  1. Department S, of course, played with them a few times.
  2. Great poster, who`s the guy on the right, pretty sure I know him form somewhere
  3. I read threads such as these and thank my lucky stars that I use Ashdown amps
  4. As well as the gear you’ve mentioned keeping I’d also keep hold of the Sansamp, just as an in case you ever need it pedal, always worth having a preamp/DI around.
  5. Fortunately for those local enough the Northampton branch still has the same area/amount of stock as ever.
  6. Wowzers, didn`t see that one one coming
  7. I could deal with that law
  8. A band I toured with years ago used a Marshall guitar head for their bass, not sure about the cab but it sounded great.
  9. Yep, for me in my last band the bass sound, which included some gain/drive, was an integral part of the bands sound so to us it was essential to have it constant, hence the preamp - not all amps could do that sound, some couldn’t get anywhere near. Whereas in my current band the bass is being a - what I call proper - bass so I’m less precious about the sound, I can get what I need from pretty much most amps. And if I have to use my own amp I’ve found that my Ashdown RM500 seems to suit the band better than my ABM600.
  10. In my last band most of the gigs were with provided rigs or gear shares, I rarely used my own amp. So I decided that it was best to get my sound from a preamp so I could get it, and most importantly send it to FOH at every gig.
  11. The radio was always on at home so until I started to find my own musical direction it was the charts from early 70s onwards, however I class the music I grew up to as a teenager to be Punk, New Wave, 2 Tone and New Romantic.
  12. @DGBass, your description of how your bass is felt not heard is great, I used to love going to see bands where the bassist had a sound like that.
  13. At the volume our drummer (or is that caffeine fuelled chimp maybe) plays there’s no-one on Earth that could hear the fan. In fact I think a 747 could take off and we wouldn’t hear it.
  14. I’ve found that as well, get a sound I’m not that keen on onstage seems to translate out front to what I want.
  15. I suppose because I use Precisions, which have an abundance of mids, I have the opposite problem and have to cut mine so that the bass doesn’t just put too far in the mix.
  16. That may well have been my downfall then……
  17. Jazz bass played with fingers in rock definitely, John Paul Jones immediately springs to mind.
  18. It’s a shame but sadly the bad actions of one employee often impact on companies as a whole. The reality is the poor actions are reflecting the individual and their attitudes but the employer is generally the one that takes the heat.
  19. If wanting to keep with Markbass I think I`d look at the 104HR. A 410 that handles 800 watts (well that`s the advertised spec). I had one, with the 500 watt version of the LMT and it sounded great, plus at 22kg easy enough to move about. You could get the 4ohm version to get max power from the amp but the more-clued-up-guys-on-here-than-me will advise that there won`t be that much difference in volume between the 8ohm and 4ohm versions of the same cab, but adding an additional 8ohm 410 cab to an existing 8ohm 410 cab if necessary down the line would make a huge difference (and look great too). So maybe the 8ohm version would be the better purchase.
  20. Our rehearsal room has these now instead of their previous Ampeg SVT450s. I`ve used these Peaveys a few times and not been that impressed however last night for some reason I happened on a sound that was really good, sounded a bit GK-like being crisp and clear but with good defined low-end, I was impressed, helped make the band sound great. I`m not going to look at buying one as I love my Ashdown amps but I suppose the moral of this story is that sometimes a good sound is in there somewhere, you just have to persist/work at finding it.
  21. The full-fat Ashdown ABM cabs will undoubtedly sound better. Sadly for me they’re no longer an option so I have the PRO NEOs (2 x 210). At home volumes they sound very similar to my old ABM410, on which I had the port sealed. Even sadder is that I’m yet to use them, both rehearsal rooms I use have provided rigs, and the gigs I’ve done since owning them have been similar.
  22. Definitely, the Custom Shop pickups on these are amazing.
  23. No hair No hat Well at least for gigging that is. In the cold weather it’s either a beanie hat or a fur Cossack/trapper style hat.
  24. Def the best range Fender have made, and a great price too!
  25. Definitely, can even add in - if an originals band - competing with yourself to write better material on an ongoing basis.
