  1. Great info re compression there @Boodang never really got to grips with how it all works, that’s very helpful
  2. Definitely, in my last 3 bands my tone has been quite different, chosen to suit both the music style and fit with the other instruments.
  3. I had exactly the same happen with my second Ampeg PF500, on the first time I used it, which is why it got returned pdq and why I no longer have faith in the PF range in general. Shame as the first one I had was excellent, great tone, volume, no issues at all.
  4. Fishy looking eq…….
  5. I’m just wondering if a compressor that knocks a bit off the top end might be the solution. I’m not too clued up on how they work but think Attack and Release times will have a bearing on this too - pick is a very quick attack compared to fingers.
  6. He did but all that was part of the hype, given that Steve Jones liked Elvis and Journey. Instead of fixing the problem and having a band that could play basically but decently he went for shock with poor old Sidney.

  8. Def, on Sp*nk the fluid inventive basslines really changed the songs. It may be because NMTB is how I got to know them so they are my fave versions, but it is nice to hear the earlier stuff with Glens playing.
  9. He fell in lurve and emigrated to come over here.
  10. A guy I was in a band with was in Operation Ivy for a bit, til he came over here. Sensing a possible pattern we were always asking him to leave so that we could become famous too........
  11. No worries, The Post Office used to be owned by Royal Mail Group, but in 2012 the govt sold off Royal Mail/Parcelforce so they are now privately owned, with shareholders etc, whereas Post Office is still owned by govt. Re cabs, no I’m on Ashdown ABM PRO NEOs now, I went over to Ashdown in about 2017/18 and tho eventually found the ABM original series too heavy the PRO NEOs I can handle.
  12. Cheers Pete, I didn’t want to appear over persnickety but we at The Post Office have taken a bit of a battering in the press recently - some will say deservedly so - re the Subpostmaters/Horizon scandal, so would rather we don’t take the hit for another companies inefficiencies as well.
  13. What are you doing to us Ash, this is stunning.
  14. I’d def keep the one with the black plate as it is, love that 70s type burst!
  15. Although Simenon was good imo Glen Matlock of The Sex Pistols was by far a better bassist, his lines on the early recordings show great ability.
  16. Manowar!
  17. Yeah I’ve found that flats just don’t have the top end that I need for rock. I do have a set of Chromes that I’ll try at some point though, they came on a Precision I bought and they play really nicely so maybe with a re-eq on the amp I can get there.
  18. Stadium Stack & Southern Jam sound great
  19. Every time I`ve tried flats I like them for a while, then realise I miss the clarity & top-end of rounds. I`ve tried all the usual supsects re brightest flats and none of them work out. I suppose if I were a Jazz/Stingray/active-bass player flats would work fine for me, but as I`m a Precision man through & through I can`t get what I need from them.
  20. My main basses are all the same value, only the backups are cheaper. There is a difference in quality but not as much as the price tags would suggest.
  21. Can this thread be renamed to Royal Mail Return Centre please?
  22. For sure, if making a focal/selling point over it. I know The Ramonas, great band and great girls, the concept really works imo, what I was meaning was if trying to get as near in looks to the original band as possible for a tribute then many people just don`t fit the look/image. I remember seeing Bjorn Again, and the look, sound, everything was great. I sadly never saw ABBA but they were as near as I think possible to be. It wouldn`t have been so good imo if they hadn`t looked so near to how ABBA had looked.
  23. That`s a very good point, for some I can see reasons, if doing tribute bands: No women in the band - ZZ Top tribute No blacks in the band - Brotherhood of Man or ABBA tribute No whites in the band - Drifters tribute No Asians in the band - the three above No LGBT in the band - can`t see any reason here No non-Brits in the band - can`t see any reason here No over-25s in the band - depends on era of tribute No under 60s in the band - as above Etc. But to me unless there`s a specific image then choosing the right person is a much more difficult thing thing to get right. I know a good few Oi bands which have black guys playing for them. Many people think of Oi as being right-wing, some of the bands are but fortunately many aren`t, these guys were chosen as much for the decent guys that they are as for their musicianship, if you`re spending a lot of time with people in a band choosing good people is paramount. Sometimes a better point to focus on than how they wield their axe.
  24. If I were still in a band playing big venues I’d probably grab a pair of these, the form factor of them makes a lot of sense imo.
  25. Another pedal that needs a PSU! With many gigs spare plug sockets are a luxury.
