1. Feb 9 at Dingwalls in Camden Town, Jamiroquai's rhythm section are doing a gig for a fiver with a guest vocalist. Paul Turner's there for sure. 2. Songsterr's got it right: http://www.songsterr.com/a/wa/song?trackPos=0&id=7743 (unlike other well-known tab sites I could mention) Also, the original version has a few bars rest before the solo starts, gives you a few moments to think "nah i'll be fine gulp ohshitohshitohshitohshitohshit how do I do it again aieee" A deceptively tricky piece to get right! I suspect a bit of thumb-middle-thumb-index will help with the plucking hand.
3.
Walk softly and carry a big stick
"It’s a kind of a totemistic thing you know, but to be quite frank with you, it’s come in useful in a couple of situations. Certainly in the topsy, turvy world of heavy rock, having a good solid piece of wood in your hand is quite often... useful"
4. That'll teach me to never look in the gigs forum
5. I'd have gone if I'd known! Been hoping to catch him for ages and didn't know about this - and I work on Shaftesbury Avenue! Where'd you hear about it?
6. I got 99-100% in all except Social Creativity, which was 70%. Apparently I'd be ok at clapping along :|
7.
I was thinking of doing mine with name, number, email and bass player written in lower case in pale grey on black card. Simple and clean, but I don't know if this is a good way to go in aesthetics.
Be careful - the more black in you have on there, the more it's likely to smudge (depending on ink and paper quality of course) - especially so if it's in your wallet rubbing up against more cards or other stuff)
8. I've got my avatar pic on my card, along with name, number and email address. I got 50 printed as a special freebie (all I paid was postage) offer from moo.com via the popbitch mailout, so it's got both of their names on it in very small print (I could have paid for a non-ad version). Very good quality, highly recommended. (btw my avatar pic was drawn by an computer games art friend where I used to work, based upon some well-known prog rock artwork for a band I was putting together that sadly came to nothing)
9. If you look in the right place on Mick's website, you'll find some short transcriptions of clips from assorted songs from over the years. Very educational and inspirational.
10. At a tribute band festival in France, at the climax of a well-known 23-minute long progressive rock song, the entire on-stage power goes just as we launch into the finale... all that's left is unamplified guitar and voice. Oops. Stick a Euro in the meter, someone
11.
has anyone got a version of 'Christmas Wrapping'? Edit - Too lazy to go looking, or to figure it out.
It was transcribed in a Christmas issue of Bass Player a couple of years ago if that's any help
12.
I KNEW there was a reason I came back XD Trying to work out 'all I want for Christmas' and 'Santa Baby' at the moment. Also, 'not tonight santa', because innuendo-filled songs are endless fun I could google it, but where's the fun in that? If I get it done and it sounds decent I'll post the tab. This may not happen until 2019.
If it's innuendo you're after, check out Clarence Carter's "Back Door Santa"
13.
The BDDI has a DI out and the VT doesn't. The VT does much more drivey options also. I use the VT, but I have a paradriver on the way (sat at the PO depot actually).
Unless you get the VT Deluxe that is. I'm currently a happy BDDI user (no trouble with scooped mids btw, ymmv), but have the VT Deluxe on my shopping list.
14.
Nope, I like Stevie Wonder. The bassline itself is ok (just), but the song is lame. Very lame. Having another listen (again), they'd be better covering the theme tune for Smokey & the Bandit!
They probably have!
15.
Sorry, but I think it sounds like 70s cheese. The bass sound is ok, but the song using that sound is pants.
I'm sure Mr Wonder will be terribly distraught to hear that
16. Mine too! I thought I was the only Phish fan in the country I tried to get tickets for the Halloween run, failed of course. Thanks for the link - I've seen it before, possibly linked from here, but good to see again. Bookmarked.
17. Phish's version of Stevie Wonder's "Boogie On Reggae Woman" from their recent Halloween show.
18. Aria's are great. I still use my purple-sparkly MAB-40 that I got nearly 20 years ago. There's a fretless version on eBay... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-Pro-4-string-fr...r-/110611710625 99p!
19. I live fairly locally - if you want to save the £30 I'll quite happily go and get it for you and bring it over.
20. It's not mine but thought some might be interested: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Akai-Professional-SB...5#ht_952wt_1138 After hovering below £200 all weekend it's just jumped to near the £400 mark... BC "The Price Is Right" sweepstake! How high will the final price be? Closest guess without going over wins a prize.
21. Captain Beyond's "Dancing Madly Backwards (On A Sea Of Air)" Sounds hard. Is, briefly, then isn't.
22. Have a look at www.songsterr.com for tabs as well.

24.
So what did people think? I thought the Boosh were mildly amusing for about 5 minutes and then I could happily have lived without them! ZPZ was a lot more 'structured' than when I've seen them before - obviously helped by playing all of Apostrophe I quite enjoyed it & Dweezil is a fine guitarist but I seeing big Frank up on the video screen just made me wish it was him in person. I saw him live a couple of times and he brought so much presence to the stage that Dweezil doesn't really have. Enjoyed seeing Scott Thunes, looks totally different but moves exactly the same & still throws some cool shapes, lol. Surprisingly high 'twat' ratio in the audience near me. A fight nearly broke out at one point, lot of people really pissed wandering around & one git who was insistent on shouting out lines from the Apostrophe album just before they were actually sung live to show off how well he knew the album. Eventually someone gave him a good talking to to shut him up
An extremely enjoyable evening! It seemed like everyone I'd ever been to a gig with was there - and it was the busiest I'd ever seen the Roundhouse (agree re twat-ratio too, sadly). On-screen Frank worked surprisingly well, and it was cool having him "there" at gig volumes. Has anyone got a full setlist? The Thunes/Moon Unit-assisted Valley Girl encore was just brilliant. I'd seen Moon and daughter Mathilda wandering around the venue earlier, but of course didn't twig who they were until they were on-stage. (Valley Girl clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-48qRb5wefI) Boosh: not as good as I'd hoped. I went along with an open mind, not really having seen them before. (Actually I've seen Julian Barratt more in the audience at the Jazz Caff or the ex-Spitz than I have on telly with TMB).
