1. I've had my Super 15 for a few months now. What can I say? It's LOUD! It sounds lovely! The whole 500W rig weighs 59lb! I always wanted a 2x15, and now I have a good one that I can carry with impunity, bad back and all! All hail Alex Claber and all who sail in him!
2.
The rig-less approach is probably fine if you are playing in a larger venue through a PA with decent stage monitors and you trust the sound engineer, or you are in a pro band playing with high quality in ear monitors or whatnot, but if you are playing down the old Cock and Pullet then you probably won't have such luxuries at your disposal... I use some amp modelling and quite a lot of effects through my markbass/barefaced big one setup - its an exceptionally clean amp/cab combo so most of my 'tone' comes from the bass/effects etc, but ultimately I like to be able to control my onstage level and tweak the tone accordingly. Its also a ridiculously lightweight rig so moving it is a doddle tbh. Also I don't generally lend my gear out. Its not a problem for what I do, although in principle I agree with you.
Basically, this, although I don't use any effects or modelling. Pub gigs need backline. Simples.
3. Yup, that's an answer I'd like to hear!
4. Used in anger for the first time, going through the CMD121H at an audition for a new band. Sounded great, no feedback issues at that volume, and impressed the hell out of me, and the other band members seemed to like it too. I got the gig!
5. Ahhhhh, , nothing like a healthy dose of grammar and spelling pedantry to get the juices flowing!
6.
The actual bassline is very simple but if you don't have 3 electric guitarists and a piano player in your band it can sound just a bit empty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZOozDHL0LA
Yes, quite a challenge to fill it out in a 3-piece!
7.
Bored of talking about = Fenders. At least every squier I've played has been on par with every bass ever, should have saved all that money wasted and brought a lord.
Bored WITH. That is all.
8.
Not much of my original squier left. Neck swapped out for a mighty mite, wilkinson tuners, CTS pots and new wiring, orange drop cap, Bass Doc pic guard and Wizard Thumper. Was it worth the spend.....absolutely.
Precisely what I did with the Affinity P J I bought. Is now my #1 bass.
9. Welcome, from sunny (ha!) Tavistock!
10.
Mmmmm - yawn from a man with 4 Fenders and a Warwick? Interesting.
In what way? I just find it a boring looking bass.
11. Just watched the recording from last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it, along with, oh, 100,000 others in the audience! C'mon, how many of the dislikes are real? Wouldn't you like to be doing that at 70? If not, why are you playing at all? If they were truly no good at all, you wouldn't have just watched them - because they would never have made it there! Good on 'em!
12. I like this! And i have done the same, although I've ended up with two basses.
13. What's that they're wanting to charge €549 for?
14. Yup, I'm for this, too. Always end up playing a Precision...
15. In this case, there was, for a time, a distinct Hot Rod Precision, so the generic US term for souping something up was used officially. And it sounds so much better than just 'P-J', because that might not be a Precision at all! Also: I swapped the necks over as mentioned above. They both still sing beautifully. So the Hot Rod is now a P-Bass Special!
16. Used mine exclusively on gigs since I built it. Will swap the Jazz neck on at some point and see if it still sings. If so, that will accomplish two things. 1) it will definitely be my no 1 bass, and 2) putting the MIM P neck in the other will return it to being a near factory standard bass, as bought for me by my wife!
17. Showbiz Kids - vest of Steely Dan. The standard sound system in the new (to me) car is epic, so I can really let it rip!
18. When our Laguna II decided to blow up its engine, we needed a new car quickly. We also decided that more space was needed for camping. Merc E320 CDI estate. I can fit BF Super 15, LMIII, stands, cable and bits cases, power extensions, and two hard-cased basses in the boot, without any rear mirror obstruction. With the seats down, capacity appears endless. Downside: relatively thirsty, but still over 40 mpg on any sort of run. Tax isn't cheap. Certainly made more sense than a Harley! Also, a bit of a target in the wrong neighbourhood.
19. The answer to which is no, they'll fit just fine. Same size A, which is small at 0.070, probably need to tweak the truss rod a little to stop that from buzzing. I feel a new acoustic band coming on!
20.
Did a gig with John Etheridge last night. Not come down yet.
Whew! On the more prosaic side, two gigs this weekend. First was a 40th Birthday party, semi-private in the guitarist's local. Great night, many friends in, always nice to have 100% support! Last night we were in Torpoint, at the Wheelers. A large, long room. Although it all went well, the audience tended to be well back along the room, not sure why. The DJ had the house disco system waaaaay louder than we were capable of being! Earplugs essential at ALL times!
21.
Yawn. soz but...zzzzzzzzzz
+1...
22. That's as much the aim as anything!
23. I used to have a 2001 Streamer Standard 5, but the neck was just too big for my little hands! I'll confess to some apprehension about the Alien, but it has a lovely neck.
