  1. I’m def of the opinion that it was second time round, as you say with the ‘57 Precision that he got it right (with Precisions of course). Whilst I like the ‘51 & ‘54 types the ‘57 onwards is where it’s at for me.
  2. You can get a special box that allows this, our very own @obbm used to make them but is now retired I believe, hopefully he may be able to offer some advice on this.
  3. Yep, I’ve tried the “classic trio” a few times, but once the novelty wears off I’m left with the P, until the next time..
  4. That is amazingly beautiful, congrats on a special bass for a special birthday.
  5. Lead singer & lead guitarist brothers in conflict with bassist, rhythm guitarist & drummer. You are Oasis and didn’t really split up all those years ago!
  6. That puts a different spin on things, bro-singer may not see it as any kind of issue as it’s possible he’s got very used to it and learned to come in on the fly. Either that or it drives him mad too and wants him reigning in sharpish.
  7. Difficult one, if he really is as good as it seems he thinks then - unless your singer is absolutely amazing - he’ll be the “selling point” of the band. And if you look like getting good work based on that I’d be tempted to let him lead & get the rest to follow. If however he’s not that great and his playing isn’t likely to draw the crowds & work then I’d want to reign him in and get set structures.
  8. For Earth shaking racket in a light 1x15 this would be my suggestion.
  9. Sold Jimmy a pedal, good comms, swift payment and advised when received, good transaction all round.
  10. Once I’ve moved on the ones I don’t need I’ll have 4: 1 - fave US Precision (only home use) 2 - gigging US Precision 3 - Mex Precision (for overseas gigs) 4 - backup Squier Precision All in black/black/maple
  11. Herrick 58 sounds like it would fit the bill: https://www.herrickpickups.com/products/split-p-58-humbucker/
  12. I sense a rousing rendition of Terry Wogans Floral Dance
  13. Nice one, I’m similar, they’ve been a fave of mine since about that time too. Probably the most packed I’ve seen The Empress Stage at Rebellion was a few years back when they played, it was heaving in there.
  14. And good song too
  15. Great bassist, very good inventive lines and a rather individual sound too
  16. Ashdown proving again what a decent company they are
  17. Imagine how Steve Harris must feel!
  18. Same here, not too pricey but good leads and easy to source if a replacement needed.
  19. Agree. I watched a PMT “sound like Mick Mars of Motley Crue” vid. A lot of effects were used but each on their own was barely noticeable and difficult to hear how it had changed the sound. However when the end sound with them all on was compared to the initial no effects sound it was quite an ear opener as to how each minor alteration added in layers to the end result. Probably how AC uses the Sub Harmonic, adds something in but not so it would be identified.
  20. I always shield my Precision Scratchplates with copper shielding tape as a matter of course, only ever had one noisy Precision and doing this sorted it. But do agree with checking out the earth wire too.
  21. That would be my suggestion too.
  22. I don’t mind if the singer is talking about the politics contained in a specific song, the way Jake Burns of SLF does (tho he does ramble on a bit) but if they’re just talking politics between every song and denouncing certain parties all the time I find it a switch off. I’m not fussed if their political views either support or oppose mine, if it’s not relevant to the song(s) leave it at home. In my last band much of the content of our songs was political but it wasn’t anti one party, more opposition to things that take place and have taken place under successive governments of both sides of the coin.
  23. For a very versatile bass I’d definitely recommend these. Ultimately I’m just a Precision man, so the versatility was wasted on me hence moving it on, but if I were a depping or studio musician this would be the ideal bass imo.
  24. In an old band I was in we wrote a song in rehearsals. I came up with the arrangement for the solo. In discussions at a later point re songwriting I asked why I wasn’t credited, and told I was just doing what I was meant to and that wasn’t creative input. My response was OK, in that case tell me exactly what notes to play and when as I’ll no longer think for myself at all when it comes to playing. I left not long afterwards. In no way did I think we would ever make anything out of the band anyway, it was the principle, you have no value as you only play bass.
