1. fwiw I do not hate anyone, the internet term "haters" is nonsense really isn't it? I hate ISIS, but not old Adam, I do not even hate Donald Trump, hate is a strong word IMO.
2. I am a total convert on elec bass to 5 strings, three Stingrays all with great B strings and a USA Jazz V with a great B and a preamp wedged in it. I do not own any 4 string basses anymore and they feel weird to me now, I still miss my pre EB Ray that Foxx has as his avatar but I know I would not use one if I got another.
3.
I'm not a big U2 fan but I entirely agree. We read a lot of posts about the merits of 'serving the song' and surely this is what Clayton does in spades? And given that U2 are one of the most successful bands in the world his contribution is surely beyond reproach. Someone mentioned jealousy earlier . . . .
I really do not get the jealousy thing, can I not just be allowed to not enjoy a band without being anything other than just not enjoying it? Does there have to be a reason, jealous, ignorant, not musically educated enough, etc etc?
4.
Their lead vocalist and front person is very good. Blue
Oh yes, she is in the charts as a guest vocalist for another artist at the moment I think too. She can belt it out and get the crowd going!
5.
Just saying beware of offers of free ac adaptors
Yeah don't bring anything with a funny plug on home! Even it it's free.
6. Does it matter if some bloke on the internet doesn't like someone that you do?
7.
The problem is that checked-in baggage is very often mistreated and not infrequently lost or misdirected, while many instruments are fragile, very valuable and, in the case of professional touring musicians, the tools they use to earn a living.
They are also often far too large to not go in the hold. My double bass wouldn't fit inside a Ryan air cabin in its soft case anyway. If you have a small instrument like a violin and are being denied entry with it as a second carry on item then you need to combine the violin and your hand luggage into one item, small case with your other items packed around it, if you are trying to use the cabin case for all your clothes (as I do) then bumping your gums because you want to take the violin on too that's tough poop, book the clothes case in the hold and take the beloved violin under your arm with your werthers originals in your pocket.
8. It's all about psychology imo, people who like a musician can't understand why anyone else would deprive themselves of the same enjoyment missing the fact that the other person legitimately does not enjoy it, we see the "ignorant", "had to be there", "jealous" type posts slung at anyone that steps out of line, all nonsense I'm afraid for those of you that keep trying to hammer that home. On the flip side the naysayers are seeing a strange position that the fan is putting themselves into often defending an artist as if they have some kind of input just because they bought a few records and go to live shows, I'd imagine getting far more upset than the artist themselves would, it's all very odd but it makes is human I suppose. Fwiw I don't dig Jaco,Clayton or King.
9.
Perhaps it's a no win situation. I use light 40-90 strings, anything substantially heavier doesn't feel right. So it's possible to dismiss a bass simply due to the wrong strings. Should I spend + £500 on the chance that it would sound and play "right" when I change the strings?
Surely they are guitar strings?
10. If it's small it's hand luggage just like everyone else's, if it's big it's checked in luggage that you pay extra for just like everyone else. I don't see the problem?
11. It will be fine, 9v dc is 9v dc the world over
12. Great picture Kev!
13.
Yes, but if the EU and the US had similar rules, it seems likely that flights to or from either of those destinations would be covered. It wouldn't make much sense to have different rules at either ends of such flights.
If the rules can be different between the US and EU as they are now they can be different between the US and the UK, the UK and the EU.
14.
Im with pete.... Body on one case , neck in another.... Safely packaged in clothes..... If they do ask, tell them you took it there with you to play a gig with friends during your stay Go on, live a little
If it is a Flea relic Jazz they wont know it is new anyway either!
15.
On that Joni Mitchell track the bass sounds like they accidentally mixed in someone noodling over another track. Sounds like someone making comedy fart noises with their armpit in places as well. I really don't get it ...
Ignorant,
16. I've only ever recorded an actual bass amp once in a studio, I liked the kidney POD too.
17. Not sure about 35" but a SGC Nanyo Bass Collection would be on my list?
18.
... ahem wasn't there a little vote not long ago?
I made that point earlier, maybe the Brexit brigade should have thought about this before voting!? Ha
19. Could Katie Melua songs really not be performed unless she had the instruments from the UK with her?
20. If the flight leaves or enters the UK and we are not in the EU then you'll need to lobby the UK too. I still don't like this "musicians need special treatment" thing. The cheap airlines are providing a cheap service because they know they can fill all the seats with holiday makers and the hold with a case each, I'd agree that you should be able to pay for a seat at full price other than that I see no need to alter the rules.
21. Well as just over half of the UK have voted out of the EU is there any point signing it anyway?
22. Even as a musician (of sorts) I wouldn't sign it. Why should musicians be treated differently? I wasn't keen on Katy Melua before and I suppose not having a new song in a decade means she can't afford to pay the extra few quid to put the guitar in the hold but I've gone off her even more now.
