1.
Hi, Id love to attend and have a nosey? happy to bring my cheap as chips Thomann along, with some entry level combis and all set up for slapabilly if that might interest peeps? Havent been playing for long so can share experiences with any other noobs?? Pencil me in and I'll sort logistics?? FB: demhowlinbones
The more the merrier I say!
2. I love my modded usa Fender Jazz V, it was probably luck over judgement so I'll add a +1 to Bubinga5's xotic.
3. I find it's all in the neck dive, tip a P bass up and see how it sounds, if something is missing try slicing your fingers on your right hand until they bleed a bit! Man they look good though!
4. Oh man that's very sad, I liked colgraff on here
5. I still want a 55-94 or a super rare 55-76 , if we slag them off enough I might be able to aford one sooner!
6.
I would say I'm an East Coast NYC 70s Style Pop Bass Guitarist. Blue
You can't just choose, you have to take the quiz
7. I'm a flea too, well I've got a bass like the one it the give it away video, that's where our similarities end I'm afraid.
8.
well said pete
Seams simple enough doesn't it? Ha
9.
Leverage isn't a verb, it's a noun. Using it as a verb is abuse of the language. So, have you been musicianing lately?
Wrong again I'm afraid mate http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/leverage
10.
Did you remember to check your bass was plugged in? (joking, of course... but 'a friend' of mine once had issues with his gear that turned out to be fixed simply by plugging in )
I had a backline, 900 watts of it, not much fun without hearing the guitar or vocals though Guitarist was ampless and using a Godin synth guitar for some and a Variax for the rest, disaster.
11.
I'd like to attend. I can bring my mid-60s fully carved 3/4 Reghin.
Sounds good!
12. That's not verbing anything though, it is just a noun and a verb, musician is a noun only.
13.
A musician is someone who makes music. The rest is adjectives, one of these being 'a bad musician'. The tools are irrelevant, the skill set irrelevant, the methods irrelevant. The only defining characteristic is the presence of a person and the creation of music. I struggle with some elements of this, DJs being my main blindspot, but, in the end, I am not in charge so it's not my call. Human being who makes music, end of.
I agree I'm still waiting to hear what being 'verbed' means
14. I use one of these for my total db live sound now, no feedback is bliss! I've got it via a fishman plat pro and it's very passable for my skills.
15. There was NOTHING like this around when I wanted my first DB! Total bargain
16. We just did most of the 2 hour set with no back line or monitors, I think I've found the point where you do need something! Pah, sound guy that didn't know what he was doing
17.
Watched a band in my local a month or so ago do Leader of the gang but changed the chorus to "D'ya wanna be in Thailand Thailand Thailand." Genius They could just about play ok but couldn't sing a note between them but one the most entertaining and audience engaging bands I've seen for a while.
I was working at a school last year, they have an after school club run by the local church, I could hear them playing a cd to dance along to, "do you wanna be in god's gang, god's gang, god's gang?", errr no I'm good thanks
18. When you think how many minis were scrapped due to rear frames it is crazy, you can have a drive in exchage done these days, they build them up before you arrive with brakes and cones etc, turn up and go for breakfast, they take off the exhaust, whip off the frame, clean and underseal, repair patches if needed then put the new one on, bleed the brakes, adjust the handbrake, refit the exhaust and away you go better than new with poly bushes and a good dose of protective paint etc.
19.
Now that I come to think of it, wouldn't this be just as handy for us bassists for our dynamic control?
It is one of my many weaknesses that need work but at least electric basses can be turned down on the amp, if the drummer is too loud before the pa is even switched on something is going to give, The OP's nerves in this case
20. Shame, them vans fetch big money these days!
21. Can I have the past and future tenses please?
22. I'm no expert but something sounds a miss to me?, lol. I waiting for other nouns to be 'verbed' , any suggestions?
23.
On a similar note: 1. Don't pay the asking price. 2. Don't accept the buyers lower offer
Those are all in the build up to mine though, if paying more gets you a bass you love then that's ok,if selling your bass cheap gets you into another deal that you really want that's ok too as long as my parts 1&2 are the final result
24. I can't see how having a choice in anything can be worse or 'suspect'? I can still take the less appealing gigs if I want or let someone else have it, the fact it is coming to me first in that instance to either take or decline tells me that my overall standard of playing and professionalism is up to that level at least. Let's have a look at this from another angle, you play for a living, other people do different jobs for a living, some people actually enjoy their jobs just like you believe it or not, if I turn down a job because I dislike the customer, the parking is terrible and my van will probably get damaged there and I have plenty of other work to do does that make me any less professional in my work that I do carry out? Just like in my musical career I might try and help the customer out by passing it onto someone else that is looking for work, at the same time thankful I've dodged a bullet. Anyway I've got a nice paying gig in a nice venue tonight for a nice customer so I better get going
