1. I'm sure there are better ones, but the Warwick rockbag that comes with their basses (Premium line rockbag?) will do that.
2. Nice one!
3.
Basket Case - Greenday
That's been our end of set for months. we're an originals band, but throw in two or three covers just so there's something most people should know.
4.
And it does appear to be in very, very good condition for a musician's tool that is almost 60 years old - a dog or a careful owner?
My thoughts exactly. If it is genuine though

6. Being, at heart, mostly a fan of the Precision bass, I have to say NONE!
7. The Micro SVT?
8. Not my type.... bit of a slapper
9.
Wanna lift?
Please. That'd be great :
10. This has all the hallmarks of being do-able for me this year (no gig booked that weekend and for once its just after payday rather than just before) Count me in Nic
11. Isley Brothers - Summer Breeze - instant feelgood tune
12. Top pop tunesmith
13.
Usually mrs Clarky saying "you were really good tonight. Maybe next time there will be a few more in the audience" I'm not joking
Same for me except substituting Mrs Clauster for Mrs Clarky Although last night she was telling me how good our new drummer is,
14. You'll all be laughing on the otherside of your faces after the Nuclear War breaks out. Your puny ICs and Transistors will all be fried and only those with all valve heads will still be able to make noise. They'll be unable to play due to horrendous radistion burns and sickness, but at least they'll be secure in the knowledge that their amp heads still work. Valves: Why settle for anything [s]less[/s] different?
15. +1 to the "put it back on your bandmates" or start a new band. You've said there isn;t a lot of opportunity to join exisiting bands around Leatherhead. I used to live not too far away from you and when my band at the time went FUBAR I got on Bandmix.com. Within a month I had enquiries from bands in Dorking, Crawley, Guildford and Horsham. Not trying to say you are wrong (and yes, this was about four years ago, and yes things do change) but do yourself a bandmix and/or musofinder profile, put a postcard in Andertons (and/or other localish music shops) and you will get invites to try out for other bands. I reopened my bandmix acount a few weeks ago because we needed to find a new drummer, I didn't even say I was looking for a band, had no photo and no music clips and I've had invites to try out for 3 bands (one of which I'm tempted by). Whatever you do - best of luck!
16. Wayne, you are as always a gent of the highest magnitude! I'll drop you a PM later (there was a couple of other things to let you know about, but I see J has already let you know about one via FB). Everyone else - thanks you! Burritobass wins the "helping me see the wood for the trees award". I'll carry on saving for the head for now. Ardi - your suggestion makes sense, but I haven't a clue which cab I want (just a long list of those I don't like) but I do know I like the preamps in Ashdown heads. Cheers all!
17.
we all think that what we own is the best
I've got an Ashdown EB180-12. Trust me: It ain't the best
18. My singer's new Hercules mic stand has lasted two gigs so far, which is a bit of record
19. I'm near London but don;t have £330 spare right now And when I do it's time to buy a boring amp.
20. An EB180 will keep up with a loud drummer (and guitarist) if you're not too fussy about your tone. I've had mine for four years and for 2 1/2 of those it was just for rehearsals with a covers band - it was okay for the job, but my bass sounded a million times better DI'd through the band's PA. The last 15 months I've been playing in an originals band (alt/punk/ska type stuff) and its kept up well with a (very) loud drummer. But there is a fair amount of distortion going on through everything been driven too hard. At volume its one tone only and it helps if you can place it so that you get some bounary reinforcement. Fortunately I like the sound. If you want deep bass and a clean tone and be able to use the tone controls, look elsewhere.
21. I've voted "friends farm/barn" but it doesn't quite give the full picture - yes it's a farm but it's also a outdoor activities/team-building centre, so there's a building for meetings/briefings etc that we use. Plenty of power, internet access, kitchen etc etc. £25 when-ever we use it. Which is a bonus if we want to rehearse all day at a weekend. Bit pricey for mid-week rehearsals as we can get proper rehearsal facilities for the same price. Especially now that the owner where we rehearse has stipulated that he wants paying in notes and won;t take coins anymore (there's 4 of us, so until they come out with £1.25 note one of us ends up with a pocket full of change).
22. The time has come that I've realised that I need to make a priority of getting a decent rig. It's been nearly twenty years since I had a "respectable" rig and have used Peavey, Trace and Ashdown combos since - enough there that I can be heard at rehearsals and fine for taking a line out to the PA for gigs. This lat year and a bit I've been doing originals for the first time since the 80s, there's often not much in the way of PA support and now we're being offered bigger gigs my little Ashdown EB180-12 is struggling. Part of me says get a cab in the next few weeks - something with more speakers will get a bit more SPL from the Ashdown immediately. BUT I'm 90% certaing I want an Ashdown ABM head - I like the Ashdown "sound" from their preamps and I like the features the ABMs offer (7 band eq, comp, a valve in the input stage etc), plus the rackmounting chrome version is shiney So a bit of me says, get the head first and then find the cab(s) to get the best out of it (I know I don't like Ashdown cabs). I'd also quite like to get the head brand new (warranty, peace of mind that a monkey hasn't been tinkering etc), but I'll probably look second hand for the cabs (which means, get the head, sell the combo add a bit of cash and buy a cab). Any thoughts? Nic
23. Good to meet you on Saturday!
24. Best of luck WJE! I did the same myself for slightly different reasons in my late twenties and took up again 9 1/2 years later. My one regret when I started up again was that I hadn't kept "my" bass - only a mex Fender P but it was nicer than either of my previous US Ps.
25. For me it's the ever-popular Jazz bass - they just sound horrible in my hands.
