashing the binding. Any tips or advice throughout will be appreciated.
I may have the bridge from an Ibanez Ricky available in the next couple of days as I just bought a Hipshot off this site, then again if I dont like the HipShot I could well have that up for sale...I should know by wednesday

 10.
i'm a person who has very, very specific ideas about what i like and what i want. i also love doodling designs and such. and had the rough designs for this bass drawn up years before i took the plunge to get it made. as i said before, i know what i like. and i just couldn't find a bass on the market that met my needs/wants 100%. and when your hitting the thousands for what is essentially a 'tool' surely you should expect nothing short of perfection. i wanted the bass to be light and strong, so swamp ash and a multi-laminate neck with carbon rods seemed ample for the job. i thought the bass should be nice and bright as the eq can always tone that down whilst also boosting the mids, so maple fretboard it was. as for electronics, i wanted them to be as extensive as humanly possible, partly from laziness (no need to keep going back to the amp for sound tweaks) and becuase half of the time when gigging the backline is shared, so i could not always guarentee that i'd be using my amp anyway. the gyst of the spec i gave to Jon in this area was; SD pickups (custom wound 1/4lb jazz and MM humbucker), piezo with own volume control and a powerful 3-band eq. active/passive switch ('cos you never know). Jon really went to town with this and used the electronics he designed as a base/prototype for his current active electronics and finally looks now this is something i thought long and hard about. i see instruments primerily as tools. and tools are made to be used, i'm not one for wrapping it up in cotton wool, afraid to take it out incase it gets damaged. i'm also in what is essentially a 'party' band. playing at house parties, in barns and on the beach, with lots of very drunk, active people running/jumping about the place. so the chances of knocks and dings is pretty high. so obviously first thought are, nothing too fancy, just keep it plain. but then i though, well it's gonna get worn/damaged regardless of how pretty it looks. and if i'm spending a lot of money, i might as well have something pretty to look at when i'm not playing. so i had the most beautiful quilt maple top and went for a birdseye fretboard and a flamed maple center laminate in the neck. and then complimented the brightness with some darker wenge in the block inlays, pickup covers and controlls. the result still wows me today, 3 years on! (seriously, i still sometimes just pick it up off the stands to look at it for a while!) well..... one of the shots Jon took soon after it's birth the design on the headstock is a sort of abstract play on my initials TS a nice shot of the flamed maple an explenation of the controls more eagle eyed amongst you will notice the 3 switches on the plate. embarrisingly i cant actually remember what 2 of them do, 1 of them is an ultra low freq. cut off switch, very effective at stopping boominess. also inside there's a mid freq. band pot. finally just to give you a slightly better idea of how varied the quilt can be and how deep it is
Id like it if better it had an ashtray & faglighter fitted

 12.
To save me ploughing through the courier thread, does anyone one have any sage advice on a good courier from the US to UK. It looks like my search for a Ric Blackstar maybe close to conclusion!! Any hints on packaging too? Should the strings be loosened off a turn or so?
I have used the USPO several times and NO problems. If its packed secure it should arrive secure..............Theres no garuntees with any couriers,no matter how much you pay.I used the overpriced services of DHL and they managed to lose my ENGL amp between my home and their nearest office a distance of a whole 7 miles Sure I got paid out but at the used insured value which was around half of what it would have cost to replace with a new one. USPO is very competitive and thats a fact.....Good Luck whoever you choose....dont forget to factor in Customs and carriers invoicing charges at this end. Good luck Tony
 13.
Although I withdrew this bass from sale on Friday, I could actually do with selling it due to me having just coughed up for an Alembic Elan 5 string and being financially short as a consequence (so trades are still out). Was a firm £2600 before (or Euro 3,100 for our continental European BassChat brethren) but I will listen to cash offers reasonably close to this. I am not going to keep bumping this daily but wanted anyone with potential interest to be aware its available.
Putting a 1980 LesPaul on EB this evening and if all goes well it should make at least 2k now I know you said no trades but just suppose it does go howz bout that 2K and the P I bought off Tom on here its as new,Dan only used in the studio twice and has no further need of a P.....
 14.
I have recently been offered a bass worth around £200 in a trade for one of my Aria SB1000's. I had assumed the guy would also being giving me at least £500 on top of the trade bass, but no he expected a straight swap! this reminded me of another trade off I recieved a couple of years ago for my American Fender Jazz, the guy in question thought his Mexican with wait for it added Badass bridge was also a fair swap! Can anyone out there better these Super Trades!? Steve.
In the 90,s I had a Honda Moto X for sale on Loot I put exchanges considered, meaning an alternative bike.........................................I traded for a 1955 Fire Engine that I sold on about a week later for a tidy profit... I currently have a Heritage H575 on several sites and have been offered several low end trade exchanges but thats life

 16.
Hi Guys, my 1st post, how exciting I am a guitarist of 25 years who has recently taken up bass duties in our band, which is a mostly punk/rock band, although I tend to play all styles in my spare time, so I'd ideally like flexibility... . I have a P-bass copy, which is OK, and I think a Danelectro bass on the way.... still.... I need to source a decent, but cheapish stack or combo for gigs. It needs to have a decent tone and be able to fill a decent sized pub/hall or whatever over a fairly noisy drummer - hence the idea at looking at a stack with a 4x10 cab. My budget is "a few hundred quid". Probably 300-400 max. I'm happy with s/h and long as it isn't knackered. I like tubes (have a Marshall 6100 stack for 6 string) but solid state is fine if it has the tone. Any recommendations? Thanks!!! Steve
Roland DB700 £200 fine condition looked after and a very versatile amp.....have a google you never know it might fit your bill
