3.
according to this site http://www.mijfenders.com/frmframe.htm - "Made In Japan" instruments are pre-1997 (recent ones are "Crafted In Japan"), and a T+ six digit serial no. is 1994 - 95
Some of the reissues todat have Made in Japan I bought a brand spanking new Telecaster from Japan in 2008/9 and that has an R serial number and Made in Japan,I know its confusing but it seems to be how it is with the reissue series..........damn those inscrutible nips......they started out perfecting smaller now they have moved on to older
 4.
As title, bought from a friend who left it in its case for the last 10 years with good intentions about learning He does live a long way away so I bought it a bit on spec really hoping I'd like it, I do like the sound very much but it's too big on the neck for me. The first owner bought it new, contracted a fatal disease and never really used it so the condition today is as new. Made in Japan. High gloss see through finish with a great grain, lovely maple neck and board. Fantastic deep sound off the single pickup. String through. Weight as near as I can say is 4.6kg. I have a rectangular hard case (not Fender) that comes with it. They are not made anymore and this is the nearest you'll get to a new one, totally unmolested. Looking for £500 delivered, firm. The only trade I'll consider is a MINT USA Jazz that I don't mind adding a few shimblats to as I know they are worth a little more. Thank you for looking.
Tom as Im very interested can you qualify the age you state is correct as the serial number comes back as 2009 theres also a P on sale on the bay with a similar serial No also MIJ and thats dated as 2009???
Does anyone know who sells pseudo Clay dots to fit to an aged P-Bass neck (70's with white plastic dots that look out of place) Are they really clay? Thanks
I made mine from P38 car filler with wood stain added, the clay dots you will buy are not always the correct size and its a fiddly time consuming pain in the arse fitting them if they are not spot on.....

 20.
As everyone else said, try lots. I spent 20 years finding 2 precisions that I love (a '73 sunburst / rw, and a '75 black / maple) but I went through a lot more than that on the journey to find them. Don't automatically assume that everything from the '70s (can't comment on the 60s ones) will be great... I've played (and owned) some very ordinary Precisions from that era. Also, try a Lakland Bob Glaub. You can pick one up for £650 - £750, and they're bloody great. What Chris said... £1500 should get you something seriously nice in the current climate.
When I said go try lots I actually meant be a lazy sod and come buy my P for £675 OVVVVVNO Those vintage buggers is well over rated

Obvs if i don't have to I'd rather not spend 1500, should be fun doing some discovering tho!
PMd

 24.
I know what it is now, I've taken the string off and the tuninh post is excessivly wobbly, am I able to tighten it up at all?
Its all dependant on the type of tuner???? look for areas where there is wear where 2 parts meet ....put a pic of the tuner up...so we can see
 25.
So....My constant search for a P bass that i like has now led me to Bill Nash..... Whilst i can't decide how i feel about the relic thing rather than it actually just being old i think i'm leaning toward liking it! (especially when taking into account the price)! I'm thinkng of ordering one of the 63 style basses with a lake Placid Blue finish and a light/medium relic as this is the fender that i one day desire! Has anyone got one of his basses or played one? I've played on of his J basses and loved it more than a 76 Fender J I tried next to it.... Let me know! Dave http://www.nashguitars.com/pb_basses.html#
Have you thought of having one built if so then I can recommend Martin Clarke have a look at martinsguitars.co.uk ,not only a marvellous luthier but a damned fine bass player, that way you will get exactly what you want not an off the shelf that 5 minutes later you will be wanting to mod... Worth a look ?? t
