You weren't palying at the Sussex Arms in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday were you?
Even if it wasn't you, someone else has the same setup and it sounds awesome. I've read comments that the GS cabs are a bit mid-shy, but certainly not in your rig.
2.
I'm using a Stingray with Labella flat wounds and an Aguilar DB 750 with two GS 112 NT. It's a fairly light wieght rig that has a real punch to it!
You weren't palying at the Sussex Arms in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday were you?
3.
P bass i would have said. Why wait though? That's months of valuable bass playing experience that could be wiped out unless you get him one now
He's been playing my Squier p - the necks a bit chunky for him (he's only just 13) He tried an Aria and an Ibanez this morning - he found the Aria more comfortable but the Ibanez had the better sound. The Aria had the better hardware but the Ibanez was better finished and a tider neck joint. Seriously considering getting a used Squier Bronco just to see him through until Christmas or his next birthday, when he might have grown enough to fit a full size bass a bit better.

5. Hey Con! Welcome to BC!
6. My last 5 bands have al done Tuesdays..... I thought it was the law it HAS to be Tuesday?
7. +1 on the LH 500. Serious bang for the buck. A used one should leave you with approx £300 for a cab. As 51m0n has said, a used compact would be a good choice (I vaguely remember Alex Claber saying that if he didn't already have a pre-power rack setup, he'd be looking at the new Hartke heads)
8. Hi Looking4Bass, any particular age range you're looking for? Where do you rehearse? How often? How soon do you need someone? I'm fully committed for the next 3 1/2 weeks, but sfter that my musical diary is looking pretty empty right now.
9. Might have to make the treck across two counties as the members were one of my fav bands at the time And for £3.00 you can't really go wrong

A real loss to our BC community. Condolences to his family and friends.
11.
I love this thread
Me too. I keep reminding myself that I've built two home studios in the past and rarely do I get any songs past the "rough idea for a riff" stage Must not browse the Thoman website!
12. Compressors ar such an individual thing that it's realy hard to offer any objective advice. The Trace Elliott SMX gets a lot of love on Basschat, but when I had one I was completely underwhelmed. The Monte Allums modded Boss CS3 also gets a lot of love, and I certainly loved mine for a couple of months after which it started to sound too "obvious" to me. The problem with 90% (or more) of stomp box comps is that they don't offer any control over some of the parameters. I've come to the conclusion that rack is the way to go unless you know which stomp box is right for you
13. Nothing wrong with running two sets of monitors - one for "proper" monitoring and the other to see what the mix sounds like through "real world" amps and speakers.
14. I hope you get it. Can't wait to hear it mic'd up through your rig
15. You've got the heart of a nice studio there Chris. More memory is always handy in any computer. But I would give higher priority to a fast Firewire 800 External drive for audio. But, you'll probably be okay without either until you're recording the full band live. What's next? Monitors?
16.
Yeh but you're losing the ability to automate.
No you're not, you're losing the control surface for automation. You can still do automation via the mouse.
17. I'd go for the better graphics and get a fast external HDD for the audio.
18. If you're not bothered about file sharing, then go Protools - you'll be up and running a lot quicker than you will be with Logic. Plus, should you win the lottery, you'll be forwards compatible with a full Protools HD system
19. Regarding the point of why buy protools (or any DAW) and use an external mixer for mixing when you could use the built in automation - it's giving the computer less to do. So better latency, more tracks and more stability. The commercial studio my band uses when we want better results than we can manage on our own has 48 channels of Protools HD, but they still use a Neve analogue desk for recording and mixing and hardware dynamics and EQ porcessors.
20. If the guys in your band are using Logic, I'd consider going Logic too just for compatibility's sake. EG - Our singer has a nice Logic set-up. I don't have all the i/o and mixing facilities, but I do have the ability to bring projects home with me once the guide tracks and drums are done and work on the bass tracks at my leisure before taking it back to the singer. Edit - yes, it's not necessary, I could just bring home a stereo mix and record the Bass as a wav in any audio rcorder. But its nice to be able to boost the drums I want to hear
21.
No one has mentioned Record - the new DAW from Propellerhead. I've not tried it but it "sounds" great.
I've tried it and it is great if you want a way to work with recorded audio in Reason. I'm not sure I'd recommend it over (or even on a par with) Cubase or Logic for a serious home studio.
22. Beedster, to use your own analogy..... The vast majority of computer recording software is Precision vs Jazz. I voted Logic because it's the one I've been using most recently alongside Garageband. A great combination because GB is so immediate to use, you can get your ideas down with the minimum of fuss as soon as inspiration strikes, then import into Logic when you need greater functionality. The Encore vs Sadowsky analogy comes in when you compare all the others to a proper Protools HD system, but as with Encore vs Sadowsky we are a talking a whole different cost as well.
23. Warwick 5 stringers always seem to get some love, and you'd pick up a nice one with that budget!
24. Are used CV Jazzes already hitting the market at £100-£200? If so, grab one! As slddx has already said, the Rockbass range offers fantastic value for money. The new ones look particularly nice with teh W logo and the 2-piece bridge.
25. Nice one! Congrats
