  1. Congrats Liam, hope it all goes well for you.
  2. I’ve just bought a Spark, the full sized one. Very impressed so far. With just the bass in isolation it’s easy to hear the gain/drive on it but in the mix I reckon it will just fur up the sound much like when you hear an isolated bass track from someone such as John Deacon. On the track it sounds big and warm, isolated scratchy & driven. When I’m playing along to YouTube I can’t hear any of the drive at all, and this is exactly what I wanted from it, it stops the sound from being completely clean but retains the actual sound of the instrument. Just like valve amp break-up.
  3. I can’t remember which one it was that I had but I swiftly got rid, carrying around 20lbs plus of basses and case in one hand just didn’t work for me. One of the sad facts of getting older I suppose.
  4. We used to rehearse on a weekly basis, even if we had 2 gigs that same weekend. Why am I saying this, well it’s so that if we got dodgy monitor mixed instead of that “can I have more upper mids from the hi-hat in my monitor” rubbish that I see many bands do, we’d be rehearsed enough to do the gig with no beaching & whining. I hate seeing bands, after every song complain about the monitors. I used to give the sound people a mic-chart detailing the line-up and what each of us wanted in our monitors as well to try and combat this. The other thing that really annoys me is bands complaining “why don’t you all move forwards/come down the front of the stage”. They would, except you’re shyte. Rehearse a bit more and focus on the songs rather than the backstage beers.
  5. I don`t know, I tried to find out when I saw them but their manager/road-guy wasn`t able to help, said he didn`t know much about guitars & makes.
  6. Chris has now left, when I saw them a couple of weeks ago Rich Jones was on lead guitar duties.
  7. I’ve bought a couple of albums released this year, the best imo being SNAFU by The Professionals
  8. That is a great tone!
  9. Same for me, necks & playability of Stingrays are awesome, just can’t get on with the sound - tho love it when others are playing them.
  10. I’ve not worked for them, have obviously read the horror stories regarding them but a mate of mine has worked for them for years and loves them, can’t stop him enthusing about how good they are.
  11. That’s what I do, it seems to give me more of what I want than leaving the shape off and dropping the mids.
  12. You could be right. Years ago I decided to not join a band based on the drummers inability to keep time, no idea if the rest of the band had even noticed.
  13. Congrats, looks great.
  14. Definitely. I’ve got an audition in a couple of weeks time so am learning the bands last album. Whether I get the position or not I’ll have learned from learning those songs, how another songwriter works their craft, different basslines and how another bassist might choose their notes (higher to complement choruses, lower on solos for example). Will all be of help to me, plus I like the songs anyway.
  15. A couple for me: Boulevard of Broken Dreams, by Hanoi Rocks And Killed by Death, by Motörhead
  16. Awful
  17. Well they all have their own voicing, so with 2 loud guitars I’d look at which has the biggest surface area. You’d probably be looking at a 210 or 115 in budget, and to be honest for what you’re after I’d be all over this ABM combo on here:
  18. With 2 loud guitars I’d be looking for 300 watts minimum so I wasn’t having to push the amp all the time. An Ashdown MAG combo is available within budget, should easily do the job.
  19. Yes, I had a couple of 500s as backup amps and found the same.
  20. A journey through a storm across country on the cards then.
  21. From reading your responses I’d agree, think the MXR fits your needs nicely. Having just bought one myself they’re a really nice piece of kit.
  22. I’ve found that harmonics seem to sound better/happen easier when I’m using something with a valve in, be it amp or preamp pedal.
  23. It’s the ruination of us all
  24. I think if looking for any changes I’d look at a DI/preamp pedal that sounded as similar to the amp as possible.
  25. Have now reconsidered: After a set up over a few days to my preference and a new set of Elixir steel rounds I’ve now decided that my best purchase of the year is a Fender 2015 US Precision in black/white/rosewood. Worst purchase was a Hipshot BT7 bought for a Mex Precision and which didn’t fit (and they’re advertised as being made for Mex Fenders).
