  1. That’s the reason I switched to maple fretboards.
  2. I’ve only needed one once - and typically had been too lazy to take one on that gig. Lesson learned, it’s only one extra cheapie item in a gig-bag, take it.
  3. I think I’d be checking out Spectors, see if they have something that fits the requirements.
  4. Def, Sid Vicious found that out at a gig by hitting someone over the head with his. Probably the best use he ever got from it...

Imo the RM range is a real unsung hero, those of us that have them realise just how good they are but they really slip by the wayside to a lot of people.
  6. I’ve only tried 5-string basses a couple of times and I was surprised at how easy I found it. But then I just played all my regular lines in the same places so essentially as a 4-string. Nothing against 5s, I have considered getting one as am sure it would help on some of the music in my new project.
  7. It is the only sensible way forward.
  8. From what I’ve read Sheryl Crow apparently is quite handy on the bass. Doh - just saw Jus Lukins post.

Congrats, that’s why I went the Ashdown RM as well, Stew. As you say it’s near enough in sound to the ABM, but in a set up that can be carried about by those not in their prime shall we say. My RM500 plus two of the 210s (with upgraded Eminence speakers) is going to stay with me now, don’t need anything else for what I’ll be doing moving forwards.
  10. I was going to add good old Arthur, you beat me to it.
  11. C’mon, how many takes was it for the bass solo then?
  12. Yes, it was only when I read his book I realised he played bass - and given the other musicians in the bands he was in he’d have had to have been good, they wouldn’t have suffered incompetence well.
  13. Congrats, I had one of those and they are awesome, paired it with a Marshall VBC412, a heavy but very satisfying rig to cart about.
  14. Def one of the many benefits of a good producer, that they can hear what will work in the overall mix, and that sometimes that might not necessarily be what would have been expected.
  15. They are better than the previous Standards imo - the pickup sounds better (less harsh) and the necks just play that bit better. As it happens @highwayone I will be offloading mine (buttercream/maple) so if interested PM me.
  16. Looks great, Mark, the cream pickguard really makes it scream 70s.
  17. I’ve kept all my gear in the room where I dry my washing for years as living in a 2 bed flat I don’t have the room/choice to do otherwise, it’s not done any of my gear any harm.
  18. That’s nearly as heavy as some people’s whole collections!
  19. Not sure as I’ve seen clips where she swaps with Earl Slick on Ashes, her playing guitar, him on bass.

    Neodymium???

Yep, there comes a point where practicality has to be the first option. I’m not in a gigging band but if I were my Ashdown ABM gear is just that bit too much for me now, luckily my Ashdown RM gear nails it for me on sound as well.
  21. I like plan A, due to three factors: It would look great Option to send lows to 410, highs to 210 I’m selling an ABM600 on here 😁
  22. Yep. I had the BF410 & 210 and it really was a doddle to move it about. Another thing to consider is transporting a 610, maybe fine in our own vehicles but say a gig coincides with car not working/needing repairs, much easier to get a lift/taxi with a lightweight 410 and leave the 210 at home.
  23. Fender Pino Palladino Sig Precision, everything about it - aside from the fact it wasn’t mine - felt right about that bass.
  24. That’s really interesting re pickups, @thebrig, Custom Shop 62s are my fave but if their sound can be found in something else at at least half the price, well game on!
  25. That’s the one I was going to suggest.
