  1. I'm not sure what's worse, trying to remember a song that you haven't played for over a year, or trying to work out a new song that you've never played.

worse? I do both for fun haha...

I definitely play for fun. I don’t get an awful lot out of going over the same sections repeatedly whilst trying to work out what’s going on, especially when it’s buried in a horrible mix. I got to the end of the set in the end. It’s surprising how much comes back with ‘muscle memory’.

Yeah it can be a real slog, but the eureka moments hopefully make up for it at times!

  2. I saw this post pop up about a minute after @TheGreek posted it and that was my initial thought too. I don't think Geddy would regard himself as such. He's a hell of a bass player and one I very much admire, but I'm not sure about musical genius - whatever that is even?
  3. Great player for sure, but what has Ross King got to do with it? 😂😂
  4. I must admit I’ve been victim of low ceiling headstock collision myself. There’s a club in Chelmsford called The Basement with not only low ceilings, but they are a lot lower in certain areas than others. We even had to move our set up around a bit as our guitarist is quite a tall chap and he would have had to play and duck at the same time. At the end of the first set I undid a strap lock and lifted the bass slightly to slide the strap off and ‘boink’. Horrible moments them, you kind of dare not look. Luckily it was a machine head and no damage. Tell you what, I never did it again in all the times I’ve played there.
  5. @41Hz - ticks all your boxes I think?
  6. Just saw this and thought of you.
  7. That is just gorgeous. There was someone looking for a sub £500 5'er very recently. I'll tag them if I can find the topic. They'll get a right bargain.
  8. It is the actual Madness.
  9. To be honest, I've never seen that type of page. The way I've always found a topic I've started is to go to My Profile > See Their Activity > Topics. It's never failed me.
  10. Do you have them sorted in the correct order? i.e date started?
  11. Well, it appears as though the two topics you've mentioned are there for @ped and I, but not visible to you, so logically....
  12. I just checked your 'topics started' and they are both there. Leads me to believe the issue is at your end.
  13. I love that little staccato pan of the guitars.
  14. I love playing Madness songs. Been a while since I’ve depped with the Ska band. Hopefully I’ll get a call again soon. The Bruce Thomas will be perfect 👍
  15. You could be on to something there! I assumed, possibly incorrectly, that the room in question was upstairs. If so, the footprint of the pit could make a interesting talking point as it protrudes from the ceiling into the lounge. But for a bungalow or downstairs music room, your solution is genius 👏👏👏👏.
  16. I would get a 1 meter square mat for the floor and spray ‘STAND HERE’ on it in a very bright rattle can paint. Maybe put some bumpers around the edge of it to prevent you from straying outside the square. Given your predilection for not knowing where you are, I might add some hazard tape to the perimeter of the square/bumpers, just to keep you focussed. Then, now this is the clever part, directly above where the 1 meter square mat is, cut a matching hole in the ceiling. You might have to make the ceiling hole slightly oversize to counter the reach of the neck when you remove it, but I honestly can’t see any flaw in this method.
  17. I missed that too. I was in too much of a hurry to get to the photos 😂
  18. One of my favourite sayings right there and you are quite correct 😂.
  19. Alembic SC’s are great basses, but I’ve yet to find one I enjoy playing in a standing position. As long as you enjoy your Gibson, that’s all that counts. I’ve read your first post again and I still don’t understand ‘Yamaha screams/cheap’, but I’m now beyond caring to be honest.
  20. Clutch are also instrumental rock band The Bakerton Group.
  21. I'm thinking white, but I can see why you're asking. Some of the photos do have a tint look to them. What is the weight of this bass please?
  22. Your trollish behaviour has earned you one less reader of what could have been an interesting topic.
  23. Well, just under 90 minutes to go and I think I'm a fairly safe bet to finish Q1 with ZERO bass purchases . The rest of the year is looking a bit dodgy as I've just finalised the spec on a custom build. Deposit to be paid next week. I did try 😂.
