What's better than a leopardskin print?
Silvia Bluejay replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
Well, it's either that photo (apologies for the quality, crappy cheap mobile photo) or The Zodiac Shot below, in which drummer Dave manages to rock both the leopard print and the classic car vibe. -
The SBMM branding was launched in 2008. Like you I prefer 19mm spacing but somehow I'm all over the neck on my Ray35 without as much as a thought.

When I bought my BBPH I bought a used EHX Bass Clone cheap. It gets close enough to Hooky's sound but just as a chorus pedal I really like the crossover function where you can set the frequency that the effect starts, so have a really hard chorusy top end but leave the low end relatively clean, keeps it from getting too muddy. Good to see you're a fellow JD nerd. I've got all sorts of Hooky related/inspired bass stuff. I got a him to sign my BBPH and Eastwood Hooky Pro a couple of years ago.

I think it was a Fuchs pre amp, was all valve and pretty expensive new.

Hello, I'm parting ways with my beloved JV Jazz from 1983. Light as a feather weighing only 3.7 kg's. Sounds exactly like a 60's Jazz without breaking the bank. It being an over 40 year old bass, has had its scratches which don't impact the sound whatsoever. Action can go really low and the truss rod works perfectly. It's all original (i have the original knobs and strap buttons) It comes with brand new Hipshot tuners. The perfect alternative for a vintage Fender. Very comfortable to play. Let me know if you need more info or pictures. Pickup in NW10 London. Cheers

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
Leonard Smalls replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
We had no guitarist for today's rehearsal. However, I'd bought myself a cheap'n'cheerful Squier Toronnado having had to give back the borrowed Strat. So I played guitar, which I've never done with anyone else! I just played my over-complicated bass lines, while our other bass player did his thing and I got to do extra widdling which was nice. And it went surprisingly well - guitar playing is dead easy compared to bass... 😁 -

Two very handsome basses there. I noticed the other day that EBMM are offering Transparent Red as a new colour option in the Custom Design Experience website.

@tauzero bought a Telescope from me recently, smooth and easy transaction. Payment made quickly, item delivered in tact, job done! Would happily deal with again. 👍

I have a couple but they're pretty high gain. One is a Mesa V Twin which actually doesn't filter the bass like more Marshall-type circuits. What did your friend use? I actually bought a Timmy to see if it really is transparent. We'll find out.
-
I don’t think they were a thing back in 2016, but yeah, their price make it a little more compelling. I am looking for a backup 5er for my Lakkie, probably either a Sterling SR5 or a Sire P5R/P7. I do prefer 19” spacing, but whatever really. Si

As well as age related hearing loss, after 55 years of playing in bands I now suffer quite bad tinnitus. In order to protect what's left of my hearing, for the last 2 years I've had to resort to IEMs. There were a few things that I had to overcome: 1. It took me quite some time to get used to performing at a vastly reduced monitoring level - it was initially difficult to "rock out" at transistor radio volume levels. Took about 12 months to properly get used to it. 2. I had issues with the moulds for my IEMs. I had to have my ears moulds taken 3 times before they had a good fit. Insist on "Open jaw" moulds! 3. As you're using amp and speakers on stage, you'll need someone who can tell you if you're playing too loud, or not loud enough. You won't have a clue how loud your amp/speakers are. 4. If your bass is DI into your IEMs via a monitor mixer, your amp EQ won't affect what you hear. I found a significant mid boost really helped with the definition and being able to hear exactly what I was playing. You'll need to sweep through the frequencies to find exactly where, and how much, to boost for your needs. 5. As my band still use full backline, and I'm the only one using IEMs, there is still a significant onstage volume - this means I have no need for guitars, vox, keys in my IEMs, just a good mix of drums and bass. PS. I should've gone the IEMs route many years ago🙄

Did you use two of them ?
