There's loads of good places for lunch past the immediate vicinity of the major rail terminals. If you're in Camden, check out Ray Man Music just north of the Lock for more eclectic selections of instruments. Camden Market can be good to get lost in for an hour or so, but it'll be crowded with goth teens on a Saturday.

And the sound was mixed from the live show on Tuesday for the Friday show - sounded much better on my TV, but still not great.

Might next effort was Enter Sandman: ||: E E E E E E E F :|| which gets a bit bumpy probably due to the buffering problem you mention. Any tips on how to increase buffer size?
  5. I'm joking What would be good is to drag around the notes once you've played them - I just played the Smoke On The Water intro. The tab was right but the playback was lumpy and the timing different to what I played. I'm using Google Chrome on Windows XP, sp3
  6. Maybe they'll fix the mix before Friday's show. They did with Vintage Trouble a couple of weeks ago.

  9. +1 for Etymotic ER-20. Less than a tenner on eBay - I recently bought another pair from seller hear_for_life, who come recommended. They turn the volume down without muffling the sound. You can hear loud gigs better with them in.

I've got a picture somewhere that I'll dig out later. It's a lot more basic in terms of electronics and hardware than my 12/4, so I suspect it's originally from the mid-70s, compared to the late 70s of the 12/4. I've had some work done - the 8 neck was bowed in a way that the truss rod couldn't fix: it was fine above the 5th - 7th fret, but lower than that was unplayable - if exaggerated it'd look like the business end of a ski. This was caused by not letting the wood sit for long enough before gluing it - a common fault with this era and manufacturer, apparently. The repairer unglued the fingerboard vveerryy slowly and reset it once the wood had been given a chance to settle. Also, I had a new nut installed so I could reverse the sense of the tuning - the octave strings are now closer to the floor than the fundamentals, as I always play fingerstyle. If I sold the bass on I'd switch back. The 4-string neck is typical Shergold - plummy, woolly 70s rock. I paid £450 for it in the early 2000s, maybe 2002 or 03. I've had a case made for its big brother (the 12/4 Custom Double), and this one inherited the hand-me-down case. I've had it valued and it's now insured for well above that value. The serial number is 8401. Shergold SNs were often (for double necks) made up of the two necks' string counts, then a production count. So my 8401 translates to 8-str, 4-str, and I've got instance "01". It's possible I may have the first 8/4, but I can't be certain. I've got a fretless Stingray with 3-band EQ and piezo. I can probably count on all of my thumbs the number of times a bassist has said to me after a gig "um so why's your Stingray got 5 knobs then" Agree with most - trust your ears and you won't need lines.

  20. I started off a bassist, and still consider myself very much that, but noodled around badly on guitar as well. I ended up paying my dues as the Rutherford in various Genesis tribute bands, so had to do my share of 12-string fingerpicking and strumming too. It's definitely helped in knowing my way around the neck on both instruments.

Very happy with it. (18 month waiting list though)
