I don't think owning a Fender is snobbish, in the grand scheme of things they aren't that expensive, most of the alternative versions I'd want instead of my US Jazz V cost quite a bit more.

I have a lovely Maruszczyk Elwood 5 string jazz bass, it is superb, but im longing for a Lakland 55-02 Deluxe that i have seen.. what is wrong with me.!!? Why is the grass always greener on the other side.?
[/quote]
I must admit I'd prefer the 55-02 to a Jazz bass, throw in the deluxe and it's a winner

IME on all gigs, even the smallest, a little PA support for the Bass drum tightens up the sound of the whole band.

That's my thinking too, unless you have a huge kick drum that is well damped they sound poop, of course there are gigs small enough to not need it but then they are vocal pa and a combo sized amp as backline anyway ime.

I've been experimenting with this a lot , I use a barefaced super compact with a Ashdown ABM head for small gigs as it saves me carrying two active subs for the PA .

What about the kick drum?

That is true
I'd love to see "Blackeyed blonde" played on a DB

A shameless plug. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/288305-gl-tribute-l2000-trades-1025-passive-5-or-gl/

Linky fixed and copied, what a bass for £300, crazy!

To think there will be people handing over the thick end of a grand for a Mex Fender in shops up and down the country today when they could buy this for £300 makes me wonder what the world is coming to?!

First time I've seen/heard "King Thumb" actually playing with a band! Quite a tasty player!
As is this guy - Jodie Bremaneson of Skerryvore. With a lovely blue G&L...

Don't tell the class D naysayers as he appears to have a great sound with a Genz head, what a fool, if only he knew about all the heft he was missing out on!

Is that blue around 50 seconds in?
Flea has done some awesome non slapped songs, Soul to squeeze is always a killer.

The perfect rhcp track imo and not on any album!
He was hardly going to say "I've sold musicman and been secretly working on these with George and they are ok, the preamp can be fiddly for some people and it won't hold it's value like a Fender" was he?
I'd take an active bass and a class D amp over a passive bass and a heavy lump, that said I can't get on with a passive bass and a class D head, it misses something no doubt about it for me.
I don't find much influence from the J into the Stingray and then there's the Sabre bass before G&L and the L1500 with a single pickup before you get to the newer models.

So Status, ACG, Iceni, Warwick, Yamaha no good?

I prefer musicman, g and l, fender, Lakland.
I've got a Yamaha, pics are in the "so who rides motorbikes?" thread
