1.
Now this is a genuinely frightening song, a masterpiece in the most macabre way. I love Husker Du but that song is too much sometimes.
A lot of Husker Du's stuff isn't exactly a barrel of laughs. Most of Candy Apple Grey is pretty heavy going. I still love 'em, and their influence on many bands is often overlooked I feel. I can hear their sound in so many places.
2. I want one of these-there was one for sale here a while back I would have loved if I'd had the readies.
3. The opening bars of Five Minutes or Princess of the streets by the Stranglers, or probably Are you gonna be my girl? by Jet. Or Rhythm Stick if I was feeling confident.
4. In point (!) of fact, if it wasn't for the headstock that wouldn't be a bad-looking bass. Still got my original Westone Concord I, my first bass from 1983ish. Would never sell it.
5. I use the mesh grip sheet stuff too, never had a problem with my GB Shuttle 6. Of course if you use a wireless setup, the issue of pulling the head off the cab is no longer a problem.
6. A few years ago, whilst packing up after a gig, I folded up my A-frame style bass stand with a snap, and managed to catch the skin of my belly between the legs as they shut. It bloody well hurt, I can tell you, and left a nasty bruise.
7.
I owned this Musicman Sterling Limited Edition for a while.
It might have been this one that Induced me to go as far as PM'ing to ask if a trade for my Shuker JJ was of interest, a thing I thought I would never do, especially as I've never even liked Musicman's (men?). About an hour later I saw sense and realised I would regret it, and withdrew the offer, but this is still stunning, and I still can't help wondering if I did the right thing.
8. This is interesting-had my eye on one of these.
9. Hello Tim, good to see you on here, you took your time! You'll love it-it's been a huge help to me for many years-nearly all my gear came from the sale pages! Folks, Tim is one of my favourite bass players, I've seen him play many times and always loved his no-nonsense style. Welcome.
10. Just bought an acoustic from Rich, everything perfect, good comms, well packed, bargain price. No hesitation in recommending him. Cheers Rich, Mike
11. Are they push fit or screw? I guess I'd be interested in the measurements too. Cheers.
12. 'You let her go' by Passenger sounds exactly like '74,75' by the Connells to me.
13. The middle bit of the extended version of Black Betty I found a swine. We only do the single version, always goes down a storm. Perhaps we should give the long version a go.
14. Mine does foul the edge of the fretboard occasionally, it's also left a bit of slight discolouration along the edge, nothing too noticeable. If I think about it I take it off before I play, but I often forget. I always wear my watch though, although I turn it around to face inwards so I can read it whilst I'm playing-somebody needs to know how much longer we have to go!
15. I had a Japanese 60's reissue Precision which I wish I hadn't sold, what with the regard that Japanese instruments are held in these days.
16. It usually ends up with our bastardised version of Sweet Home Alabama with us, but lately we have slowed it down and done Metallica's Nothing Else Matters. Seems to work.
17. I too have seen this band live a good few times, and they are normally as tight as you can get. Wilko's vocals have never been anything special, but that's not what they're about, and he's hardly been in the peak of health of late. I have to conclude that there has to be a reason for this, admittedly, below par performance.
18.
Oh yeah Hayseed! I only saw eye of the tiger, and is wasn't great for me! I was expecting a killer banjo solo- the banjo player stepped forward in the hole....and not much came out. What are they like as players? Is it just a novelty thing or can they really shred? Because they didn't from what I saw. But that's pretty much my only experience of them.
I've seen them several times, absolutely incredible live, but that was in the days of the Reno brothers on banjo and mandolin. They've now left, and I can't comment on the new guys (the banjo player holds the title of 'Worlds fastest banjo player'), I confess I was disappointed with them on Jools too, I don't like 'Eye of the tiger' anyway, perhaps they'd be better on a different song. With better song choices I'd have liked to have seen them have a bigger part in the show, the band I've seen before would have wiped the floor with everybody there. I quite enjoyed this year's Jools, although nothing blew me away. Although I love Wilko (also seen him several times) and especially Norm, I didn't go much on either song-I noted Norm was using all Ashdown rather than the Trace stuff he favoured before, including one of the all-valve heads, but he wasn't that high in the mix. Still a delight that Wilko is still around to be there at all. Otherwise more of the usual, but there are worse ways to spend NYE.
19. By not playing again until February-but that's the way it is with us.
20.
I recall really liking them 20 years ago, and seeing them once, possibly at The Astoria (?) Off to tinterweb to remind myself....
I'm im a similar boat, I saw them in London Muzz-era, damned if I can remember which venue. Fairly sure I saw them at a festival too, possibly WOMAD at Clevedon but not sure. Amazing both times as I recall although it's a long time ago now.
