Cabs are the one part of the rig that I don’t have backups for. I’d stick with the NYs til they actually give up, unless a change of sound is desired, they’re great little cabs.

There’s an 800 on the bay at present for £300 buy it now. Leaves £300 for a cab, plenty of good stuff out there for that.

Would be my suggestion too, Dave prob the best placed. I know for the 10s he usually recommends Eminence Betas but not sure re 15s.

Great suggestion, warm, powerful, can sharpen nicely if needed, on-board drive & compression, def worth a look.

This songs been played on the radio a fair bit recently, the first new music I’ve heard on radio for years that I’ve bothered to look up as I just think this song is amazing (this version particularly good). New album ordered!

I used to have a different habit, take my hand off the neck to reach down to my pint in between songs. My Epi Thunderbirds stopped that the first (which was also the last) time the headstock plunged into the glass shattering it and spilling my beer all over the floor 😠

I know what you mean, Dave, the classic example of that to me are the Andertons bass clips - great players but the tone from the range of basses that is achieved to me is just that, workable, ok, and nothing more. But then some probably salivate over it saying it’s the best tone ever.

They were on the ones I had, but on one I replaced the loom and the shafts on the pots were longer so they sat a few mill proud.

Yes that was the one, had it in sunburst, was just about the only time people ever realised I was in a band/spoke to me. Probably cos it looked like a guitar.

It was the small body, regular scale one. Was a great bass, ideal for rock music as had a nice warm, deep sound to it, and played like a dream. I`d best stop enthusing about it or that will make the GAS even worse!

I think I’m slowly realising that a Precision with the much frowned upon smiley face eq works for me (albeit a lopsided smile, more highs than lows). Whilst depending on amps used it might not be exactly what I want I can get near enough to “me” to not be overly concerned.

In my last band, on the punk/Oi circuit we sold a good many CDs, and a lot of vinyl. Did a hell of a lot of online sales too, resulting in many a trip to the Post Office for our merch dept (drummer).

Not played one myself but I’m yet to encounter anyone who has that doesn’t like them.

I totally get where you’re coming from Steve, at “star” level it wouldn’t concern me but at local level it would, just makes me think that said singers are a tad ambitious shall we say. Just about the only one who imo gets away with it is Spunk Volcano & The Eruptions, a true larger than life character and a great bloke too.

I find playing with a pick to generate more highs in comparison to finger style, which to me is a warmer sound. I’d stick with the same strings to start and see where you go from there, you know you like them and they’ll feel natural to you when learning the new technique. For myself as a confirmed pick player I prefer steel rounds, for years it was Rotosound 66, then Warwick Red Label, have settled with Elixirs, they feel great, sound great and last a long time.

Over the last couple of years I’ve progressed more than in a lot of those prior, a few reasons: I joined a band playing much more complex material than I’d ever played before I decided to play with a lighter touch, so as to make this complex material at least a little easier to master I rehearsed this material at home and with the band using a compressor which really helped as the sharpening & focusing of the notes made me concentrate much more So option 1 can be traded for just choosing more difficult songs to have a go at, 2 & 3 I found really helped

I had our very own @gary mac do a fret level for me, also on a 5 string Fender (but Precision, natch) and it really made a difference to how the bass could be set up.
