  1. I’ve had a good few Squiers and many Fenders. Every US Fender I’ve had was better for me than every Squier I’ve had. I have however had some Squiers that I preferred to the earlier range MIM Fenders, namely the Matt Freeman Precision and those Made in Korea. I’ve had Squier Affinity Precisions that were a joy to play as well so it doesn’t have to be the higher priced Squiers.
  2. Hipshots, easy to install, nice smooth action and most importantly nice & accurate
  3. In my last band I’d say we were semi-pro, it was a legit business and we used to do tours overseas etc. Those tours were hard work, great fun for sure but hard work, after the tours it was nice to get back to the day job for a bit of a rest.
  4. As you say the CMD121 makes a wonderful amount of noise for its size, but once you add in that NY121 you`ll really be amazed.
  5. Yup, a lot of Bolex out there
  6. That’s quite telling in itself, that techs recommend them.
  7. I had three 70s Precisions, a 77 with rosewood fretboard and two 78s with maple. One of the maple ones was seriously the most aggressive bass I’ve ever played, I named it Ian Paisley after the politician as it barked just like he used to. The other two were decent enough basses but IP, well for punk it was pretty awesome.
  8. I’ve seen The Darkness, The Professionals & Stiff Little Fingers there, pretty decent sound for all, a bit boomy at times on the more energetic material maybe.
  9. I’d say if you’re happy with the GK sounds then their MB200 would be worth a look. Cabwise I’d check out the LFSys Monza, as per the link below. Nice & small set up but with some good sound quality.
  10. I think I’ll be associated with black/black/maple Precisions for a while even tho I’ve now jumped ship to Mustang basses.
  11. I like the TC Electronic Polytune. I used to have the BOSS TU-2 and it was great but the TC is smaller & lighter, plus it matches with my TC Clip-on tuner.
  12. At a Bass Bash a good few years back there was a 32” Maruszczyk Precision and it played really nice.
  13. The bass equivalent of The Edge on tour!!
  14. And you probably can’t hear him when he asks for you to sign for the parcels.
  15. Been dry for nearly 16 years now, back in the drinking years it didn`t really matter what it was as long as it would achieve its aim, which was getting me drunk.
  16. Toneriders sound very close to the Fender Custom Shop 62s that came in the US Standards of 2013-16 but at a fraction of the price.
  17. Yes, flew with mine a good few times, never any issues.
  18. Yup, Ashdown are amazing. I’ve had to move on my heavier gear but my RM500 EVO-II still delivers. Edit - my ABM PRO NEO 210 cabs deliver as well.
  19. I think that the post 2012 MIM Standards and the Players are very good basses. I`d say the Players are better due to the pickups, the ones in the pre-Players often sounded harsh to me whereas the ones in the Players much less so. I`m in agreement that the gap between the MIM and US is much less than it used to be, I had a Player as my backup/overseas bass and whenever I used it at no point did I think I was playing a lesser bass, just a slightly different one due to the thinner neck dimensions.
  20. Yep, TC def the best of the ones I’ve tried.
  21. My thoughts are that if Debbie Harry/a.n.other were to sing their old songs in a different way but in key I`d not see any real issues as voices will change over the years, it`s when they just sing out of key and are pretty dreadful to listen to that I think there`s a problem that they should acknowledge and work on how to address.
  22. In my current gigging band at the audition (I really wanted the position) I set myself up so that I could see the drummers kick-drum foot, just worked it from there. I’ve never really had to work independently with him but when we’re working on new material I just do the same, really helps me.
  23. Both now sold Great little wireless kits these, transmitter in black, receiver in white (really helps middle aged eyesight). Works on 5.8GHz so no interference. £40 including delivery in the UK.
