Is a bass more aesthetically pleasing than a guitar?
tino replied to Marvin's topic in General Discussion
I've just placed my bass in the living room, resting against the sofa. Proportionally and generally aesthetically I find it very pleasing to my eye. And in general I think I find bass guitars more pleasing to the eye than guitars. Basses seem more balanced, more elegant. I find guitars stubby and sometimes maybe cluttered (not quite the word I was looking for but close as I could get). This isn't an anti-guitar thread more a question of design. EDIT: I do apologise for the poor English 'Proportionally and generally aesthetically' that's not very good is it now
Simply NO.....SORRY I have many many many many in fact toooo many and hanging on a wall the telecaster or archtop look significantly more attractive....but maybe thats my feminine side All hate mail on a postcard to....... -
It's a cool looking bass. But... What are you using for the body? It's going to have to be seriously weighty to get that thing anywhere near balanced.
Noise cancelling Lead....???

Pickup Advice need for a self build - slightly left field
tino replied to xilddx's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm putting a Chris Squire Electra Outlaw style self build together and I need advice on its passive pups and electronics. CS's Electra has a P-style pup in the usual position and what looks like a Gibson EB/Mudbucker right by the end of the neck join. I've heard the Electras were muddy sounding so .. I'm looking for a P pup with a medium output with an open, deep and rich sound with a bit of high end sizzle, hopefully with good reproduction of the harmonic overtones. Also need something that looks like a mudbucker but isn't at all muddy. It will go right by the neck join and I am after a big rich dubby tone, again with with good harmonic overtones. Any ideas? I'm a bit clueless, especially with the neck options. Possible wiring will be vol and tone with series parallel switch on each pickup. Images of the Electra are here http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/forum/othe...electra-outlaw/ howzabout a EMG-SS, or the later EMG-HB you should be able to pick up a used SS easily enough....possibly not shiny enough though Cheers!
-
I have gone the big Orange valve amp + Barefaced light cab route (plus looking for an ultra-light backup amp). Thus, wonderful though this is, I am letting go my Mesa Walkabout 112 combo. Its about a year-and-a-half old, in very good condition, and comes with a cover I had custom made to protect it. You know the drill on these. Very loud (so loud I sold on the extension cab as I never needed it), very tube-y sounding, and a one-hand lift (50lbs). Looking for £700 picked up or meet-up in London. Not keen on shipping so will give preference to personal meet-up in London area (I live nr Hammersmith but occasionally drive to work nr Liverpool St). PS, Bass Gallery are listing these at £1,349 special order - ie, this is about half new price
Typical....you let us buy one for a grand then put yours up

SOLD: As New Fender American Series Jazz Bass: SOLD
tino replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Basses For Sale
I thought I'd start this thread again as the previous one took on a bit of a diversion I bought his beautiful Fender American Series Jazz bass just under 3 weeks ago but am struggling with the Jazz profile neck. In the meantime I have bought a Fender P bass, so this needs to go to find my latest acquisition. It cost £969 when I bought it and is in immaculate condition. It has never been gigged and only played at home a handful of times. It ocmes with the new style SKB/Fender case, all the candy and is strung with a set of D'Addario Half Rounds. It weighs in at 8lb 10oz. The finish is beautiful and it sounds amazing. The action is very low too. Unfortunately however the neck is a bit too thin for my hands I would like £790 for this with the SKB Case, but will accept £730 for this without a case. I can also sell it for £750 with the older style shaped Fender case (in excellent condition). I edon't want to sell the cases separately. I would consider trades for a decent acoustic/electro-acoustic guitar but need to release some cash on this too. PM me if you want more pictures or any more details. I've also attached a pic of Maria Sharapova for purely academic reasons
Got a 50's Aristone acoustic archtop + £350 .....Any use -

I am now commissioning Martin to build me a 50's Esquire from scratch no pre-cut blanks or ready made necks on this one,I know it will be quite special. Martins a top fella and a credit to his art. If you need anything like this done or just a perfect set up give him a bell on 01992 764647 Hes no more expensive than your local shop
Hello everyone Here i have for sale my Doug Wilkes custom 4 string fretted bass guitar. Unfortunately i have this bass for sale as it is not getting the use and love it deserves. Doug himself made this bass from his home workshop approximately 6 years ago back in the summer of 2004. Since i received the guitar it has undergone at the most 3 gigs and very little practice time, thus meaning that this guitar is in exactly the same condition as the day i picked it up of Doug. The guitar has just undergone a full service by Doug himself, and is in excellent condition. This bass plays beautifully, the kent armstrong pickups offer great tone and versatility and the overall build quality is outstanding and must been seen to be fully appreciated. I can appreciate that Doug Wilkes maybe unknown to a lot of people, in response I have attached a link to Doug's website so you can view and appreciate the quality in which he produces Doug Wilkes Guitars Website Bass Guitar Spec: Mahogany Body Quilted maple top 7 piece through neck Custom veneered headstock featuring Doug Wilkes decal Active electronics Kent armstrong pick-ups Individual pick-up volume control knobs Bass and treble control knobs Strap locks Jack input locking system I will unfortunately limit the sale to the UK due to courier & shipping costs. If anyone has any questions please do not hesitate to pm me, i can supply more pictures if needed. I am based in the midlands (Shropshire/Cheshire). I am looking for £600 English pounds but will take sensible offers. Trades are possible depending on what is offered. Thank you for looking. Lewis C
where are you located
Hi, I need to get this insured really and I was wondering if anyone knows how much these things are worth? I mean obviously to me its priceless! But in reality if someone robbed it, Id be gutted!! Here are a few pictures.. I think they mightve been taken before the decal on the headstock was added. http://www.bravewoodguitars.co.uk/earlyJtype.html Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Best, L1zz1e
No 1 to pursue a claim the insurer will expect a receipt for the purchase price Like you have been told contact the builder an get an estimate/quote of a like for like instrument and then insure against it. I would imagine its like around £1500 today
Hi folks, I didn't need the extra features and wanted to reclaim some board space (see http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?act=attach...t&id=51641) so I have just downsized my Pitchblack+ to a Pitchblack and consequently have a spare Pitchblack+. It's a fantastic tuner. It's boxed and in near mint condition - except for some superficial scratches (can post pics if it's important). I'd like to trade (rather than sell). So if you are looking for one of these and have some spares to offload, make me a suggestion. Is that okay? Cheers all, - Nick.
ve 5lbs of spare potatoes.......any use?

Original case papers and even spare 50,s string sets etc. This has been in the cupboard since the late 60,s Tuner buttons have shrunk but still function well....new strings fitted ..tuned and ready to play. Sell for around £600 or swap for something else.looking for a Jazz or possibly a Mustang/jazzmaster or what have you??
