  1. 20hz - crazy, would any regular market speakers handle that anyway?
  2. A bit like Bon Jovi then, halfway there
  3. Yep I always pick the sound for the band. The sounds I had for my previous two bands, although both achieved using a Precision, were a fair bit different. And the sound for my current band, again with a Precision is a tad different, though probably more in-keeping with the two bands ago sound than the last.
  4. Basic set up is fine, but fret work, nut work & electrics (other than installing a KiOgon loom) I leave to the professionals, which in my case is our very own @gary mac (sadly minus the curly perm & Capri).
  5. I’m sure two of those would be fine unless in a really loud band or really massive hall.
  6. I’m pretty much the same @Rayman, my tone preference now is more for a warm rounded in the mix tone (which isolated doesn’t sound like that at all btw) whereas in my previous band it was a lot more noticeable, Sansamp type drive & twang. I’ve just joined a band and I love the mix of their album, although the low end of the bass is clearly there it’s very difficult to determine what is actually played, sits perfectly in the mix.
  7. Quality service there, Daves a top bloke
  8. The strange thing I found about playing with a lighter touch was that I also found that my fretting hand didn’t grip so forcibly, which has also enabled me to be a bit more nimble around the neck.
  9. Same here, was quite an eye & ear opener
  10. Look out for STP Promotions, they’re based up your way, and Stu is a great guy to deal with.
  11. Looks like a bass that should have been used in Wrathchild, Muzz
  12. It’s probably down to the wear on it, when I bought it it had a fair bit and I added to it (unintentionally) but it was authentic wear and looked great. I had another virtually identical one without any wear that played/sounded just the same and that one doesn’t hold much fondness at all. In fact rather ironically after I sold it the buyer then moved it on to the guy who is my replacement in my old band. Now if it had been the worn one I might have tried to get it back.
  13. More expensive than as stated, but I really liked the clips of the Aguilar DB599. Not cheap tho, at around £200, but it does sound good.
  14. Yep I thought it sounded great on just the P pickup, especially with the playing/bassline with a pick part.
  15. Just a regular US Standard, Dave, 2015 I think it was.
  16. I’ve been very tempted by these JMJ basses
  17. I kind of regret moving on the one in my avatar pic. I was so intent on shifting everything to do with my last band as in general I no longer needed it all, but it had a good amount of authentic road wear on it which I really liked. Maybe I shouldn’t have been so eager.
  18. I found Markbass cabs to have a high-end roll-off, not that much of an issue though if the cab is the sole provider of the bass. The amount of sound that comes from those BF 110s is amazing, I`m sure it would more than handle the job as required.
  19. Very transparent, not sure if super squishy is achievable
  20. Ashdown gear is both decent and reliable, I’ve had a good few and still have two (ABM600 & RM500). My first ABM600 I used for both weekly rehearsals and gigs at least once a week, plus a good few tours in that period as well, no issues. The Ampeg PF range issues as far as I’ve read never included the 350s - which from what I’ve also read don’t sound that similar to the 500.
  21. Great bass sound on that track
  22. Yeah I’ve found that the little connecting/fixing pin on one of mine keeps coming out - very annoying when coupled with middle aged eyesight.
  23. If you liked the sound of the Peavey their MiniMax 500w amp is under £400. I like similar sounds as Ampeg SVTs and I use Ashdown amps, given the brief I’d recommend the Ashdown RM500 EVO2. It has good flexible eq, drive, compression, is loud and sounds great. Of all the Class D amps that I’ve had (a good few) it’s the one that has the “weightiest” sound.
