1970 Fender Telecaster Bass

Price Drop! Reduced to £2490 (3950CHF or 2930€) insured shipping included to the EU and Switzerland. Anyone from or traveling to Switzerland is more than welcome to come try it out, of course.

This 1970 Tele bass is bone stock, is all original, and includes both original covers and a non-original rectangular HS case.

The finish is Vintage White, quite close in person to the outdoor pictures, at least on my monitor. It has yellowed considerably, with a lighter area from arm-wear. There are a few tiny dings on the slab body, and a small dark patch on the upper part of the back of the neck; though the back of the neck is smooth everywhere, and is very chunky and deep front to back, very rounded, more 'C' than 'D' shaped. It's very comfortable for such a big neck.

Weight is unusually light for a Tele Bass, around 8 1/2lbs or 3,8kg with both covers, and it balances great on a strap.

Tone is huge and extremely clear. The grey bobbin single coil pickup is very wide range, and with the tone wide open there are tons of highs. Rolled off a bit the tone is beautifully balanced and the low end is huge. I've tried tapes, flats and rounds on this bass, and they all sounded great, and each one really changed the character of the instrument. IIRC it has fairly new DR Hi Beams at the moment and it cuts right through a mix. Plays great, the action is around medium now but you can get it very low if you want.

I'm selling this for the same reason I sold the last two single coil Ps I've owned; they sound great, but I'm in a modern cover band right now and split-coil Ps are better for getting the right tones for the stuff we do, so this just sits in the case.

and some from the person I bought it from in the US:

I have a lot of good feedback on intl. sales on ebay as adamr63, and as One Drop over at TB. Thanks for looking!

It's really nice to see a vintage bass that's been well looked after and been treated with the respect it deserves.

I'm fed up seeing beat up old basses turning up and folk falling over themselves with "wow what a great example" when it's clearly not.

Thanks! The exchange on the euro at the moment doesn't help, either.

Ou7shined, I agree with you. I don't mind even extreme players wear, but abuse is another thing and a lot of old Fenders have just been beaten to heck.

Thank you- it's a truly spectacular place to live, in the heart of the alps, and I feel lucky to be able to live here.

I had a girlfriend from Durham years ago, and went to visit her there for a few days. Lovely part of England, I really enjoyed it.

Good luck yourself, hope you can swing that one.

I've played quite a few and most have sounded similarly well, it's been the condition that varies so much- these were relatively inexpensive fenders originally, I believe, and many were heavily modded, and many stripped to natural, too.

(Sorry one drop)
No problem, guys. The HB Tele Bass (post-'72) is another animal entirely, from the design to the placement of the pickup, making for a very different voice. I'm not sure anyone looking for one would necessarily want or like the other.

True . Don't think yours would be as ''thuddy'' as mine :) Nice bass, good luck with the sale.
Hi One Drop

Am I right in thinking that a UK buyer would have to pay VAY and Duty (around 22% in total) this end to the shipper before taking delivery of this bass as you are based in Switzerland (not in the EEC)?

Thanks
Hi Gareth,

Normally yes (at least I think you do even for used basses), but I'm happy to ship from France, which is less than an hour's drive from here. That would save you the VAT at least, but I'd have to check if any customs duties would still apply.

I also have some friends that travel back and forth to the UK that can bring the bass up by car if you wouldn't mind waiting a week or so for me to make the arrangements.
