If padding hasn't helped then chances are the problem is not in the nut. local guitar shop for a check over sounds like a safe bet to me. Be friendly and ham up the newbe angle and you might get a free check.
Suddenly Im thinking is the truss rod shot and vibrating or possibly a knackered tuner
 2.
Hi all. I'm looking for a headphone amp so I can practice without disturbing my wife and little baby. Has anyone got any experience with these little things?
I have a Pocket Rockit S1 they are cheap and decent and dont eat batteries unlike some others.
 3.
Right I think a new nut is in order then, I have tried many times with the paper to no success so im going to have to buy a new nut for it. The only question now is what one? (As mines a short scale) and where? Thanks in advance
What is the gap between the string and fret at 1st and 2nd frets.....is this possibly where the buzzing is coming from,if so you might possibly need to adjust the releif in the neck or heighten the strings from the bridge before looking to replace the nutt, however the nutt to my eyes does look poor. If it is the nutt and only on this string it is possible To raise that string by inserting something like a peice of hard plastic from a biro in the cut,its a temporary resolve but it will get you through for a bit
Thanks Lozz.....How do the newer Fender P's compare to the 70's ones? there's a 76 on Ebay at the moment for 1400...
Its simply a matter of taste and to be honest SNOBBERY.........................I have guitars from the 50,s & 60's that are worth a lot on paper,In truth they sound or play no better or worse than lesser known guitars I can buy for £200 to £4oo on the high street.......obviously in amongst them are those I have preference for, they make ME feel good....................................NOTHING can make ME sound any good Go try a few old & new .....make up your own mind....its worth the effort
 6.
Ok so after some more specific posts I've decided to just put it out there and ask you guys what you think the best P style bass to get is..... Obvs i know a lot of people will say Fender but just wanted to test the water, see what else is out there... I currently own a Jazz deluxe 4 string and a Sei 5 string and a fretless warwick thumb, so a nice thumpy P would complete my needs.... Been thinking a bout the Nash basses but can't find anyone that has one or has played one so guys let me know what you think i should try out...budget is up to 1500 Dave
Fender USA Standard for your buck and it just so happens I have one to hand....TA DAAAAAAAAA

If so, it's a maple neck (unfortunately for me). Looks great though.
Yep thats ours....sorry about late reply but we are/were flooded out at home......my boy loved it but realistically could not take it with him
 9.
OMG I am over the moon, I have been looking for a bass to replace a recent sale (one out one in) and I was happily trawling through the Bass shop websites and thought I'd have a look at what Stingrays they had when I saw this headline - 2006 Ltd Edt Musicman Stingray in Black with gold trimmings, I have been after one of these babes since they were released but they have been out of my price range and as rare as hens teeth. Quickly checked the bank account and sweated buckets as the browser took ages to go through the buying process and just got the e-mail confirmation thats shes mine! Only thing left is to try and convince her in doors it didn't cost too much, but being all black and gold I think she won't buy it! looks liek it may cost me additional shoes and a night out for her! ;-(
Now I just know you expect me to slag it offf but ......................Hey I love the colour scheme..very 70.s John Player race team If it came with wide wheels I might just get me one
 10.
Now then, At this point in my life I know that I want my profession to be in music. But how on earth do you make a living in the music industry? I know that it is a long road for most musicians but I am young and lack experience =( So how does someone make a living with music? Personally I enjoy sound tech and I am currently doing a two year course in Music Industry. Please enlighten me my fellow Bass players. Feel free to share your own personal stories and leave tips and advice for young ones like myself, who wish to enter the music industry! Cheers!
Its 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% luck if your looking for the big bucks. If on the other hand youre the techy type work hard in your chosen field and theres decent reward, and more....IF YOU WANT IT. Always remembering its not ever going to be 9 to 5 with weekends free for family. Good luck whatever path you choose T.... If this makes any sense my dad was a pro in the 50,s and early 60's when times got hard he took a job as a dustman......later in his life when recalling his memories to the family and especially to my children he made a point of stating that the happiest time in the whole of his life was that time spent as a dustman.

 12.
Well, some hate headless. Some hate pointy basses. Some hate Fenders. Me? Two of the basses that irritate me are : Warwick NobbyMeidel Headless bass.(Just plain ugly, and the worst headless bass I've seen) Hofner 'Beatles' bass. (just looks boring ,and apart from 6o's tribute bands, who else uses them?) Let's see what you all love to hate
Musicy Mongrels with ROATED TOASTED & BOASTED Necks.............Loadash*te.......scientificaly non proven pants....YO STERLY BABY......GO SUE MY ARSE!

 14.
I used occasionally to do a jam night at the grey horse in Kingston, which Robin Bibi set up. Recently a novice drummer was asking about jam nights in the area, and now that one seems to have died a death. Anyone know of any others? Preferably in Egham, Woking, Guildford or Kingston, but not too fussy...
Basing my reply on your thread title only my suggestion has to be The WI(womens Institute)
 15. USA Fender P in superb condition Olympic White. Bought from Tom in mint condition and then used by my son for possibly 3 to 4 hours in the studio then packed away and now hes off to the States wants to move it on £650 or possible exchange for something with 6 strings that is not a bass. He also has a Walkabout Scout & ext cab for sale ,covers documents etc,Id love to keep the combo myself but he needs the dough...he says... I like it in my living room it looks mighty fine... Looking for offers in the region of £1200 on these but I know hes also looking for a top end reverb amp for use with his telecasters. So an exchange or part ex is always possible.... Thanks for looking T
 16.
If you go to 19977 telecaster bass in the for sale thread, you'll spot it. (Sorry one drop)
PMd
 17.
what SG is it? The faded ones without case are worth least - then the SG reissue bass with normal finish, then the SG Standard reissue with block inlays and inlaid headstock. Value for the bass alone could be anywhere between £500 and £1000 depending on which model, case and condition. Some colours are rare and might add a little to the value too.
Thanks Anyone any idea on the Ampeg gear???? Thanks
 18. Gibson SG/EB3 re issue bass guitar and an Ampeg B2 bass combo amp with 15" speaker along with an Ampeg 2 x 10" ext cab. Any idea of the value of this lot Thanks
 19.
Doesn't seem to be much interest in Teles at the moment. Think I'll end up keeping mine. Have a bump
Thats the reason its a good time to but one for me....which one did you have for sale
 20.
PM'd. BUMP
Roland DB700 250W alright for boozers & small venues and with built in programmable effects & cover thrown in......very versatile amp.............very very good condition.

 22.
Yes, well the point of the thread - I didn't realise I'd need to make it explicit - was that this is a very high price.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH....handbags at 30 paces... Sorry ..Im off
 23.
Today's progress was going and buying Nitromors, a brush, a scraper and some marigolds. Plus the bridge arrived (cheers Beer), and it is the same as the original one, without the banana styling. Venue for the nitromors is the next challenge, not got a garden, aside from a concrete strip accessible through a window.
If thats a bound body then nitomors will soften and distort it at the least....I learnt this when I stripped a bound tele body....Now i tape the binding and scrape it after with a Stanley blade it cleans off paint and gives a nice finish Use wire wool not a scraper it will get into all the dinks and crevices to. Good luck
 24.
NKR Guitars have been trying to sell that for months - I corrected their original (very inaccurate) advert and dated the bass for them. That's a pretty good bass, nearly all-original, rare diamond pickups, very good nick for the age, with the desirable red vinyl finish that most Hofner collectors want to have an example of. It's not worth £695, though. He should get £400, might even get close to £500, but that'll be from a wealthy customer in the shop - not eBay.
I agree...................................... However had it a toasted neck it would be worth thousands HERE I GO AGAIN
 25.
Weekly bump. Bass is also up on ebay.
UK market is on its arse...Im negotiating with a US seller for a similar bass at £1450...... If I had £2800 spare I would have possibly charged at yours Good luck T
