obbm's feedback

Just ordered and received two microphone cables from Dave. They are superb, and seemed to arrive almost instantly! Rock Wires Rule!
  2. Bur access is awful for that particular part of the venue. ..
  3. Was on the way to a wedding gig at the China Fleet Club when the guitarist called and said thst his wife had pranged the car. We were supposed to be supplying PA for the opening act and he carries the PA. Bum. Much franticness, but we got it sorted. The first act had a small but entirely adequate system with them anyway, so problem much reduced if not entirely solved. And it was a great gig!
  4. Additionally, I find it a really weird thing that people dislike new basses BECAUSE they are new. I love them shiny and new, and do my best to keep them that way, while accepting that wear and tear happens.
  5.
Simply move your belt buckle to the side (one loop to the left or right). Problem solved.
Been doing this forever. While my basses do get marked (after hundreds of gigs, it's difficult not to acquire a scar or two), they don't get battered into a relic in anything less than geological time!
  6. Another BIG wave for Wunjo's. Can't praise them highly enough.
  7. Currently analogue. However, if the Samson Airline bites the dust, it will be a digital Line 6 all the way.
  8.
I am much more likely to deliberately count out rests , especially if there is no cue from the drummer . "Substitute" by The Who is a song that immidiately comes to mind where I would do that .
This. Ish.
  9.
In 30 years I don't think I've ever tripped over my own lead
In 40 years plus, I've never NOT trodden on a cable, or had someone do it for me. So, seven years ago, maybe eight even, I got a Samson Airline system. It happens to be a fixed frequency outside the need for a licence (pure luck), and is good for all the reasons stated. A single AAA battery powers the bug for around 3 gigs. Receiver in a Boss Bcb30 with tuner and octaver. It accepts power from the same psu as the pedals, so remains set up permanently. Cable from there to amp. I'd be really unhappy to go back to cable.
  10.
I have Thomastik TI JF324s on my CIJ mustang. It sounds more like my precisons than any of my other no P-pickuped basses probably due to the split pickup. Lots of punch, maybe slightly darker in its tone than my 1990 MIJ precision with JF344s. If you like light low tension flexible flatwounds that feel and sound wonderful, JF324s are ideal for the mustang.
+ 1 Got 'em on my Pawn Shop Mustang.
  11. Identically to the MIA, I would think. Why would it be different?
  12.
I had a plexiglass precision...was about 14lbs.
I have it now. It's still about 14lbs!
  13. Anything can break. I've had a few minor issues and one major with Herc stands, and they've always been sorted immediately, in or out of warranty. I wouldn't use anything else. At no time did any issue threaten my instruments. As good as it gets.
  14. A Django Rheinhart cd I found when I moved into this house a couple of weeks ago.
  15.
worth pointing out to folk who don't know but this is less relevant if playing an active bass...
It's one of the reasons active instruments were invented.
  16.
Any of those manky funguswood bookmatched occasional table basses are dorky. All of em. They look so disgustingly musicianly. That's why most of em are used for jazz and jazz fusion and sh*t like that. THE BELLS! THE BELLS! Singlecuts. Quasimodo dorkfest.
Yup, this.
  17. Well, I always thought that my basses had a medium action at best. Turns out it's really quite low. As I use flats, I don't mind a bit of clank from the frets, so digging in isn't too big a deal. And they're lovely and easy to noodle on. I would find it unpleasant if the action was too much higher, but it's what you get used to, I suppose. Certainly surprised our Beedster when he got my Frankenjazz. He mentioned the action wasn't right for him when he got it, and my immediate thought was that it was too high. But in fact, it was much, much too low for his playing style. Not a problem to correct, of course!
  18.
"Can I have a go on your bass?" Only if I can have a go on your woman.
Must try that. Woman-dependent, natch...
  19.
Never, mainly because I know those who've asked haven't got the cash to either repair or replace it if they bust it...and as I've had gear broken in the past and not even had a sorry let alone had it fixed or replaced I'm a very untrusting soul now.
This.
  20.
I very rarely use a pick for the sole reason I'm sh*t f***ing useless when I do. It all goes disastrously wrong when I use a pick for some reason.
This. And having not done it for the better part of half a century, it causes me physical pain!
  21. As said, this applies to Markbass stuff too. My combo has the exact same handle and the exact same problem.
  22. It's my thinking that all such equipment should live indoors. I've yet to see a garage I'd be happy to store any electronic gear in, including speakers.
  23.
You can get Marshall VBC412 pretty cheap used 4ohms and fekking loud too. It's a great cab for rock & metal. Still my favourite cab in the universe. It's 110lb though....
110lb! That would see me off! Too used to the lightweight stuff now.
